I just read a forum on Reddit in which Rogean himself answered a post. The title of the string is "Project 1999 New Server" on Reddit.
Guys were inquiring if P99 blue will add a new blue server. Since the guys were complaining about the saturation of level 60 toons , plat and gear on the current P99 blue.
Rogean answered with his post saying that in the near future , it does look like a new P99 blue server will be created.
Guys were looking for a fresh start. And I think Rogean is listening.
It could turn out to be a good thing.
If you google "Reddit Project 1999 New Server", you will see the string posted in regards.
I guess like anything else in life , there are pros and cons to it.
But it is nice to get in on the ground floor of a server.

I might be one of the few people if he only person to even say this but I would welcome a system where gear can be worn out to destruction and creation of a method of gear decaying or outright being removed from long time servers. UO originally had it and I loved the idea of it. P1999 is great and all but they should take what people love about the old school system and add something original or work on the flaws that saturation levels bring to the game. Heck even UO had skill decay at first.. I would welcome level decay to help stomp that curve if you do not play your character ever so often..

WOW had a system where your gear decayed from what I recall. You had to pay gold to repair your armor. The more damage you took and long fights , meant you had to pay more to fix your damaged armor.
And the higher your level on WOW, the more expensive it was to fix your armor.
In the end , it turned out to be just a "gold sink".
I guess P99 has been out a long time and it remains stuck in it's era.
So players who want variety just keep creating alts.
I'm surprised Project 2002 didn't become more popular.
It's 3-box max. So even though boxing is permitted. You can't box an army.
The server is only 1 year old. It's the old TAKP server.
Anyone who plays it only has good things to say.
But I liked that P99 had more of the old school community on it. So I favor P99.
But P2002 might not be a bad place to visit.
But there is zero RMT market for the server.
So if anyone is into RMT , you can have a monopoly on the
Project 2002 black market.
I just don't have enough RL time to do that.

Looks rather interesting. Would be awesome to get a version of KA working on it.

Hmm. Well if a intuitive system could ever be created with gear rot and level skill decay it could stomp the curb of max level saturation. Or even a way to delevel for a type of bonus to keep mid level content relevant.

Anything new like that armor decay would never be implemented to p99 even though it's a really good idea.

Rogean has talked about it in the past but never set any dates. He said there would eventually be a new PvE server called p99 Green. blue staying exactly as it is. Green would follow normal progression and content unlocks just like it happened on live. Once green gets to the point of Max level saturation (2 years after full velious unlock prob) green would get merged into blue and a new fresh green would start again.

This was his recycled server idea. Keep making a new "green" server and keep merging it into the existing blue server.

It's a good idea but it just takes p99 staff a long time to pull this kind of stuff off(understandably)

Daybreak signed a deal with them saying they are never allowed to make a real progression server and can't pass velious when they officially recognized them as a private EQ server. This was one of daybreaks very first actions upon taking over the company, forcing them to sign a deal that they can never go past velious and never make a "real" TLP.

I am sure google still has a few sources for this, if I am not so lazy later I will dig around to see what I can find

Isn't the original Ultima Online game still running?
If it is ....I am sure the worst case scenario , is that Daybreak will merge servers more and more, as players leave.
But at some point in the future, there will still be at least 1 to 3 EQ servers existing.
Just like WOW....I recall back in the day, how Blizzard bragged about the tremendous amount of subscribers it had.
I am not sure what percentage it dropped to currently.
Is WOW about 60 percent lower than 10 years ago?
I guess EQ is 75 percent lower in subscriptions than 10 years ago.
I recall back in 1999-2000....Verrant would post the exact number of players that were logged in to a server.
I heard they stopped it once the subscribers became fewer and the Admins had to hide the truth. That EQ was dying.

They apparently expect EQ to last a long time with all the backend updates they're doing this year.

I believe they realize EQN wasn't going to cut it and started to merge those "Next Updates" into Original EQ.

Besides, they have a business model that is insanely reproducible. Cycling TLP Servers. And if you look at alot of New MMOs and games in general, they are going towards a world reset kind of deal. Think Seasons and Leagues in Diablo, Path of Exile, etc.

Daybreak is laying the foundation to allow EQ to live forever. Turbo TLP, HardCore TLP, Racing TLP, etc

oh oh oh I got it, level 1 TLP! No matter what you do, you are stuck level 1! GO!
