Multiboxing on Multi PC's - sharing files over network?

Hey guys,

I am running into an issue with my current setup, my wife and I both play and both use the tools and every thing works great except for one issue which is cross system buffing. We are seeing the same thing with the CTWN plugins and with Kiss.

I have tried running mq off of a network share on a SSD drive and it seems to show the same behavior. Which makes no sense to me as I see on the share that buff.ini files are getting updated from both PCs. If I remove a buff on PC1 all the PC1 buffer will replace it, but if I remove that same buff on PC2, the PC1 buffer does squat. This is within a group, so not trying to do any xtar stuff.

I can't be the only person who runs on multiple systems, how are other people handling this? I have seen people talking about running it off of a google drive, but that has to be worse than a network share?

Are you saying you want buffs from one computer to the next or not wanting them to communicate between computers?

I want them to buff across computers. They communicate fine. I can dannet across them to nav and all the other good stuff. It is just the buffing portion that is causing issues.

for cwtn plugins, this is not possible at this time. we specifically talk about this in all of the plugins. if you're trying to share buff files you're going to run into issues as well. 0/10 wouldn't recommend

You could try running KA from a network share. That would create the KA buffs file in the share, so it can track. I can't comment on CWTN/Sic plugins in that regard, sorry. My plugins are dumber than theirs, and don't do much buff tracking (yet). I am planning on writing some buff sharing code, but that's far down the todo list...

I have a 6 box on a network with a router based USB network thumb drive. I set it up that I use a single eqclient and a UI_master that is saved on the Z drive. The "trick" is to use symbolic hard links rather than the more common shortcut link. Use the command line MkLink in the admin mode to make 3 symbolic link files on each computer that point to actual file on the Z drive. So, if I edit the UI file on Computer A, I am actually modifying the file on the Network Z drive, and if I click on CompuerF file it pulls up the file on the Z drive. AFAIK these sym link are almost completely transparent to programs. Not sure if it will help but a hard link to an entire directory is possible.

Thanks for the reply folks,

DG_EQ, the symlink idea is interesting, but not sure how much of a difference it would make compared to running it off a mapped network share.

But it does raise a question in my mind of why this does not work? The plugins are writing out to the ini files, both the CTWN plugins and the CTWNBuff plugin for those on kiss, or no macro. And I am assuming that it is reading those files as well? So what is the issue with multiple pc's hitting a share? Is it a file lock issue with multiple MQ processes, issues with latency, race conditions? Just curious to the limitation that it is hitting.

Which raises another question for me, how many people are hitting this issue, or am I one of the few that are running into this challenge? Are the majority of people running single systems now, or are there still holdouts running multi PC systems?

Long term buffs aren't that bad, it is easy to either manually buff them or click them off on the local comp. The bigger issue, which is still not the end of the world, is the lack of short term buffs. I currently don't get sloth or reptile on my tank with this setup, and I hate having a reptile disfunction.

I am working on my 3 pc set up. As long as your in a group. the toons will buffs anyone in the group. toon on box 3 buffs box 1 and box 2 toons. Just have to have the group watch or whatever it is on.
