Problem - MQ2Nav Mesh Generator wont save meshes

The mesh Generator asks to select the EQ and MQ2 folder each time the program is started. Once i select the correct folders, and then generate and save some meshes, i /nav reload in game and no meshes are loaded. So i i start the generator again and it asks to pick the folders again. I am picking C:/user/public/daybreakgamecompany/installedgames/Everquest and then c:/programfilesx86/MQ2/Release

I had this working fine for like 6 months but recently i had to wipe to factory due to the April win 10 creator update black screening this laptop. MQ2nav and the mesh generator work fine on my main PC. I followed the instructions in the mq2nav forums and even made sure i had the most up to date Directx 10 installed.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do a file search for your mesh file. Mine were saving in a MQ2/Release/MQ2Nav/MQ2Nav at one point and I had to copy them back to the /MQ2Nav folder so the plugin could find them. I was getting the same none found error and had to search to figure out where they'd wound up.

It seems that mesh generator is not saving them. I am unable to locate any mesh files after doing the following,

Starting mesh generator, Selecting the EQ folder and then the mq2/release folder(again b/c it requests this step every time i run the mesh gen program), open Ak`anon, build mesh, save, open befallen, build mesh, save.

Then when i go back to ak`anon in mesh generator, it has no mesh and wants me to build it again.

In my mq2/release/MQ2Nav the only files are like butcher_doors.json. There are 18 of them, all *_doors.json files.

Can you do Windows Explorer or other file search for *.navmesh to see if it is saving them somewhere else on the c drive? I copied an install of MQ2 once and it refused to save them in the correct folder, so I had to remember to copy them over when I made I new one.

If the "save" itself isn't writing them anywhere on the drive, I'm not sure how to fix that.

I tired a *.navmesh file search on my c:/ and d:/ drives. Returned no found files on either drive. Thanks for the suggestions though, i appreciate it.

I was able to solve the problem. Ever since i did a factory rest on this laptop, it has been asking for admin control almost everytime i try to copy/paste or move files or almost do anything. Also i remembered that it would never let me extract files to the c:/programfilesx86 folder. So i move the MQ2 folder out of the /programfilesx86 and just onto the root of c:/, and now the meshes will save.

Thanks for the help. when you asked me about where it is saving the files to and i was unable to find anything it clicked that windows was preventing it saving the files in the /programfilesx86 folder.

yeah if you give the programfilesx86 permissions it would save ok, but moving it to the root will stop you from needing to run things as admin

I suspect the "spaces" in the name "Program Files (x86)" were the source of your problem. Almost 40 years in and we still have to deal with Bill Gate's design considerations for DOS.

Admin is certainly the issue. Apologies that my guide failed to mention that in some cases running as admin is required in order to save the files or your settings for where to store said files.

To avoid needing to set admin every time you run the program you should be able to Right click the Meshgenerator.exe and select properties. Then click on the "Compatability" tab. Located near the bottom of this tab is an optional tick box you can select which says "Run this program as an administrator" Tick that box. Punch the Apply button, hit the ok button.

Once you've done that you won't have to remember to "right click and run as admin"

Also, while we're on the topic of Mesh generation. You can visit the post in the public knowledge forum where you can access nearly 2 gigs of NavMesh's that I've already created, including their object files. It's stored on my dropbox and thus it updates as often as I create new meshes making them become immediately available to everyone else.
