Question - Monk or Zerker long haul

Last thread on this was in 2020, didn't want the resurrect comment about dead chats haha. So, I have had a zerk for a long time, with the new monks it seems dps is close and back and forth. My question is do we see Monk dps falling back to the stagnation it was before or should I keep the zerker as main melee ( which I have for years )?

no one knows - dbg makes changes, the "cool thing" changes.

zerkers are not slacking, so if you're happy, be happy. plenty of other things to focus on if you're really worried about squeezing the very last ounce out of your toons - Heroics (not type 5's), Luck, etc

Murphy’s Law. The one you pick will start to stagnate!

My monk crushes it on the long parses. My berserker melts things in a burn. Like mentioned above, my pure dps group as both.

Together you get the best of both worlds with some nice ae damage too….

Choose the one that most fits your play style. Because that is where you will get the most enjoyment. If they don't live up to your expectations then roll the other one. But there's a reason why so many people tell you to choose the one YOU like. Because that's always the best first option..

both the mnk synergy is strong and stacks with the zerk one. they are both good. my favorite melee set up is tank shm brd mnk ber bst

If you truly have to choose, it depends on your priority of secondary factors.

- In favor of monk: Better survivability and ability to pull with FD
- In favor of Berserker: Less likely to be nerfed as DPS is all they have

But what it really sounds like is you want someone to say what you want to hear, and you've secretly already want one thing or another. So I'll help you along. My vote is monk. Better survivability, go where you want. In a melee group, you'd want both, but if you have to choose only one, I'd go monk. Unlike a bard puller, they aren't so squishy, and unlike a berserker, they are wanted in groups for pulling plus their DPS, so you are more likely to get a group, if that matters to you.

As a solo boxer who never raids and rarely does missions I like the Zerkers better for now but next expansion it might change you never know. Zerkers melt the named and have good dps for the short time the mobs I kill are alive. Each expansion I level a caster group and a melee group. I have 2 monks and 3 rogues and 2 zerkers to go with my sk tank and bard for adps. I have a shammy and a cleric I toggle also. Caster group has 3 wizards or 3 mages or any combo of the bunch. Yes I have 3 beastlords also. As you can tell I am kinda like you I was always torn on which and ended up never making up my mind so I leveled all of them and whatever mood I am in I choose a mixture of any one of the bunch. If you can't do what I do cause you have a life you almost have to flip a coin. I am super lazy so I get annoyed buying axes because I can spend months never going to pok or guild hall I just log in group find a lonely camp and slaughter. The monk is awesome too and not much to buy and good sustained dps. I think it comes down to play style. I pull and tank with sk so monk pulling isn't needed for me and my bard is the same. He just sings rock songs and casually hits the mobs and a occasional mez( I use all of Chats plugs for these by the way) only manual on sk. I have one ranger also and dps is great but mana usage sucks right now for them and I don't take mana breaks lol. Whatever one you choose you will always think maybe I should have chose the other. It never fails.

I use Rog, Monk, Zerk in my group for dps. And btw Rog DPS beats monk dps every time on sustained over hours. I have all three because the synergy. Zerk is a little behind on sustained right now but they explode when they burn, so I set the zerk to go nuclear on named and if you look at named fights alone they are two to 3 times the dps there. I like to get rid of the named fast. So yes the answer is both, but only after a rog! The main thing with rog is not to have a burn, you use everything all the time, they are very different than the other classes that way, you save nothing. On mob to mob parses they might look like they are less than say a monk or zerk because the other two are popping a disc, but look at the 2 to 12 hour parse and they are always on top (all other things being equal, gear, aa, trophy etc).

you can get zerker alliance to fire with 2 zerks pretty reliably too, whereas the number of times i have 2 + monks in the raids I do, is zero. that said ranger auspice is also worth considering when assessing group and/or multi group composition

You almost got me there but I see your trick question for what it is now.

Rogue, rogue is the answer! :)

He obviously secretly wants to run an all melee DPS group of Monk, Berserker, Rogue, BL, Ranger, Shaman with the Shaman pet tanking. People deny it all coyly, but give in to the meta.

next expansion bumps group max to 8 so we can all super meta with those 6 + bard and sk! do it dpg you cowards!

I don't like DoT classes much because they're kinda useless until you fight a named. Same goes for the serker imo. I know it averages out blah blah blah, but I much prefer the higher sustain to the higher burn, always have. I also don't use a sham in a melee group, but a cleric instead. DPS in the group game has been trivial for well over a decade at this point and doesn't appear like they're going to fix that anytime soon. My group isn't raid geared either and is a mixed group to boot, casters and melee, in addition I don't grind missions for augs because I don't need them. I get the achievement and call it a day. Just use whatever you tend to use the most and call done. Raiding is where max/min even matters. Group game is trivial even for group geared toons these days and that's part of the problem with modern EQ.

In short, the group make-up doesn't matter at all these days. I've been toying for months now with the idea of a bard with 5 tanks. It would do just fine given the huge boost tanks have received with DPS. dual-wield warrior for tanking, toss in a pally and and sk plus 2 more warriors all 2 handing it and that's the definition of sustain. Modern EQ is so very broken due to bad decisions by the current crop of devs and their program manager.

In the end, with the automation, I find I fall behind the DPS curve if I try to button mash instead of letting an automation do it for me. RGLua-mercs, Kissassist, and the CWTN plugins. I was sad when I confirmed/realized the Monk CWTN plugin did so much more DPS then I did mashing buttons. But then I was happy. And then I worry when the ban stick comes out. Then I said screw it, it increases my enjoyment of the EQ game. I'll be sad the day I loose the Krono I've managed to buy, ya.

So, as stated by lost above. The monk DPS the past couple expansions has increased due to monk weapons getting buffed. Zerker is always a good option. I dropped the zerker to add my monk back into the group. Monk, Rogue, BL as the DPS. I kill level specific content, named, missions, etc. Play what makes you happy. If you have a secret deep desire you don't want to share. Don't. Go to Test Server and try it out. SIC and CWTN make it so you can test the plugins for free on the Test server. Enjoy what you play.

tank group with warrior sk pally , bard, bst, shaman will still be pretty disappointing, heck even 3 SKs, with the bard, bst, shaman backcourt, rolling SK alliance, and synchronized epics would be a huge amount of fun
