Question - Melee Distance and Tank Running Through its Target

I'm a relatively novice Kiss Assist user. I play 3 accounts, each with a Merc. I like to manually pull with my paladin and I generally keep MQ2melee off. I keep it off because sometimes if I am out pulling, it will act goofy like stick to a mob or turn me around and I have trouble lining back up to bring the mob(s) back to camp and I have to walk backwards all the way back to camp.

Once in camp I usually let KA just run and it turns melee on, casts spells just fine. However, often times when I get back to camp, when the mob gets close, the paladin will cast and then run to engage - and just run right through the mob. Then stop with his back to the mob, cast again. And then sometimes, turn and run right through the mob again. This can happen a couple times before he stands still and melee's.

Is there something simple in KA that I can adjust / add to keep that from happening. Essentially, engage the mob when it comes to camp, but just not navigate right through it?

I also have a tough time dealing with named's when they enrage. I don't know if there is anything simple in KA to turn off melee when enrage goes off but still keep casting to keep aggro? Currently I have to just end the macro when the named gets at 20%, manually take control and turn melee off and just cast/taunt/heal all by hand.

I'm on KA version 12 and its a wonderful tool. Props to those who work on it!

Thanks for any advice

First off, turn of usemq2melee and forget it ever existed, please.
Secondly for the tank you can set your meleedistance and your stickhow to be more compatible with each other.
I would suggest a meleedistance of about 45-55ish, found out what works best for you
then as a stickhow, use something like stickhow=15 moveback loose

Things I notice that I do differently,

1) I choose one or the other to set camp parameters...
CampRadius=0
CampRadiusExceed=400
I find this setting forces the tank to RESET before he buffs or does anything else he should be doing before the pull, but I find that often this one causes running to/from a mob spammingly speaking...
or vice versa (the CAMP should be 1 larger than your PULLER's maxradius IMHO... that said, I usually prefer
CampRadius=400
CampRadiusExceed=0
has always seemed to do me better in terms of camps and pulling all the mobs properly without the spamming to/from *shrug*... I could be wrong here, I only use KissAssist Vanilla... nothing extra, so I've done A LOT of tweaking to come up with the correct settings in my INIs

2) I use 100 assist on PullerTank, not sure what you're pulling with and tanking with, if they're separate... you said Paladin...
AssistAt=100
MeleeOn=1
FaceMobOn=1
MeleeDistance=75 (is OK, I run 100 while also doing this on the rest of my toons... it doesnt mean that he will necessarily engage @ 100 everytime, but gives him AMPLE room to go to the next mob that might've aggro'd while fighting the initial pull mob... also for the NPCs that have TALLER graphic hitboxes (i.e. Rumble elementals in UP)
StickHow=snaproll (I actually prefer this one)

As for the paladin casting, I try to put all the casts I need regularly in the DPS rotation so he "engages" first, then goes through spells, INCLUDING his Splash Cure|100|Once... that way he doesn't cast too much and hurries up and engages/threats target(s)

Just my two cents.

Thanks for the replies. It seems to be working much better. But, I wasn't a very good scientist about it - by isolating the variables to know which exactly fixed the problem. But I made changes from each of the above replies :). Thanks guys!

You also had a question about enrage. /bcga //backoff on a macro, then another to re-attack would also be a good work around if you still have issues with that.

in no way shapre or form should campradius be 0 or 400, camp radius does not work in kiss how you think it does.

campradius is a measure for when mq thinks your toon is near the camp loc, and then you are back at camp and it can do other stuff than trying to return to camp, if you set it at 0, it will have a very hard time hitting the camp loc, and you will get weird rubberbanding around.

400 means he thinks a radius of 400 is in his camp and he can just start doing whatever he wants.

Campradius should be at tops 35, this is good for when you run toons with bard speed, 30 is normal just leave it there normally, 20-30 if you in a smaller space inside, but usually 30 is fine.

campradiusexeed is a thing of the past really, where gms would summon you to some place and watch you beeline back to the camp, and be like yeah you using, you get a ban.

It then became useful too when mobs was gating back to spawn point and started summoning you, so you didnt run back to your camp and caused a train of death.

those two settings should generally be left alone for about 98% of content in eq, and have no bearing on when he starts rushing out to attack something.

Meleedistance is the only setting that determines when someone should start attacking if they are within their camp radius, and 100 is maybe good for giant sized wyrms and such, but is far too much for normal sized ttargets, and will make your dude rush out too far in general and its super annoying specially indoors.
pullertank
campradius=30
campradiusexceed=400
meleedistance=55

assists toons that do melee
campradius=30
campradiusexceed=400
meleedistance=75

assists toons that do primarily casting and doesnt melee
campradius=30
campradiusexceed=400
meleedistance=120

I'm not opposed to trying this out, but I have literally adjusted my settings in these regards 1000s of times and found it to work best through the INI... though I'm no "pro" per se...

I'll let you know how it goes trying your setting suggestions

p.s.-- I'm also one of those if it aint broke dont fix it HAHA, though your settings will be probably more efficient, if all you said above is the case :) ; however, the rubberbanding you're speaking to, might address that to/from i was speaking to in my post also...

He's 100% correct. If you set camp exceed to 0, KA turns off return to camp and your toons wander off in some random direction over time. Setting camp to 400 is a great way to run off to fight a mob and run face first into a group of mobs. Set up the ini in a fashion like he showed and you'll have better results. If you get really tired of your tank running out past the mob you can set campradius and melee distance to the same value, however that can cause some other issues where the tank just sits on his/her ass while the rest of the group gets bbq'd.

Well, all that said, to say mine never do either of those things :P hence my hesitation to change it... BUT... I am still going to try it out... ill save my old INI and test out those numbers :) ... I am always finding ways to refine it, so if it does a better job, you won't hear me complain HAHA!

The only thing I found appealing was the rubberband (my to/from mob spam) fix... it rarely happens, but when it does, typically it's with 0/400... so I definitely want to test out the changes for that reason for sure!

I too have experience the rubber banding thing, especially with my groups that have bard run speed on. I found turning "scatter=1" helps a bit. I also have gotten in a habit of spacing my characters away from each other when I give the /bcga //camphere on command. When they are clumped up they really get stupid trying to get back to that specific spot that someone else is standing in, or a pet is..

Oh not that rubberbanding among my group...

I meant when my PullerTank is going to pull a mob, all of a sudden he will target a mob and keep running from camp and mob, but never pulling the mob... the only ways it corrects itself then, 1. a mob in the path of the rubberbanding aggros, sending the tank back to camp or 2. i stop it and restart mq... it's very rare, i feel like it's more a mathematical issue with the PullRadius and mob placement or a glitch in the game when it does happen...

That is a strange behavior. Normally it should flag the mob as can't be pulled and return to camp to target a new mob to pull.

Isn't StickHow=snaproll going to cause some problems fir a tank? That's a melee setting for staying behind the mob no? Been a while since I used KISS.

Hasn't affected my tank at all, I like it also cause he'll roll through and face the mob, then the rest just get behind the mob from camp....

snaproll is just a type of stick that is go directly to the target, then "roll" (strafe) to the desired position. The position is not defined in that command, but either KA or moveutils (can't remember which) will determine based on class or assigned role where they need to be.

You can over-ride the position and say something like: snaproll left moveback 12

That will move to target, strafe to the left side, move back from the target if closer than 12, but try to keep range at 12. There are many other options.

A good reason to define position, like in my case is that i make my ranger stand in front of the mob, even though he would normally go behind. Since he can't stop stealing agro, and I don't want the mob spinning 180deg and ruining the rest of my DPS positions, I leave the ranger up front.
