Hi,

I was wondering if there were any guides or suggestions on how to make a strong Free to play box team without the use of any kronos ? Basically a all out bronze team with max capability for 250 AA.

Is there any INI files for a possible team like this ?

Solution
without krono *ever* ? no not really, 250 is not enough to even cover the *needed* basics

at least krono once.

You can stay FTP until you get to level 80 or so. Then it becomes very difficult. Tank classes especially need those mitigation AA.

However, if you're going to move slowly through content then you could spend many fruitful months as a FTP team.

Mage, Bst, Necro if you farm the em earrings are doable w/ mercs. What @Sic said is the truth. Best FTP team is going to be tank/enc/cler (krono at least once) then whatever flavor of dps you prefer (krono when you can)

Second, third, and fourth all the comments above and below. I held out as long as I could on my SK but by about 85 had to pop a Krono. It was like night and day.

My team just turned 90. No Krono ever. SK, Cleric, Bard, 3x Zerker. All have epic 2.0. It’s a struggle. I die a lot. I pretty much upgrade my spells and tweak my inis every 5 levels. I was struggling with a quest in Loping Planes (all Lt blue mobs) but once I go back after upgrading gear and spells I should be able to finish it. I think I’m off to fort mech next. Should be interesting. With very limited playing time im ok with the struggle. I’m in no hurry to max level. I figure I’ll hit 95 maybe before the end of the year. I could break off the leveling and start the Artisan prize quest. Stuff like that helps keep the game interesting. As long as you’re ok with being mediocre but able to play when you want, you should be fine as ftp to at least 90. If I ever reach 95 I’ll let you know!

I ran a group like this but had to make my SK gold somewhere between 90 and 95 if I recall correctly. Otherwise ran with an enchanter, cleric, beastie, mage and druid that were all bronze FTP. It wasn't efficient or easy, but I levelled up to 110 before I popped krono's on the other 5 toons.

Without a gold tank, it was eventually impossible to survive, even with two healers.

The druid was mostly useless, but I found I needed the secondary emergency healing to keep my group alive very often. I also had to grind A LOT of hot zone quests, and gribbles to get there. If I was doing it again, I might replace the druid with a shaman, although the druid binding did make doing the dailies a lot easier to do. I also used the druid evac very often when I pulled with too many adds.

Tanks need to be gold with all the right augs. However, pet classes can use a t1 earring amd shine. You'll still run into the aa wall eventually, just because well, we all know them AA's add up, and make your characters stronger. You could do a necro for a puller or chanter whichever you like.

Necro, mage, mage, mage, enchanter, cleric. You might be able to do it with a shaman also, just because the mages will be healing pets with their boons. If you find you don't need a necro, drop em and go with a wizard or another mage.

Fp2 casters are great, but likei said You'll hitawall eventually.

I hope you find the team you want!

Happy hunting!

I did this when I initially came back and started from scratch, leveled a Cleric/SK/Mage boxing the old fashioned alt tab way, worked ok till the high 60s then became so painful in the 70s, really need those AA's! I got fortunate and found my way into some Frontier mountains power leveling event and then found this site, the rest is history!

I was like so many others here with my teams - I was able to squeak out low 80s. But once I hit the House of Thule content I got utterly flattened. Even after I stepped back and fully geared my tank with droppable T1 ( fear infused) gear he still got flattened. The tank especially just has to have those AA's to survive. After that it got easier - then a bit easier each time I was able to chrono/gold the next in line. I typically go tank - heals - CC - everyone else.

I don't know if everyone is aware, but just to reiterate... the REASON you SHOULD Krono, at the very least, ONE time, is...

You can type /alt off (gives you 100% experience gains) and also CLICK the Auto-Grant Enable AA Box which grants you simultaneous 100% XP gains and FREE AAs (1000s roughly 20k or more) through level 110...

It is crazy amazing... I do not recommend using a Krono, however, until you got a strong 30 days to play and level up through 110, also do NOT use the Krono until level 50 (just before you ding 51) as the AAs don't start coming in until then...

Just my two cents.

EQ has a major power creep problem. Once AA were introduced, the game had to be balanced around that rather than stats and gear. With players at the same level stratified by AAs rather than just levels and gear, both mob floors and ceilings had to increase, so limiting your AA to the laughable floor of 250 will stop you at a wall. Eventually the mobs just have an exponential amount of HP your DPS can't chip away at in the time your tank will be smashed and/or healer will run out of mana.

Long ago, I read a good write up from a premier raiding guild on tank and healer mechanics in, likening tanking and healing to filling up a cup with holes in it. Without AA, your cup is too small to hold much water (effective HP) and the water you refill (healing) is insufficient to replace the water pouring out of the giant hole in the bottom (mob damage, missing avoidance, & mitigation from AAs) due to lacking those AAs. The wall is where you will fail because xp mobs will kill your tank before you kill them.

I am actually pretty amazed at some of the answers here for people hitting 85-90 FTP because of how hard of a wall the game threw at me in UF/HOT (80-85) where DB mobs turned my tank into paste even WITH KR because I wanted to jump straight from the last tier of defiant gear into UF/HoT T1. Even the move from TSS to SOD for quested gear, which was a step up from the defiant required much more attention than prior leveling. My tank has spent 95% of his time since 51 subscribed. After that initial hump, it was smooth sailing for my group, just capping levels with auto-granted AAs and moving on up to the next xpac.

If FTP no KR were a limitation, I would set additional limitations like capping my adventures to out leveling (70/75?) and then tackling raid mobs in POP/GoD/OoW since the mechanics of most POP raids and some GoD/OoW raids won't limit your ability to box them.

Feel free to prove me wrong, but cannot imagine the possibility of running a level-capped, strong, truly FTP group, even if you were PLed to 115/TOV. You might be able to find a combo that can kill LB/green mobs via cheese and copious time, but that doesn't fit the request of "strong."

I think the question is a little bit off target. Don't think of FTP as zero Krono. Think of a Krono as the single best upgrade you can buy for ~3M plat (live server).

Don't go spending plat on gear upgrades. Hunt for and collect those yourself. Save your platinum for Krono purchases. Of course collecting 3M is a lot easier if you have it laying around from one of your prior PTP accounts. They didn't all get banned did they?

First I recommend kronoing at least once at 105 to autogrant your AAs. From there I don’t think there are any “best” teams. Here’s what I’m running.

Caster group: SK/CLR/ENC/MAG/MAG/NEC

Melee group: SK/SHM/BRD/RNG/BZK/BZK

Hope this helps. And if you’re returning after a long hiatus, welcome back :)
