Question - Luas and maxxing spell casting

So I've been searching through the forums and I've come to realize something. I don't really understand what a Lua is. I see all of these wonderful scripts written and considering I'm pretty clueless about most computer things, I just have never used a Lua. Can someone talk to me like a kindergartener and explain what a Lua is. How do download one. How to use one etc? I'm embarrassed to ask this, but I figured I'd just bite the bullet and ask.

This mostly came about because I have started up a fresh group to power level and now that I actually want to use them, I have to practice their spells to get their spell casting higher. I have heard on these forums different ways to do this, but I never really understood and so I've always just manually done them in the past. I figured that I should actually find out how. What do you use to max your spell casting? I searched the forums and it seems like some of the ones written are now obsolete. What do you now use and how do I install it and use it? (again I won't feel offended if you talk to me like a 5 year old. I need that, lol).

Thanks again for letting me ask the dumb questions. This group is fantastic!

Hey Sippi,
Older scripts are Macros, /mac coolthing starts it, written in macro code and easy to edit and write but old now so not as good as newer code abilities. Also only one macro can run at one time as another.

newer are Plugins, written in a better code so has better ability to read EQ (generically speaking). Plugins are not editable and not as easy to write of you do not know C++, but to the average user run pretty nice and run multiples all at once even with 1 macro at the same time AND with Lua scripts with no issue. Run by enabling your pluginmanager or manual by /load

Lua scripts are written using Lua language and much newer. this added by MQ devs (not RG) and allows easy edit and easier to learn language for those wanting to learn or dabble. Nearly all new scripts are in Lua as its really nice to work with. Can run multiple Lua with plugins and 1 macro (remember only 1 at a time for those) all working well together. /Lua run coolthing will run a Lua.

On the above bar go to Resources, look at the section you want and click Watch on the Overview tab (NOT the discussion tab) to have that resource (macro/plugin/Lua) added to your RedFetch list and then auto download and install the newest versions of anything you have watched. You can manually download anything using the download button, but I recommend using RedFetch so it installs properly to your setup.

Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this. I'm going to try it. Wish me luck!
