Looking to buy a peice of Hardware

Anyone know if a game pad will work for making things easier for EQ?
What can and can't be done with a game pad.
Are there different game pads that are better to get?
Is it detectable by Sony?
Just heard it from different places, thought I would open it up and ask the guys that might know a lil bit bout a lil bit.
