been hearing a lot about it, and reading up on it today it looks pretty crazy deep. like 90+ heroes to choose from, etc...

the thing i hated about warcraft (and starcraft, or any RTS for that matter) is the whole "start with one peon" every time you play. i hate building a barracks to build a lumber mill to build a farm to build a steakknife to jam in my eyes over and over and over and over and THAT'S ENGAGING GAMEPLAY FOLKS!

i used to play WC3 with my roommates in america, but i'd be the fucker out killing creeps while obsessive compulsive billy handled the building of the town and upgrading of units.

DotA sounds much more fast paced and actual combat focused, even if your hero does start every level at 1 again and again.

i never had a valid install of WC3 though, as i'd play in some hackabilly network tunnel, avoiding battlenet completely... (kapachi? hamachi? i forget)

i see these are up for purchase and DL direct from blizz now for 20 bucks each (wc3 20 + Frozen throne 20). is 40 bucks worth it to check out DotA, or will i play it once and hate it?

:bug

Well TBH you could always torrent it, as getting the game isn't the problem. The problem is the CD-keys, and you can get plenty of those if you know where to look. Although the expansion CD Keys are a challenge.

But ya, all in all DotA is a lot of fun, especially once you get really good and you can move on to TGA or higher leagues of play, where it gets really competitve. In public games it's fun, but there's no realistic teamwork or cooperation until the league play I mentioned.

Whether it's worth 40 bucks or not is debatable, but if you can find a WC3 CD Key from someone, it's probably worth the 20 bucks for the expansion.

ah... league play... yeah... hm.

"league play" always makes me think of those guys that would wear the wrist braces and bring their own ball and shoes to the bowling alley while i was lining up to play street fighter II. old guys with mullets and big blue unidentifiable smears of "tattoo" on their upper arms, with the wife at their side... cough-laughing with oversized teeth stained with too-red lipstick as they smoked virgina slims and wore denim vests with the 'ripped off sleeves'.

league play you say?

meh.

pubs vs league play is like Wow: battlegrounds vs arena. in pubs/battlegrounds...you get random people that (usually) know what they are doing and can be fun and frustrating. league / arenas you get people you know, use strategies...its a bit tough at times, but at least you don't get total retards and rage quitters.

Also, the game Demigod is being currently made, it's a full game with a DotA style game play, looks interesting, $45 for a pre-order direct download and you get into the summer beta. I'm a bit short on money atm or I'd go buy it myself, anyone here know more about it? Looks pretty good so far.

This is very funny that you bring this up, as I have been considering reinstalling my copies of War 3 and TFT. The only problem is that they're installed on my decrepit desktop computer, and over the past six years I have lost both serials.

I tried surfing bit torrent sites to get new keygens, but none of them have worked for me yet. Can someone post a reliable crack for Warcraft? To retrieve the serial from Blizzard I need to fork up some "lost key" cash, and I'm not willing to pay for these games again.

Oh, and to answer your question Iso:

Is DotA worth forty bucks? Naw, fifteen - twenty tops. Is
the Warcraft 3 battle.net experience worth forty bucks? Your dang skippy it is.

I have spent countless hours setting up elaborate mazes on Tower Defense, and a single Heroes map can keep me furiously clicking for hours.

Very true, there are all kinds of great games on B-Net, Pimp my Peon, Vampirism, etc. that can keep you entertained for months.

back when i played it co-op on the lan with my friends, i spent a lot of time with the map editor building some ridiculous large maps that (in my humble blah blah blah) were pretty shit hot.

it sucks, because i've gone looking for them recently, and the sites that used to host the maps way back when are all defunct now.

best part was the loading screen text. i'd make these huge complicated maps that took forever to load, and would just put "hey sean, you're fucking lame" on the load screen. lol @ anyone who DLed my maps, and were like 'who the fuck is sean?!'

and maybe i'm wrong, but i think with creative use of regedit, you could get those keys off the old boxes, gaston (or just copy the whole install over and export / import those keys onto the new box)

Well idk if im understanding this correctly, but if you have them both installed on an old computer you could always use a CD-Key grabber, they float everywhere around the net on those hack and exploit sites for b.net.

That's the one i use, just click the top .exe link and run it. Basically you just have it running while WC3 is running, go in to the LAN menu, and it gives it to you.

Hope it helps :D If you play on USEast feel free to add me (Caoboi) i've been playing a lot lately.

If you want to be "cool" in your WoW raiding guild you will play massive amounts of DOTA. Otherwise no.
