Ok, so I'm returning to EQ after a long break and there's a lot new... on top of that, boxing and macros and all sorts.
I've read through a lot and have redfetch running, multi-instances up, macros in game sorted, a few "group do this" macros too.

I've loaded a few plugins for maps, etc., but I am sure there's more. I'm reading about Lua, but as a non-coder, don't really understand that. Is it some code that allows your boxed chars to sort of act like mercs (only better)? Or is that functionality also included in MacroQuest?

Sorry for the noob questions and kudos to you guys for what you've done, but it's quite overwhelming!! Lol...
The redfetch guide is amazing and it's taken me about 4 hours to sort things out, doing bit by bit and checking it all works (I'm definitely more on the play-it-safe side).

So, am I missing something important, or am I good to go?

Just a word of warning for the other noobs on the MQ find - it will literally run you there, train mobs, drown you, etc., sometimes even run past if the height is off and it took me a while to figure out how to stop! Essentially I had to Control Shift Click somewhere on the map close to the current location which made it go there instead.

Thanks community!

Welcome dude!

EQ is a big game with lots of *stuff*, by extension MQ is even more so.

it takes a while to get your footing - start with that link i shared above and then slowly ease your way into stuff.

for mq2nav - do a /nav ui to display the "MQ2Nav Tools" and then change "Break Behavior" to Stop Navigation --- imo that should be the default

There are a lot of different automations - kissassist, muleassist, xgen, modbot, trotbot, aq1bot, rgmercs, cwtn class plugins, mq2melee, and the list goes on.

many folks these days like the "out of the box" experience and easy setup that things like the cwtn plugins or rgmercs has - some folks really like the quick granular adjustability that kiss/mule allows - i recommend trying a bunch one at a time and find what works for you

LUAs are used for lots of different things and have mostly replaced old macros. They’re basically small scripts that automate actions or add extra functionality to the game.

For example, you might use a Lua for fishing, or one for travelling (e.g. “Magellan”), etc. They’re all about making repetitive or complex tasks easier (there are also LUAs to complete certain missions, which would be difficult when boxing).

One of my favourites is Rgmercs, which can control your other characters for you. It’s really handy if you want to play your main while having 5 other toons follow along and fight the same mobs. It’s also easy to get started, just type /Lua run rgmercs in game, and configure it for each of your toons.

Thanks - do I do that just on the main char, on every char, or just the non-main chars?

Lua Fishing is up there with the first time I ran CWTN pluggins. Instantly started having much more fun lol. Cheers everyone//

The link Sic sent you is a guide that should cover the very basics, recommend you give that a whirl.
To answer strictly, either, depending on your goal.

If you are playing on Live, I feel like I should make you aware of this before you get too comfortable with MQ... basically, the future of MQ on Live is a little uncertain atm.

For rgmercs, you need to do it on each character (that you want automated). Also need to set up the main assist for the group (usually the one you are playing manually), and you can also use the "chase" option to make sure they follow him (this is very handy and much better than other options).

Hello and welcome!

As you are finding, there is a LOT of prep work to MQ just like in EQ.

You have gotten some solid advice (research!)

I highly recommend holding off a few weeks with using MQ until things are set in place, Using MQ is a bannable thing, and if you value your account, don't use it for the time being. There is a chance MQ can be detected in new ways, and sweeping suspensions just occured not to long ago. I would strongly suggest NOT using MQ on any account you do not want to lose for a time.

---

Outside of that, as you are finding out there is both an overabundance of information, and and underwhelming amount of convenient information at times. I suggest you familiarize yourself with the site, as it is a good source of information. The trick is using the search function, using the "Docs", and reading through what other folks have asked and the answers. You will find you get the best sort of help when you show you have made an effort to find the answer on your own before asking the same question 50+ others have already asked and been answered.

This is not to say if X is just not making sense that you be scared to ask... sometimes things for what ever reason do not "click" and we all need help. Rather that you can often find something by simple searching on the forums (or even just asking google).

---

What exactly are you trying to get out of using MQ? Are you looking for "play enhancement"? Or are seeking to automate other toons while you "drive" one? Are you just looking to make X thing easier to do?

As an example, I am an avid boxer... but my hands just do not keep up with the pace now a days. I used "bot" macros to handle basic "point and blast" my alts while I played my main before. I have since got to the point where I am "pausing" the bot program to do quests/moving/pulling, then unpausing for fights and let the bot macro murder what ever boogityboo is in my way.

---

As Sic pointed out there is a variety of options for automating your alts/main. It depends on how much work/control you want to do, versus ease of use. RGMercs is pretty much "play right out of the box" with some options, and uses a visual UI to interact with. It how ever is pretty much playing X toon the way the programmers want to play the toon, with modification off that. If auto populates based on your toon, with very little on your part needed to get started and go. (its also as far as I know the only one written in Lua, not the "legacy" Macroquest language)

Other macros allow you to set up the toon to do specifically what you want, when you want, how you want.... but that conversely also requires you to spend time in preparation setting up an extensive INI file, and tweaking it to fit what you want, and updating it as you gain new spells/abilities/items to click. In other words, a lot of set up and input from you just to get started, and you have to maintain things to get the full use out of your toon.

---

There is also a discord channel where you can interact with folks, ask question, be answered by memes and if you are rude, collect snarky commentary.

Good luck on your journey, and my apoligies... I am an overabundance of information. Sort of like Sheldon on Big Bang Theory, with out the memory =P

Yep fully aware. The post was mainly a pleasant memory. Cheers//

Do you think there'll be some kind of official or unofficial "OK" to use?
I decided to play it safe and am just using "normal EQ" for now, but really want to get back to MQ. Even just trying it for a couple of days, I'm chomping at the bit to get back!

Mq is never "ok to use". Recent years there have been a lot of suspensions and even bans for usage. That risk profile has likely increased.

When a build is available it will be posted.

This thread should not be for further continuation of sus/bans or the current state of mq, but it was important it was brought up to you
