Question - Hunter Mode not attacking non-KOS Mobs

The setup:
I'm working on my Slayer achievement in Marus Seru, killing lots of greyhoppers and rockgrabbers.
I'm level 93, so these guys are way, way, way grey . . . . non-KOS.
I'm trying to get a quick pull method since I kill them in about 2 swings of my axe.
I setup Hunter mode with a distance of about half the zone with the intent of wandering around and whacking the nearest hopper or grabber.

The problem:
When setting pull method to arrows, I will normally not quite kill the mob, so it wanders away with about 2% health and my toon stands there waiting for the mob to come attack me . . . it never does . . . kiss hangs here waiting.
So, I decided to swap to melee as my pull method. This is the one I want to use anyway, see baddie, walk to baddie, whack baddie, kill baddie, rinse & repeat 5000 times for the achievement.

What happens is this, see baddie, walk to baddie, (baddie is still wandering away from me), walk to baddie, (baddie is still wandering away from me),walk to baddie, (baddie is still wandering away from me), . . . . you see the problem?
Every time I get to the baddie, he's still wandering so my toon thinks I'm not quite there yet and walks a little closer to him. Kiss doesn't actually start the melee until the baddie stops somewhere and it thinks I'm close enough to start melee. So I end up doing one of two things: either the baddies stops somewhere and I kill him, or kiss gives up trying to chase him after about 7 walks.

Things I've tried:
If I'm watching the toon follow, and I press the auto attack button, it kills the baddie right away. This tells me that if Kiss would engage in combat, even with the baddie walking away, my toon is actually within range to whack and kill him. Just that Kiss isn't quite close enough to start melee.

I've tried setting my /moveto dist to 1 . . .same result.
I've tried setting my /moveto dist to 100 . . same result.
I've tried setting my melee distance to 150 . . .same result.

I think it's something to do with getting on top of the baddie and getting Kiss to think I'm close enough to engage.

Any ideas? Anyone run into this before?

I had hella troubs trying to KA grey cons (ask CT). You are right to give up ranged. Pullwith melee should work a percentage of the time, but since they are grey unless you can one-shot them (spell or hammer) this is gonna be an issue. You can try to pull with a root/ensare/item-clicky/disc/AA to keep them from walking, and being grey they will never actually engage you so therefore will try to walk/run, then hope KA will wade in to melee them off.

When I did this (similar) I was using my ranger (no snare), and melee worked. Yes there were times that were exactly as you described, but I let it run over-night and woke with enough kills to be done with it.

I tried to find a spot where the greys were static, not wandering. That helped a lot. I never found a setting that eliminated the whole walking, trying to engage, walking trying to engage behavior.

I was informed that KA was never designed to address grey cons, that was outside its intended purpose.

Good Luck!!!

PullLevel=0|0 "should" disregard lvl of any kind. I haven't sniffed the code to make sure... Would be interesting to see if that was set appropriately to capture the lvl range of the grey cons if that would help. I had not tried it.

Get me debug dump. Just looking at the code I don't see anything that should keep it from attacking. It is running up to the mob and should start attacking, but need debug to see where the /combat routine is not kicking in.

Do get him that debug if you can, but a patch fix is basically to pull with anything to that would not damage the mob very much (Throw stone, debug spell, maybe even a whiny throwing dagger).
Or even if they are "somewhat kos" but won't attack because of lack difference, you could just "sit" in an area that a few spawn. They should attack you, then set a down to make you sit again if not in combat and not sitting. Just an idea.

Bumping this thread because I'm wondering if a resolution for this was ever found. I started using Hunter mode for the first time today on a brand new toon (like, single digit level brand new), and I'm experiencing exactly the phenomenon described above when trying to pullwith=melee. I'm so low level that I don't have other spell options to pull with, yet. This shit is driving me nuts.

Yea, KA and huntermode using melee to pull with works ok if the mobs are static, But wondering mobs is another issue.

OK this may help some, but I haven't tested it. Around Line 5646, in sub Pull. You will need to add the highlighted code.

Rich (BB code):
        /if (${Select[${Role},hunter,hunterpettank]} && ${MyTargetID}) {
            /if (${PullWith.Equal[Melee]} && ${Target.Moving}) {
                /moveto id ${MyTargetID} mdist 10
                /if (${Target.ID}) /face nolook

                /if (${DebugPull}) /echo \atDEBUGPULL Pull Returning hunter to camp \agLine#: ${Macro.CurLine}
                /echo ${Role}: Reached edge of ${MaxRadius} hunting radius. Trying to return to camp.

            /if (${DebugPull}) /echo \atDEBUGPULL Pull Leaving hunter combat \agLine#: ${Macro.CurLine}
            /return

Let me know how that works for you.

Would love to know for sure (haven't tested) if Hunter works with AdvPath Paths (not pulling w/melee fyi).

I wonder, if I turn off CampHere (set by puller mode), turn Chase On, and use AdvPath, that I might get the same behavior... have to test... I have one spot for my n00bs that I want to run around a lake grabbing a particular mob...

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you on this.

I tried editing kiss to include the above changes. The puller still walks up to the mob, follows it a bit, staggers stops and starts a few times, and then turns on melee, but by then the mob most of the time has moved out of melee range. It then restarts the pull procedure. If the mob is static it works great, but if it's moving pulling with melee is rough.

I'm eventually going to get a spell on my lowbies and then it'll be better, but right now its super annoying. Thanks for trying to help, though!

It's totally giving me fits... no idea why this stuff won't work. I moved from melee combat and just summoned a bunch of throwing stars with my mage to give to the puller. He'll target stuff, but he won't actually execute the throwing portion in order to pull the mob. Gah! lol These lowbies are a pain in my ass.

Here's the .ini.

That should of made your hunter stick to the mob when they got in range. then combat would of started attack. Not sure what would cause that not to work.

Using throwing items (the summoned item) and the syntax in the KISS 9.1.3. directions, the lowbie monk will target stuff appropriately, but it doesn't face the mob (requirement to throw... otherwise you get a "you can't see your target" error) and it never actually executes the throw in order to pull. I verified the items are in range and ammo slots, and the mobs he's trying to pull are not so close that they are too close to be hit with throwing items.

Also, I need to mention that I've moved away from the hunter mode because now I'm running with two toons and two mercs, so now I'm just trying to pull to a spot traditionally. I'm NOT using hunter anymore.

Are you pulling using LOS, MQ2Nav, or AdvPath? Have you tried to do a /face and see if the monk faces the mob. The pull section has plenty of /face code to get your puller to face the mob.

I'm pulling using LOS.

I ended up giving up and getting the lowbie high enough to use a spell to pull. No issues anymore. Not really a resolution, but yea.

I played around with this some today. This is way more complicated than I thought. Running kiss in hunter mode pulling with melee while mobs are moving and non agro is a little harder than I thought, but the biggest issue is the distance set when pulling. /moveto mdist 15 is to far away when trying to agro a mob with melee and the mob is walking away from you. Also if you set the mdist closer to something like 5 and then turn on attack, the mob is once again to far away. I got it to work by turn on attack while trying to creep up on the mob. 95% of the pulls were successful, but I think we need to find a better solution that what I have now.
