How to Install the Redguides Launcher in Crossover on Mac

Have you disabled Dannet in MQ.ini? If not, that will crash you (unless @Cybris has solved this already).

Mine consistently crashes. Am I missing a step?
try this use --disable-gpu as an option to get rid of the blank launcher.
Make sure that the Crosstie installs DX9 but you can cancel the EQ DX9 install.
Even though it's DX11 you still need DX9 as Daybreak is using a DX9 wrapper to do DX11 calls.
Good times.

Thanks that was it.

redguides launcher isn't displaying tho :(

I believe I have, the random name .exe is in my wine config and dxd9 is disabled.

Edit, if i switch from DXVK to D3DMetal, the launcher shows up as a black box
make sure you install .net 4.8 and Visual C++ redistrib 2015-2022 64bit for Redguides Launcher to work.

I did, and I just tried to run their Repair, same for RG. I even set the registry keys. The black box has its buttons as I can click the X in the top right and Login somewhere in the middle opens the link in my browser. IDK whats going on lol.

Using crossover 23.6

I am a bit confused about the fix for getting the toon to show in game? I can log in fine...just won't draw any of the graphics for the toons themselves.

Hello, Still having issues with Very Vanilla tab in the launcher just crashing out with a fatal error.
I followed your guide and i set the winecfg correctly as instructed and i have 4.8 .net installed and 2022 VS runtime installed. Nothing i have done has changed the outcome. Sent you a PM if you get a minute for the error log. Wish there was a way to get MQ to work without the launcher and still be able to use the class plugins that i paid for.

Solved my issue with Command " winetricks -q dotnet48 d3dcompiler_47 " and this no longer requires me to disable anything to run the launcher. Awesome video and great teaching tool as it helped me understand a lot more about linux. Been windows my whole life so it is difficult giving up all the quality of life that windows offer for the silent agreement of releasing all your person and private information to microsoft lol.

Mine consistently crashes. Am I missing a step?

1) Make new win7 x64 bottle
2) Use eq installer
3) Let EQ fail to install DX
4) Install eq and set to Test
5) close launcher, toggle on DXVK
6) open launcher (window is blank)
7) eq loads lets me connect to test
8) crashes just before char select screen
Make sure you are using the crosstie in Crossover to install EQ it installs the dependencies needed for EQ to run.
Do this by searching for Everquest under apps.

Change the option to let Crossover download the installer. It will install serval fonts, The Crossover version of Dx9, MSXML and some other stuff.

Followed the guide and get to the RG launcher up with everything fully installed. When I click Launch MQ nothing is happening.

If I tick the box to load EQBCS with MQ I then get the same error orbitz was describing above.

Anyone have any ideas?

Something I've noticed with the latest version of CrossOver (23.7.1) is that everything appears to load correctly but MQ isn't actually injected into EQ. If I run the debug console I see it detecting the processes and injecting, but AutoLogin doesn't work.

sounds like you are trying to run on test if so make sure to turn on DXVK don't use D3DMetal. Again this is only for the Test Server which is running the DX11 client. This has not been pushed to live yet.

hmm tested autologin on 23.7.1 and worked fine for me on Live and Test. Make sure you are running MQ from the same bottle you are running the EQ client. For example I have separate bottles for EQ Live and EQ Test and run MQ for Live from the live bottle and MQ for test from my Test Client Bottle.

If you switch bottles you need to stop MQ and then relaunch it from the current bottle you are using or it will not inject as it cannot see the client from another bottle.

Updated OP DX11 is on LIVE as of 1/17/2024.
You will need to select DXVK when running EQ.
Do not use D3DMetal option this will result in shaders not working.
This will not affect MQ.

Updated OP:
Make sure to use a Windows 7 bottle not a Windows 10 or Windows 11 bottle.
If your previous bottle is a Windows 10 or 11 open winecfg and change to Windows 7.
Everquest will not run with DXVK enabled under a Windows 10 or 11 bottle.
DXVK is now required due to the DX11 update to Everquest.

Hi,

I have a 2023 15" M2 MacBook Air. I followed the directions exactly, including turning on DXVK. I can play EQ fine on crossover, but the RG launcher won't open. When I double click the RG icon in crossover a black window will appear for about half a second then it disappears. The RG icon will stay in the taskbar but it doesn't do anything. Any idea what I can do? Thanks.

make sure you do the d3d9 application disable override for your custom .exe
also that you install dotnet 4.8 crosstie and the visual c++ runtime 64bit 2015-2022 crosstie.
I go over this in the video,

Yeah IDK whats wrong, everything was working fine then suddenly one day it stopped.

Big update.

The Crosstie for Everquest was updated and you no longer need DXVK enabled post DX11 patch. The drawback is it requires a new bottle and fresh install of Everquest. The MQ portion of the install is still the same.

Hmmm. sadly after todays patch with MQ loaded my game is somewhat unresponsive once you get logged in (left clicks barely work you have to hold the mouse down to make it work, but that interferes with the click and hold hotkey stuff)

Remove MQ. works fine no issues. Load MQ and it's unplayable sadly, it's hard to do stuff with a gimpy left click :(

*update* i have figured it out, kind of. But it doesn't make it any less annoying.

History lesson. So on mac I used to need to go fullscreen mode (before dx11 patch) to get my resolutions correct. When DX11 patch hit, this no longer works, it starts breaking stuff glitching video and locking the game up. So instead i switched to clicking the little maximize button which kind of full screens but without actual full screen. What it does do is allow you to quickly swap between ALL eq screens within their own little group. Which was AMAZING. i loved that change.

Well, now you can't do that. If you do that like usual, you get jacked up mouse functionality. NOW, you need to DOUBLE CLICK the top window bar on each eq instance

Now everything works click wise but you have an ugly window bar visible all the time AND no more nice fancy groups. back to command tab sigh.

I'm guessing I'm late to the party and lots has changed with DX11? I don't get an option to install any DX whether I use a local install or a crosstie for EQ. When I install either, it will error out saying EQ hasn't been installed, but if I hit skip, I can't play EQ but I can get RG launcher to start, but not MQ2.

If I install EQ fresh from crosstie without doing anything else, EQ runs fine, but then I can't get the launcher to work.

yep no problem, You are correct no need to install DX9 and the installer for EQ does not try to install dx9 the Crosstie in Crossover was updated to handle this as well.
So, use the Crosstie to install EQ and you'll be fine.

I still get an error at the end of the EQ install, and RG still isn't launching. I run it twice and add the dx9 disable to the funky.exe.

Just ignore the error at the end of the EQ install.
For the RG launcher not opening is your bottle a win 7 bottle?

hmm since you already put in the override for dx9 did you make sure to install .net 4.8 and Visual c++ 2015-2022 64-bit runtime?

Yep, followed your instructions step by step. The only thing I can think of is I'm on a Silicone Mac, did you do this on an intel? I was assuming you were on silicon, otherwise you would have just done bootcamp.

Nope, M1 MacBook Pro.
Make sure the dx9 override was for the RG launcher funky.exe not the MQ funky.exe

It's for the one in the RedGuides/Desktop folder. I assume that's the launcher one. Since I haven't gotten the window up to actually install MQ, I don't think I have an MQ funky.exe yet.

Just found the log file if this helps:

It doesn't give me a window with a button to click though.

ahh looks like maybe it bugged out or something when you were supposed to click the login button on the launcher to connect your RG forum account to the launcher.

I would delete the folder the launcher is in and reinstall RG launcher.

The launcher never comes up at all for me to click anything. I run it once and it gives me the little box about migrating settings, then when I run it the second time, it never gives me a window. When I get home I'll do a screen record

I figured out one of the issues. Your instructions say to add "dxd9" but further in the thread you mentioned "d3d9". That made the difference
