Question - How do you handle following?

How do you guys handle following? I am trying out a team that has a SK/CLE/ENC/BST/BERx2. The SK is not running anything, the CLE and ENC are running Kissassist. The BST is running IHC and the Berzerkers are running MQ2Berzerker (all are level 75). Originally, I was just using the in game follow commands: /fol to start following and left move to break follow, but when I added the BST running IHC, the movement key no longer broke follow. So, I decided to try and use 'chase on' with the toons running kiss and IHC and chase mode on the Berserkers. I have had issues with this in several places: the following toons stop moving and will NOT go past a certain point. One spot I remember was in a tunnel in the Buried Sea expansion zone of Zhisza, the Shissar Sanctuary. The CLE and BST moved past the spot without issues, but the other 3 would not pass that point unless I moved them manually. The last thing I tried was using /afol on and /afol off. This seems to be working the best, but I did have a situation where my Berzerkers starting running into a corner and could not stop them. I ended up having to /q them and restart (reloading did not give me control back either).

So, any advice on how to handle following? What do you guys do?

Chase is probably your best bet. When they get stuck you can hit your come to me button. If a particular area is giving you issues, you can always edit the nav mash for the zone.

Also, under the nav ui there are some settings like pause nav with movement key that might be helpful if turned on.

When I want to relocate my group and I don't expect any complications along the way I use a hotkey that handles macroed toons as well as my plugin classes.

from the character I'm driving manually
Line 1: /noparse /bcaa //multiline ; /docommand /${Berzerker.Command} mode 0; /mqp on
Line 2: /bcaa //stick id ${Me.ID}

the ${Berzerker.Command} option was added to MQ2BerZerker to allow me to issue one command to any character running my class plugins to change a shared setting such as mode, assistat, etc. The other classes using my class plugins would also need MQ2Berzerker loaded for this to work on them. You have to use /noparse to tell the eqbc not to parse the information from the sending, but instead parse it on the receiver.

then we tell everyone to pause their macro with /mqp on, which explicitly says to turn the pause on, instead of using it as a toggle.

finally, we go to a new line and tell everyone to stick to the character that issued the command.

Optionally on line 3 you could add telling a specific character to fire a group invis, with an /bcaa //alt act 1812 where 1812 is the AA ID that you want to fire.

MQ2BerZerker chase mode uses Nav only. If there is a break in the mesh somewhere, and the characters can't find a path then they will stop because they don't know what path to take to follow the MA. So sometimes it's nessesary when traveling to use a different method like the one I mentioned. An example of when this might happen is for any sharp drop-off like at the entrance to droga when you first walk in to the right there is a sharp dropoff that MQ2Nav doesn't know how to handle unless you create an off-mesh link that tells them they can go one way to travel down into the pit. So you could either handle the navmesh updates manually for each area you encounter that requires some attention, or you can just tell them to stick to the MA instead of using nav.

I hope this helps.

How does one go about editing the nav mesh?

@ChatWithThisName: So you put your Berserkers in manual mode, pause Kiss and then use stick to do the following. How do you stop them from sticking?

much the same way I start following, but I basically reverse the process.

Line 1: /noparse /bcaa //multiline ; /docommand /${Berzerker.Command} mode 1; /mqp off; /stick end; /camphere on

I use /afollow on and /afollow off. Work that into a social however you like. I also use /mqp on to pause macros whenever I move the group. I prefer afollow over stick because afollow records a path and plays it back to the following chars, vs stick that just makes them run to the leader in a straight line ignoring possible obstacles between the characters.

Honestly, I have really bad internet where I live, but I have decent computers. If I'm fighting to somewhere, I use the follow + chase. If I'm moving to a place, I pause my kisses and leave them, run the rest with chase, and then find (advpath) my kisses to me. Zone to zone - I advpath each individually.

I only use the follow me button under the group window, and if anyone get stuck I press come to me and then I press the follow me again. Works for me

Couple videos in my signature where i talk about how i have my dudes follow me (the info vid and the griklor the restless videos might be useful for you)

This has always worked for me because I have toons outside of my group.
I use hotkeys for all to follow named follow me:

/bca //mqp on
/bca //tar ${Me.ID}
/bca //stick 10

and when I get to where I am going hotkey named Resume:
/bca //stick off
/bca //mqp off

or not pausing MQ all move to me
/bca //nav id ${Me.ID}

and All come to me if someone gets stuck
/bca //nav id ${Me.ID}

can also just call group to follow with /bcg as the hotkeys do in your group window

I use /nav id ${Me.ID} quite a bit and the come to me button if I'm moving toons around.

If you're wanting to run and gun, I leverage the chase modes in macros/plugins. IHC now uses mq2nav based chasing by default (bringing it in line with KA, CWTN, and exspes's stuff), and falls back on afollow if there's no mesh.

If they are all in the same group I just use the "Follow me" button in the group box and if it's a complicated zone I'll have the map up just to make sure none of my group falls behind. Hasn't failed me yet.

I have one group and I almost always drive from one character. I used Kiss Assist on all my characters and I still use the old EQBCS service. That character has 2 EQ buttons...

This confused me a bit CWTN. I have MQ2Rogue and would like to try this routine out because every once in a while the rogue will choose a NAV path that gets me into trouble (for the reasons explained above). So can I use /${Rouge.Command} mode 0 or do I have to purchase MQ2Berzerker to make /${Berzerker.Command} mode 0 work? Or is there another way to get the follow routine to work on the Rogue? Thanks, AnotherJohn

I'm afraid currently there is no TLO stuff built into MQ2Rogue, I already had TLO for berzerker and added it back when berzerker/rog were the only plugins.

If you only have a rogue plugin then you can just do /bcaa //rog mode 0 in place of the TLO.

The purpose of the TLO is for people who have several of my plugins. Such as MQ2Cleric, MQ2Bst, MQ2War, MQ2Eskay, MQ2BerZerker, MQ2Rogue all running, then they can use one command to control them all. But again, that option was only available with the MQ2BerZerker plugin loaded on all the toons.

I might look into seeing if I can add a general one to all the class plugins that will use something like. ${CWTN.Command} as a TLO instead.
