Hi all!

I recently jumped into the EQL beta with my boyfriend (huge into EQ as a kid) after having not ever tried EQ before now (have played several other MMOs over the years). It's whet my appetite, and I started digging into the emulation side of things. I'm looking at trying out the Ascendent server, and the discussion of boxing on it eventually led me here. I'm going through the intro videos for MQ now and am really liking what I'm seeing. I'm excited to try my hand at it - maybe I'll even convince my partner to jump in at some point (he never really messed with the emulator side of things apparently). Figure I will probably start with no more than a trio so I don't get overwhelmed as I get up to speed. If anyone plays over there and has any particular thoughts on a good trio to start with, I'm all ears.

Yep, I'm aware from reading around a bit already. I was only mentioning it because it's how I got introduced to EQ in general.

Well, we're happy to have you regardless.

We have some long time folks who don't even eq anymore, but like to hang out for the community

For EQEmu servers, there is a number of options that you can explore. The rgmercs Lua may work. You can search on github for e3 macro (it is separate from this site). E3 has an active discord that may be able to help.

The issue with Ascendant is that it is unique and may require lot of tinkering to get things to work properly.

I would suggest taking a look at kissassist which will allow you to customize the ini to reflect the spells and AAs/abilities that your character has. You will find the read guides for kissassist here: https://www.redguides.com/docs/projects/kissassist/

Good L:uck if you do join Ascendant and begin to use MQ in your adventures.

One thing I might try is RGMercs Lua before MQ, as it is an out-of-the-box botting tool and requires no setup. Hope you find as much enjoyment as I have with this program, and welcome to the group.

Thanks for the kind words! I do want to point out that Ascendant would assuredly not be out-of-the-box for RGMercs; while there are people who use it there successfully, the cross-class AA availability means it takes tinkering with the class configs, sometimes rather heavily.

Oh thanks so much, these are exactly the kinds of callouts I was looking for. I hadn't considered how the variations in the content on some of the emu servers could impact the out-of-the-box behavior of the plugins. It totally makes sense that they would have a lot of built in assumptions focused on vanilla EQ content.

Not necessarily; for example, RGMercs has default configs already for EQ Might and Project Lazarus, and the Live defaults work pretty well for half a dozen other servers... Ascendant is just one of the most heavily customized servers out there.

But you will find "Live-centric" is sometimes a thing in resources here.

Ah gotcha, thanks for the nuance - I'm a software engineer, so having things described like this helps me start to build the mental model of how to approach things. Sounds like there's capacity in the tools to swap out configs centered around different servers with custom content, so I could potentially go dig and see if anyone's mentioned tailoring things for Ascendent as a starting point.
