I'm thinking this tactic can be used any place that has grouped mobs, and guards nearby. For sure, it works with the Nerius Pirate Captain, whom is a ^^^ named. He is part of a group spawn, located in Nektulos on the beach, by the docks. He's green up until you're level 34, at which point, he grays out.
Here's how to get his treasure, while soloing.
1) Start the battle,
2) Select the lowest level mob in the group, and kill it.
3) Run to the guards.
4) Let guards kill the the rest of the mobs.
5) Loot the LOOT from the nice CHEST that drops.
6) Go make a sandwich and get something to drink.
7) Try it again until you get bored, or your bags fill up with too much loot.
You have to kill at least one of the mobs before the guards kill the rest, and you will get a chest to drop.
