Question - GMM What's Cooking?

What am I doing wrong in this quest "What's Cooking?" in GMM? I am setting up back by the Ray-Gun looking thing, but twice now, when I think the coast is clear enough, I activate the Iron Chef and get creamed by adds. My pour bard can not mez fast enough.... sheesh.. as I type that out, I'm realizing that I am forgetting about my AE Mez.... need to try that...

Anyone have any suggestions other then too use your freaking AE mez or that should be enough?

iirc I ended up using my Shammy AE Root/kickback and killing everything around us. It was a terrible experience and I did die several times before going the root route.
