Getting Started in Depths of Darkhollow

We'll have some much more comprehensive guides by the end of the weekend, but in the mean time we wanted to give people some information if they're wondering how to get things started in Depths of Darkhollow. By the end of the weekend we should have guides available for listed missions, so check back early next week (We're hoping to launch our MISSIONS DATABASE Saturday or Sunday)

Finding your way around

There is a series of excellent quests to learn your way around the new zones. Speak with the Cartographer at the zone in of Corathus on the left and get all of his tasks. To complete the task you must visit various landmarks throughout the new zones (if you played EQ2 its very similar to the book quests that send you off to visit landmarks). You should pick up all these tasks before you set off on your adventures in the new lands as you'll come across the majority of the landmarks just travelling around the zones. We'll have a detailed guide with maps posted this weekend or next week.

Depths of Darkhollow Progression

There are several storylines going on in this expansion and it the lore is important to understand to get the most out of the expansion. Before you go running around in a lost daze wondering what all the mushroom people and clockwork gnomes are up to, I'd suggest familiarizing yourself with the lore. Our local Kyv, Ridefort has compiled the posts of Vahlar ( Vahlar is the designer at SOE behind the lore for expansions ) and I'd strongly suggest you read them to get to know the continent you're exploring. In many ways its like Velious, where its crucial to understand the different factions at work, who hates who and why they hate them. You can read the lore here.

Depths of Darkhollow uses story arcs for progression missions. A story arc is a series of missions that must be completed in order, similar to in Dragons of Norrath. We'll have guides up for these arcs shortly; in the mean time, here is a list of some of the arcs, and where you can get them (Thanks Nanyea for the information).

Brovil Pallivineg - Corathus Creep
Mission Zone: The Hive, Level: 65+
Brovil gives out the missions in a story arc surrounding a gnome named Cicero Quikwire.

Mission Order
- The Lost Notebook
- Cavern Botany
- The Search for Clues
- Rescue Cicero!

Jarzarrad the Prophet Undershore (loc -957, 637, 84)
Level: 68+
Preemptive Strike
Praetorian Guard
The Fall of Illsalin
Flight of the Seeker
Into the Shadows

If you're an end game player, you'll want to head to Jarzarrad and begin working through his progression of group missions. Be warned they are fairly challenging. Note, you can pick between getting a normal or hard version of each mission. You only unlock the next mission for the difficulty completed. That is to say, if you complete Preemptive Strike on normal, you will only have the normal version of Praetorian Guard available, not the hard one.

Getting Spells in Depths of Darkhollow

I've spent a fair bit of time on the various forums and one question I see on every one of them is how do you get your new spells.

Spells from previous expansions:
You're able to obtain spells from Omens in Depths of Darkhollow. These spells are acquired from Shadowspine runes and follow the same order as Omens runes, i.e. A Greater Shadowspine Rune is the same as a Greater Muramite Rune. (See the Omens spell order guide for specific info on spells for your class).

These runes drop in a variety of places, most of the named monsters in the static zones (Undershore and S. Falls especially) drop these runes it seems, along with monster missions (database coming soon), and regular missions.

Spells from Depths of Darkhollow:
These spells are gained through completing missions. I've been told they're more frequent the later in the progression of missions you are, but I can't confirm that yet. Mission/Spell information is as follows:

Level 68 DoD Spell:
Brovil Pallivineg - Corathus Creep
- The Lost Notebook
- Cavern Botany
- The Search for Clues
- Rescue Cicero!

Level 69 Spell:
Mazil Hibbinap - Corathus Creep
Mazil gives out a mission to search for a missing group of gnomes.
- The Lost Gnomes

Tisthal Gimblecranz - Corathus Creep
Tisthal is busy studying the drachnids and one of their more unique abilities.
- Hides You Seek

Calisar - Stoneroot Falls
Calisar is working with shiliskin priests to find a way to weaken the drachnid forces.
- Sabotage

The mission arcs can be gotten from Kelliad and Widdlethorpe.

Kelliad is located at 709, -1847, 9 and will give you a mission set called the 'Walls of Xill'.

Widdlethorpe can be found at -66, 1201, 63 and will give you a mission set called 'Controlling the Beast'.

Level 70 Spells (more common in later missions I'm told)

Confirmation: You get your level 70 spell UPON COMPLETION of the final mission.

Jarzarrad the Prophet Undershore 70 Spell
/loc -957, 637, 84
Preemptive Strike
Praetorian Guard
The Fall of Illsalin
Flight of the Seeker
Into the Shadows

As I said, all this information is fairly preliminary. The staff and I plan to spend a lot of time over the next week putting together more concrete information in more easy to view format. Specifically within the next week we'll be launching our new missions database that will contain information on missions in a format that makes them easier to view than any other fan site. We'll also be putting together progression guides, and have a more solid guide on how to acquire your new DoD spells.
