New accounts (those created in late 2014 and newer) aren't allowed to gain "silver membership." If they pay for gold membership and let it run out, they revert to "free membership" which leaves them without general chat, guild halls, certain mercs, and other features enjoyed by grandfathered silver accounts. All options to gain and buy silver membership were removed last year.... OR SO DAYBREAK THOUGHT
I've discovered a way around this: use a Krono. Apparently when SOE changed credit card subs, they forgot to do the same for Krono. Grab a cheap one and enjoy your month of all access, your 500sc, your autogranted AA's, and when your 30 days are over you'll see a shiny "silver" on char select
I presume you'll be able to keep silver for the life of the account, along with all the other grandfathered accounts. Welcome to the silver club!
