Ok so where to start lol. I played until house of Thule then left for a time and returned during call of the forsaken forsaken for a couple of weeks only to have to leave again. So my tank (sk) is wearing mostly dimensional warrior gear (cotf crafted) while the rest of the team is in mostly HoT t2 gear (from the grounds) with CoTF weapons. Most group buffed are between 70 and 80k with the sk being around 120-125k including staunch stance and touch of holmein. The sk has few augs (most of his gear has no augs) and the ones he does have aren't great mostly just the crap hotzone augs or from named in the grounds. He has buffed about 3.1k ac. My group is all 105 and consists of Sk, berserker, bard, mage, shaman, cleric, the sk has around 12.8k aa while the rest are between 9 and 11k aa.
So now that you have an idea of how far behind I am lol. In an attempt to update my gear I went to lcea and while I was able to kill regular mobs, my first attempt at a named mob was the dreadlands wanderer who on the first try wiped my group, I managed to kill him on the second try. The next one I tried was the lost hunter who repeatedly wiped my group 3-4 times, pretty fast too. So I figured I would ask the community for advice. Are there other names in eok that are easier that I should go for? Or should I go back to tbm and farm up some remnants and regear the group then go back to eok or? Thank you in advance everyone . Sorry it was so long.

I'd hit up different nameds in TBM for augs for everyone (they aren't prestige so you can use them for F2P)

Also the nameds there drop really good gear - way better than the crap you're using and even better than your tanks gear. Just start throwing pieces of gear on people from TBM zones left and right. The nameds there are pretty easy and shouldn't roll you like EoK did. They're slightly harder than CoTF tier 1 nameds but slightly less hard than CoTf t2 nameds (if that makes sense) in TBM.

Here is some information you may find helpful:

http://www.almarsguides.com/eq/endgame/gear/tds/ (Better gear you can get for the chars you have now right out of the baz for really cheap)

Or hang out in EoK tier 1 zones a bit and ask for rots. I know at this point all tier 1 visibles are rotting for me, so I just give them away or distroy them to keep the corpses down in my camp.

If I went with this strategy I'd choose frontier mountains. Seems like a ton of named and a ton of rots.

Either or.

I have a small army of toons I am gearing up, but first thing is to gear/AA up the tank so I got something solid to stand behind.

They got some new AA lines to help tanks with defense, but they are very AA expensive. And the best XP right now is in EoK, provided you can steadily kill. Doing the merc tasks in Lce ought to help with that.

Keep an eye out for the new merc gear as well. One strategy I have used successfully in the past on troublesome named.... divide your 6 man group into two 3 man groups and pop your mercs. Depending on what the named is doing to you, this can help increase your healing power.

One thing I did that helped me out was making a few spreadsheets so I can track gear/augments. Not only helps with "who needs this for an upgrade" but making one tracking for instance the AC augs on your tank helps stand out where he needs the most help. There are a number of AC augs from previous expansions that are easy enough to obtain, and well worth the effort. The rest of the group can be naked, but the tank has to be outfitted well! =)

not to mention deciding if you want to be a DEX or AGI tank, or work on both, or what ever route you want to take. They have been pumping out a lot of AC augs to the point where you may have multiple ones with the same AC but differing heroic stat boosting... better to know in advance then trying to figure it out on the fly (in my opinion)

Sorry, just rambling before the coffee kicks in

Any thoughts on hDEX/hAGI for an SK tank?

Any thoughts on hDEX/hAGI for an SK tank?

I went hDex and my SK's tanking ability went through the roof. Now that I'm square on that, though, I've slowly been adding hAgi in, as well. I'm really liking what I'm seeing. I will say, though, that if you troll the forums there are plenty of differing opinions. The prevailing method if you're in group gear is to pick one and max it out as much as possible.

In group gear, hDex all the way. There are plethora writeups on the official forums about this, but the boost from hAgi isn't very much when you compare the secondary tanking abilities that hDex boosts in addition to the added damage output. It's no contest really. For raid gear, though, you can potentially max out the advantages that hDex gives and then I would start going hAgi to maximize mitigation.

Thanks, this is very helpful as I just hit 105

So to go over "The Lost Hunter" http://eok.eqresource.com/thelosthunter.php

He will be super hard to take at 125k full buffed including lifetap buff because he has a 150k directional AE. Even with 35% spell shielding that ae hits for 97k which is going to one hit your support staff. The dreadlands wanderer was lots easier it was just tank n spank falls down regens more tank n spank.

Look up nameds on eqresource

Probably the best bet is to hunt normal mobs in Frontier Mountains and listen for rotting gear. There's a lot of it and can get your tank geared up in a few days. Once your tank is geared I'd switch to Tier 2. Starting in Chardok as it tends to be easier than Droga. Again I would prioritize upgrading the tank first.

TBM does have a number of easy to obtain AUG's for tanks and casters:

AC Aug Set
Incense of the Everliving
Speed Of Darkness
Predatory Markings
Sickly Distended Horseshoe
Glistening Oil
Condensed Desiccated Bile
Rationalist Sigil ( Shield Aug)
Hypocricy ( TBM Rare)
Voracity (TBM Rare)
Avarice (TBM Rare)

Caster Aug Set

Rummages Bauble
Speed of Darkness
Embalmers Cataylist
Condensed Desiccated Bile
Rationalist Sigil ( Shield Aug)

Some augs you might add from include:
Glittering Amber Fragment
Black Claw Fragment
Token of Hasty Fears
Chokidai Eye
Stone of Dragon Tolls
Everburning Cinder
Plaguebringer's vertebrae
Emblem of the Combine
Deep Mine Bulwark

With Anniversary missions coming up you should get a Shimmering Black Pearl for all your toons.

And as an SK tanking focus on getting a good shield and 1hd weapon - the shield will more than pay for itself. You can add a Nathsar Darkness to it as well.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone that's a ton of good info, I really appreciate it. When do the anniversary missions start? Which defensive aa are you talking about warlock?

The anniversary missions start this week with the Plane of War mission. More are added starting in the middle of March.
