I know people have been having trouble understanding what is required to successfully complete an Epic Retelling so here is some information I've gathered. Hope it is helpful:

1) You must have at least epic 1.0 and 1.5 - I have not tested with only having 1.5 and 2.0 but might be acceptable as well.

2) You need to complete an epic retelling at least 3 times. You only need to complete the extra step once during those 3 times but will not get the reward until after the 3rd time.

3) During the class portion of the epic retelling quest there will be a unique step which you must complete. There are two way of knowing if you have completed this correctly 1) there will be green text at the end of your class part saying ....this will make for a more interesting retelling of this tale. 2) If this is the 3rd time through you will see the ornament listed under preview reward, if not you will only see 1 AA listed. 3) If you completed the extra step correctly on a prior run though you will see the reward listed at the beginning.

4) Doing the class part first allows you to know rather you have completed the extra step correctly or not without traveling all over. If you drop the quest right after the class part you get no lock out. If you complete the quest incorrectly you get a 20 hour lock out.

5) A good guide to the base epic retelling - without the extra step is found:

http://special.eqresource.com/anepicrequest.php

6) Googling your class as epic retelling may lead you to a write up on one of the forums or hints given by people.

7) Everquest gives each class a two word hint for their retelling in the achievement.

Specific:

Paladins: The extra step involves two things during the retelling you must use all the spells listed in the basic write up - you will also need to stun the two left hands playing the organ in the ballroom - The epic must be used to kill the final mob.

Clerics: During the class part there are four items you must collect -

First, at the beginning while you are sarnak form don't go hail bathezid yet. Head into one of the side rooms and the one with the table on it has a book (history of di'zok) you can click on. Click it and put it in your inventory.

Second is in Naggy's lair, on the ledge before the fire giant king's room across the lava. Pick up the bottle of fennin ro and place in inventory.

When in skyfire, don't move and look up. You'll see a blue orb sitting in the dragon statue. Grab the pearlescent shard. I needed to climb on the back of the dragon statue and than down to reach it. Once you retrieve it continue on with the quest.

Last one is in the MPG trials. The neck item in your inventory is a clicky. The neck can cast "offer prayer". Just click on that 4 times and you'll receive the sigil of the legion item. It looks like a shield but unequipable.

These items don't stay in your inventory as you change areas so as long as they were collected and placed in your inventory they count.

Shaman: Need the "broken arrow" retrieved from their epic 1.0. This was given during the first part of the quest and if you destroyed it you can redo the test of patience to get a new one. At the end of the class section two elves will approach you, the male one will say something about using his last "broken arrow" to fight. Give him the broken arrow.

Wizards: Before the "event" in the hall starts you need to find 7 special guests and hail them (you do not have to name them - just hail). Each is labeled "Visiting Guest" and carries an item in their hands. Also, when hailed they will continue to repeat the same text. 3 of them are outside. 1 is in the academy of science building on the ground floor - and is a robot. The last 3 are in the basement of the hall where the event takes place. 2 of which are in a room with a woman who will banish you if you try to hail without being invisible.

I've done all of these so know they work.

Good Luck

This is great information, but just to clarify (and maybe suggest to Redbot of Maskoi to move it) ... this isn't specific to the progression servers. My understanding is this is on live servers, and is only "progression" in terms of improving your character and getting the achievements. Right?

Actually, Sum1 your totally correct it was posted in the wrong spot but I had no way of moving it once I figured it out :-( Probably would be better placed under Strategies.

I started just for the excitement of doing a new quest which wasn't known, but finding out that it was the gateway to the new artisan's quest line was a nice bonus.

And since the Ornamentation for most classes isn't that great I'm sure more are doing it now to get the artisan's quest.

Edit: I've heard but can not confirm you can get the collection quest for the artisan without the epic quest completion as long as you have max skills and ts trophy.

That wizard one is a bish. (The ornament is by far the best of all the classes). The quest is relative to an old SNES game where you have to run around hailing the guests using the names from that game. I would never have done it if it weren't for a guildy buddy that guided me. And apparently he got the clues from following Dzarns twitter ... total bollocks.

for rangers you need to forage 4 items during the class event , each are lore ,no drop ,no zone etc . each items is in rapport with one of 4 animals in this quest (a branch , a carot etc ) at the end the avatar of growth give you the bonus quest if you have the 4 foraged items in bag :)
