Ok, so later on this year, I plan to upgrade my motherboard and add another video card. My question is this: Do the video cards need to be identical?

Well it has been years since I "built" a system, but even back of the day of ISA slots you didn't need identical cards. I'm sure that with today's systems you don't need identical cards either.... probably don't have to worry about interupts and such these days either.

If you are going to use SLi to bridge the cards from nvidia the cards should be the same. If you are using Crossfire from AMD then you don't have to worry about as much. If you just want a multi monitor setup then as long as the video cards are compatible with your mother board you are good to go.
