Dont forget to hail the npc after killing murderer (and be ready, murderer will auto aggro (red con) on you right after you accuse him), which is when he will hand you the red paste.

You dont need the group task to hand stuff in to the batling in static Dreadspire either...

Also, the real great thing, the whole group will receive a 'red paste' for turning in for the aug... so thats getting 6x augs PER run..

Re: Dinner Party

Also watch out for the guards outside the door, they have a large Aggro radius and hit my raid geared warrior surprisingly hard.

Re: Dinner Party

Deliver 1 Fancy Formal Dinner Invitation to the doorman

Speak with the Guests.

Speak with Melion Pell.

Show Melion Pell the proof.

Show Melion Pell the proof.

Show Melion Pell the proof.

Show Melion Pell the proof.

Show Melion Pell the proof.

Tell Melion Pell in what room was the murder committed?

Accuse the murder by stating their class.

Defend yourself from the accused!

??? ???

Okay so, after speaking to the guests, the room blacks out, Mr Smotts is killed, and you are to find 5 "proofs". These proofs are apparently the ground spawn around the zone. There are numerous SIB (some even see through SoS) and the pathing is just as fun as always.

"Hand food to guy until you find the murderer."

Huh?
which guy? Melion?
What food? The stuff on table, or something you bring, or?
How does the food tell who the murderer is?

I is cornfused...

-----------------

I didn't realize the time sink this was going to turn into so, had to leave after collecting two of the ground spawns. Apologies if this becomes "self evident", but heck... I wasn't sure if I was suppose to be looking for random loots, or even if I was suppose to be killing things ( solve a murder by murdering the residents....) or WTF was going on... heh

I tried to do this legit and came here to find that there was this tip on how to do it "better" (aka exploit it lol).

I'll try to explain what the original poster meant:

So, zone in. Hand in the dinner invitation to the doorman, and do the hails until the room blackens out and Mr. Smott is schwacked.

IGNORE the proofs.

Now, you DO still need to figure out which class of dinner guests is the killer. To do that you hail around, talk to those fools, and then ONE AT A TIME (make sure you keep track of where you are taking the item from) hand in the food item taken from the table to Melion. When the task updates, the class of NPC you took it from is the killer. Once you know which class the killer is, go back to Melion and simply say "the druid" or "the shadowknight" or "the bard" or whatever class it was.

As soon as you say this the red con will attack you/your group, so be ready to grab it. Kill it, hail Melion again, and the red paste will pop on all your cursors. The second run I just made I wasn't sure which room the murder was done in because my rogue was killed in the lab by a see sos mob. So I just ignored that part and just said which class it was. That was enough to get the mob to go active and get the turn-in item for the aug.

Once you get the red paste, head to the real dreadspire and turn it in to any batling for your aug.

Hope that clarifies things. Cheers.

Actually.. i didnt hand in the invitation until AFTER i /say laboratory (for example) and /say necromancer (also just an example) to Melion... it updates even if it doesnt show it..

So.. i did in this order:
1-zone in
2 -look on our MQ2 map what the ground spawn in front of each character class around the table is called.. then one by one hand them to Melion.. the one he accepts is the murderer's.. then you find the room by matching the groundspawn name from the one he accepted to one somewhere on the map... for example.. the apple is actually called 'burning ember' on the groundspawn (mq2 map)...
3- when i've finally got the one that Melion took, then i look on the map to figure out what room this is.. you need to know dreadspire for this part.. or have a good map of it with the names of the rooms..
4 - go over to Melion (being careful to NOT step on that rug beside him, which is a pit trap) i like to stand away a bit, because of the guards on the other side of the door behind him, and target him, /say laboratory (again if i determined the room where i saw the burning ember was the lab) , then if you are correct, he'll ask who i think the murderer is.. then you can /say necromancer etc...
5- be sure to have your grp's KA's running n not paused, cuz then the necromancer is gonna lose his shit on you... kill him
6 - i go over to the other side of the room, nearish the door man, again standing about as far back i can to hand him the invitation.. that way no mob aggro from the guards on the other side of the door
7 - talk to the remaining guests (can only get 7/8 this way, but im not interested in finishing the mission, just want the aug)
8 - go back to Melion and hail him.. he will reward your group with red paste .. Yay soilent green for all!

at this point i drop task and head for the static dreadspire..

If you wanted to finish the mission itself, you'd have to hail the npcs before you accuse the necro, but this will affect what events trigger within the mission.. possibly forcing you to jump through other hoops..

On run #2 using this method I couldn't tell for sure which room to say to Melion, so I just didn't say any. I just handed in stuff from the table until I could accuse using the NPC's class and that was it. It still gave me the red paste.

Re: Dinner Party

So the ground item is always a burning ember?

No, it is not. He was using that as an example. The apple graphic is listed as "a burning ember" on the map.

Re: Dinner Party

Ahh ok

- - - Updated - - -

So I just did it and didn't say the location... I just said the killer's class and hailed the guy after I killed it. Poof stuff on my cursor..

Re: Dinner Party

I can't get this to work, did they somehow nurf it? or am I doing something wrong. hmm...

Re: Dinner Party

Also. Upon turning your fruit into the batling, you can go back to the erudite hail him for another fruit without solving the mystery again. This can be repeated for 6 hours straight. Seems like a good way to get a ban.

Well the idiot developer ran the missions 100x, his words, not mine.

I ran the setup 100 times, literally. (I put a huge amount of debug text in the script) ...

If they do ban for this, that's just poor development, especially if you are spending that much time on a mission and can't find these type of flaws.

Like I keep saying, shitty fucking lazy developers, after all what did he really do, copy a zone , turn up the knob on mob damage (lazy ass fucker), and add some new text to a new task. And then can't find these type of flaws running the mission 100x.

Maybe if they actually did stuff in a timely manner, like not spending 1.5 years making half an expansion (RoS), then releasing it unfinished/poorly developed, then having to go back and spend patches fixing what should have been fixed before the expansion went live. They wouldn't fall behind on other things like this anniversary mission to create.

Unfortunately, the new anniversary content wasn't ready for testing a month ago. Most of it wasn't ready for public consumption a week ago. It's been a busy year.

Busy year being lazy because management either doesn't care to keep them inline or management has no clue how to manage and watch their performance.

What's the point of that if the aug is lore and (I'm fairly sure) the task locks as soon as you request it?

Re: Dinner Party

Okay, the mobs in the A Formal Dinner Party anniversary mission are a little rough, but here's a quick way to get the augumentation. You'll need a tank, some good burst dps and an Eye of Zomm type ability - Hologresh Elder Beads works just fine.

Once you start the mission, note which foods are on the table in front of each dinner guest. Offer the foods to Melion Peel one at a time. If the guest isn't the murderer, Melion Peel will hand it back to you. If he accepts it and you get a task update, you've found your killer, now you need to find the murder location.

Take an eye of Zomm and look for the food that was in front of the murderer NPC and find the room that the ground spawn matching the food was in, they can be in Ballroom, Study, Ritual area, Bedroom, Lab, Library or Crypt. Once you've found the ground spawn matching, note the mobs in the room and tell Melion Peel the correct room. The murderer will then agro (red con) and can be burst down before Deflection fades on a shadowknight, so I'm relatively sure a ranger can tank it too. Be sure it's correct on the first try, as long as it is, you can turn it into any "a batling" mob in the static version of Dreadspire Keep to get Extruded Black Pearl: https://items.eqresource.com/items.php?id=151936

Note that it's currently the best charm augument in game. You do NOT get the achievement for completing the mission this way, and there's a couple of interesting bugs if you attempt to continue that are Firiona Vie specific.

Looks like people are not reading and continuing to post on how to bypass the mission.

Re: Dinner Party

WTB Map with Names!
I had quit EQ just when DoD was coming out...
For those of us who have no clue what room is what here, could someone label a map of Dreadspire and upload it to this thread please?

Thanks!

Re: Dinner Party

well, late last night and this morning, the "bypass" is no longer working. (at least not for me)

They made it so you have to complete previous tasks to call out the murderer.

However they took out like 80% of the trash to make it way easier.

Well, the amount of mobs in the zone has been reduced (most notably the 2 door guards) and you no longer get the paste after killing the murderer, according to the EQ forums you get a message saying "come back after you have collected all of the evidence. "

So guessing you have to do it legit. Though folks are still posting not being able to do it legit, amazing how they did not fix that part =)

Re: Dinner Party

This is what I am using anyways Fiddler.

Having done this "legit" I want to point out that, of the 5 "proofs" 4 of them are random drops from the trash mobs in the zone... and the 5th is the food. In my cause the drops were chainmail, cudgel, spear tip...shaman stuff. So I took the food off the table in front of the shaman and BINGO...proof number 5. (encase anyone else was confused on that point... yes I can be slow at times =P)

Another thing I noticed, you get the item clues, look at the descriptions, they are all usable by classes just like our normal gear.. only common theme is that one class (the murderer) will be usable by all 4 items... ie, you see NEC as the only class appearing on all 4 diff items, then he's your murderer.

surf its the best ac aug for primary, use the 45 ac for charm... tanks perspective)

i presently have them reversed heh.. the new aug in charm and the shimmering black pearl in my primary.. same overall stat.. but yeah :)

Re: Dinner Party

Warl0ck45 Thank you very much sir for the Map Points...
Before this was nerfed I scoured the web for what I could and found Nothing!
My killer on that mission I ran was the SK... I was able to see the location of the Turkey on the map but I had no clue what the name of the room was =/

Oh well, at least now I have the info I need.

Again, Thank you!

Re: Dinner Party

Just had time to actually play again and tried this task. Got the food hand in early on and handed it in. NPC accepted the hand in, but did not get a task update. No idea what, so I just continued and spent the next 3 hours clearing the entire zone to get all updates except the food hand-in update. Knew it was the enchanter in the ballroom and was able to update that and kill enchanter, but could not complete task. So ya, wasted 3-4 hours of my time because DBG sucks. Just a rant, kinda pissed. But gonna assume if you hand in something and the NPC accepts it, but no task update, should probably just quit and restarts.

Re: Dinner Party

Casca the "quick method" got nerfed, so you have to do the task "as intended"

Which means:

Hand in your invitation
Follow the script of hailing all the classes at the dinner table. Wait while the butler gets murdered.
Talk to the hand in dude
Go about the castle killing things, and collecting random drops (4 of them) turn those in before you do the food.
The turn in guy will prompt you for the location of the murder, and then the class.
Upon saying the class, that NPC will attack you, and it is rather freaking mean. (I have actually had 3 attack, go figure) I have lost my tank before I could pull the mob to a wall at times, so prep them for a hard named fight.
After killing, you hail the turn in guy, and the "berry paste" will appear on your cursor. If someone in your group didn't get it, have them hail as well. Apparently you can hail as much as you want.

I was pushing 3 accounts through during this so I added 3 alternate toons to the task right off, and logged to them at the end and zoned in, got their item with no issues.

Then you run out to Dreadspire to give the paste to a batling (there is one at the zone in with like a 5 minute respawn)

I did it "as intended", but the food turn in did not update the task. After killing every single mob and picking up all ground spawns and trying to turn in everything was when I skipped ahead. Whatever, moved on and tried it again this morning and got the aug.

Update guys:

As of test patch this past week, they did 2 things:
1 - they ninja nerfed and revoked the aug from anyone who got it via the shortcut method.
2 - They are now only awarding 1 red paste per successful completion of the mission

I have verified a couple things.. I did lose the aug on all toons who did this via the shortcut, and the aug DID stay on toons who did the full mission and the whole group was rewarded the red paste at once.

I believe on live (until this coming Wednesday patch) you STILL get the full group reward of red paste.. so if you need it for multiple toons, you have until this upcoming Wednesday live patch before it gets nerfed...
