Dear Survivors,

After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to sunset Just Survive on Wednesday, October 24 at 11 a.m. PT. The excitement of the game’s promise was palpable and its loyal community is still full of ideas for its future. Unfortunately, we are no longer in a position to fulfill its greatness and the current population of the game makes it untenable to maintain.

Just Survive was part of our first Early Access project, and we learned a great deal during its development. As with any open world game, the greatest stories came from our passionate players. From the incredibly skilled base builders to the free-ranging gangs, and all of the players named variations of “ImFriendly” and “PleaseDontShootMe”, we hope everyone had amazing adventures across Pleasant Valley and Badwater Canyon.

Thank you for taking the time to play the game, to help test it when we opened the Test servers to the public, and for all of the suggestions and feedback throughout Early Access. We truly appreciate everyone’s commitment and your contributions throughout the development process. Our promise is to do better and learn from every experience along the way.

Just Survive servers will remain available for play until Wednesday, October 24 at 11 a.m. PT, and starting immediately all Steam purchases and in-game transactions have been disabled. To find out if you are eligible for a refund via Steam, please visit this link.

Thank you again for your support and dedication to Just Survive.

Best,

The Just Survive Team at Daybreak Games

The premise of this game sounds kinda fun. Some world war z shit.

This was a "jump on the bandwagon" game anyways.
  • 2013 - Day Z zombie-survival mod for Arma2 becomes super popular
  • 2015 - Daybreak's H1Z1 zombie-survival game goes to Steam early release
  • 2015 - PlayerUnknowns "DayZ Battle Royale" mod of DayZ/Arma2 becomes super popular
  • 2015 - Daybreak hires PlayerUnknown as a consultant
  • 2016 - Daybreak announces H1Z1 is being split into two games, "Just Survive"=zombie-survival & "King of the Hill"=Battle Royale
  • 2016 - PlayerUnknown's contract expires at Daybreak and Bluehole hires him to develop a Battle Royale game...
  • 2017 - PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds by Bluehole takes over Twitch and becomes a runaway hit.
  • 2018 - US/Russian sanctions announced that will probably include Columbus Nova. Daybreak remembers "it was totally never Columbus Nova, did I say I was Columbus Nova?" and fires a ton of Daybreak staff in mad dash to save capital that "is totally not being sent out of the country." While firings hit many games, it sounded like H1Z1 dev/platform-transition team took major hits.
  • 2018 - "Just Survive" sunsets.
Footnote: Epic Games was helping Bluehole with technical aspects of the Unreal Engine running PU Battlegrounds. Suddenly Epic Game's building survival game added a battle royale mode and went on to take-over Twitch again as Fortnite.

FrankieonPC's 2012 playlist of his DayZ games is a fun watch.

They killed it long ago, it just refused to die :P ...

It was fun at first, until they made it so zombies didn't spawn anywhere but in cities, and didn't deal with the issue of griefing and bases everywhere.

I think it's disgusting that they don't let the games live on life their own when they die, it was a 20 dollar game that also has in-app purchases.

"Just Survive is a survival massively multiplayer online game developed and published by Daybreak Game Company for Microsoft Windows. The game released in early access in January 2015, selling over a million copies within two months. Wikipedia "

At least release a method for people to run their own servers and make the game available free as a sunset method. In general the big game companies are terrible members of the community and have no social responsibility. I feel sorry for the people that do play this game and like it.

Was about time to shut down life support to be honest.
I liked it when it came out but once they split it up into two games the writing for Just Survive was on the walls.
