Problem - DanNet connection issue and specific solution

Hello,

I wanted to switch to DanNet but it would not connect all the peers after loading up the plugin. Now with MQNext and wanting to try RGMercs I did some troubleshooting as it was more important to have DanNet work.

I am posting this here in case others have similar issues as I did not find a solution in the FAQ or anywhere else.

After loading the plugin some peers would only see themselves, while other peers could see a number of peers (including the one that could only see itself). It was very inconsistent and did not make sense. /Dnet interface all showed the proper interface. in my situation some interfaces were Wi-Fi while others were Ethernet. There was a suggestion that all interfaces be either Wi-Fi or Ethernet. However, that did not matter in my case.

The solution was an easy one but was initially overlooked. I had to open up firewall permissions. I opened up the permissions for EQGame.exe and the MQNext app. After doing this on every machine DanNet works like a charm and as advertised, even though I have Wi-Fi and Ethernet interfaces.

In Windows you can disable the entire firewall (not recommended unless you know better) or you can add allowance for an app specifically. In the Windows Firewall settings there is a link labeled "Allow an app through Firewall". In there is the opportunity to create a new rule and select the exe files to allow.

TLDR; If Dannet is not connecting as expected and does not see all the peers it needs to, be certain to doublecheck that your firewall has allowances for EQ and MQNext.

Hope this helps!
