Problem - Computer crashing with 6 boxing

I just came back to everquest specifically to 6 box and learn how to create some macros / automation. I played in high school and now I work in software / databases and have a renewed interest in Everquest from nostalgia and the prospect of being able to 'solo' group content starting at level 25 on the test server.

The problem is, I crash every time I try and run 6 tunes at once. I have a VERY powerful laptop. I am running a Maingear Pulse that I bought 4-5 months ago with:

• 32gb of ram
• NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970M 6GB GDDR5
• Intel® Core™ i7 6700HQ - 2.6GHz up to 3.5GHz w/ Turbo Boost 6MB L3 Cache

This should be more than enough to 6 box. I am also using innerspace / ISBoxer for screen management.

This doesn't generally seem to be an issue when I run ISBoxer and don't turn macroquest on. However, when I turn macroquest on, and especially when I start using KissAssist to run my team, it freezes the computer where my only option is to force reboot it with the power button. At first I thought it was the bard and the overhead required to run constant twisting but I tried it also with a 4 box and it still crashed, although it took a bit longer. Also, this happens without combat as well, though it happens very quickly with combat.

I was really looking forward to getting back into Everquest and purchased subscriptions for macroquest and inner space. I would love to be able to utilize these. Does anyone have any suggestions? Let me know what other information I can give you to help you help me.

I updated to the latest compile late last night and haven't been able to use ISBoxer and MQ2 at the same time since then. That might be your problem (although I'd presume others would be talking about it right now, which I haven't seen).

Do you have MQ2Log turned on by chance? I know there's an issue with Gamparse (or whatever the fuck it's called) that will freeze up EQ if you have logging turned on and your anti-virus is set to real time threat monitoring. The solution is to add your log folder to the 'do not monitor' section of your anti-virus program.

I doubt this is your issue but since you say you can run EQ without MQ loaded it's worth a look in to. A powerful computer can be brought to its knees by 6x logs being written at the same time and being scanned by an AV every second when they change.

I've had issues with isboxer before, but I don't think I've had hard lockups in a long time.

I would try the following:
Make sure any antivirus is disabled.
Make sure you have mq2fps or background fps limited to something low.
Try EQ with just MQ2.
If no issues, add isboxer.
If no issues, re-enabled AV.

I've had issues playing a bunch of instances on laptops due to CPU heat throttling, so making sure the instances are not chewing CPU that's not needed may help.

Also, my machine is similar to yours, 32GB ram, 970, and a xeon e3-1270-v3. and I routinely run 18 instances, with no issues beyond CPU use (even with background fps dropped).

Well, the only change to the system since 6+ boxing for weeks on a Windows 10 system is the MQ2 update I downloaded last night (after being gone for the weekend). Prior to Wednesday evening I was using ISboxer + MQ2 with 6 to 9 instances without problems. That's why I'm skeptical its an issue with my AV.

It sounds like you are running into a different problem than Adamk, I read it that his machine hard locks, not a CTD. My comment was geared toward his issue. I don't have a sub to isboxer anymore, or I could try it with the latest compile to see if my experience matches yours on the crashes (hehe, I stopped using isboxer a while back due to crashes).

Also, just from an experience standpoint, is ISBoxer and macroquest2 necessary? Do you gain anything over using both since generally you are botting the background games anyway?

How do I check if I have MQ2Log turned on? is MQ2Log necessary or can I just disable it? If it is unnecessary then I will figure out how to look into the antivirus stuff.

ISBoxer for your setup is likely not necessary if you aren't using it to repeat keys or anything. Your computer is easily strong enough to run 6 boxes. MQ2Autologin can automate launching your boxes at this point.

As far as the freeze is it happening as soon as you try to engage KA on all your toons? If so it could be because those INI files are currently for 8.5.5 and it's trying to rewrite all of your INI files at once. Try loading the toons one by one and see if that helps. Each one WILL lock up for 10 seconds or so while it processes. So go one by one and wait for the system to respond again before going to the next toon.

Hi dreamflux, it is normally shortly after I engage KA. Typically I click a button to run the macro all at the same time for kissassist. This is slightly slow but it seems to be fine. However, shortly after I start running/moving is typically when it crashes. However, sometimes just sitting there with macroquest running in the background (without running KA) it will crash.

MQ2Nav + IsBoxer don't really work well together. Also make sure you don't have pull with melee it has been acting weird since the last patch.

EQBC is great for repeating commands between characters. There is a guide in the plugin list for all you can do.

I would do a /plugin mq2fps unload as well because the built in fps limiter in options is just as good if not better I haven't used mq2fps for the last 2 years or so.
And let me echo what maskoi said don't use mq2nav and isboxer for now. Mq2nav can't handle it. (Next update it can)

Thanks again everyone, successfully ran a 6 box in a few LDON last night to get used to the program. I am having some issues with heals and buffs but I think I can figure it out - if not I'll post a different thread.

So happy to get it up and running and see a faithful EQ following is still alive.

To be honest, not 100% sure. I turned the FPS way down on my client which could have been it. I also reinstalled everquest and macroquest. I stopped using innerspace, I prefer EQBC easily already.

I added an exception to my windows defender but I am not sure that it did anything. Either way, the combo of all these and its working now.

I am not sure what combination of the tactics in this forum worked but I was able to get it so that I can play most of the time. However, my computer still crashes from time to time with just a 6 box so something has to be wrong. It is like it is getting hung up. If I have spotify on (which I do not always have one, most of the time it is not on when I crash), the music will get stuck in a half second loop rapidly repeating itself and I have to force the computer off with the physical on/off button.

This doesn't seem to matter too much to my computer but I am nervous because, at least years ago, force shut off could cause serious damage to your computer in the long term, especially if frequent.

I use this computer for work as well so I can't have it crap out on me for a game. Anyone have other ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

I have two different 6 boxes by the way - it happens for both groups and they are completely different class makeups.

Welp, there are the old standby's.

Spybot Search and Destroy
AntiVirus of some sort (AVG, AVAST, ect)
Anti-Malware of some sort (Windows Defender, MalwareBytes, ect)
CCleaner (which has an excellent registry checker.. be sure to back up thought of course)
Glarytools (Excellent collection of tools, but more importantly a 1 click maintenance feature, including driver update checks.)
Firewall (ZoneAlarm, Komodo, ect)

which you ought o already have anyways but, just putting it out incase something got overlooked.

If you are using Win10, they pushed a bad patch through not to long ago, may want to check on that.

Which ever version of windows you have may have also made a crash log, you may want to google how to find and read them.
