Question - barter or stop exp to put trader up?

Ok, so just recently returned to the game and trying to catch up level wise (cant catch up too much gear wise as i don't have tbm or eok and am wearing dimensional warrior stuff on my tank sk, the tds group stuff is slightly better, but i need to finish leveling first). When I left krono on my server were 250-300k so I could farm / buy them as needed (wishing i had stocked wayyyyy up lol). After coming back I checked and they are 2-2.5mil on my server, which I just cant afford for the time being (if ever lol). So heres my question. Should I use barter to sell the silks / pelts / stuff I can (mostly trade skill stuff) or should I take time away from my groups exp to put up a trader? What do you guys who don't have a bunch of plat / krono do? At the moment my only gold character is my tank so if I do a trader, exp will die out while i try to sell some of the items / trade skill stuff i picked up and i really don't wanna lose the exp, but barter seems so low, i checked and some of the items on trader for example are like 75pp each, but cheapest on a trader is like 200pp .. per item that's a huge difference. Although barter is guaranteed sale while trader is not. (on a side note, I wouldn't mind getting using the silks to get my tailoring up to make my own bags as 18 slot bags and 20 slot + bags on my server are like 8-100k (8 being the 16-18 slotters and 100k being the 20+ slotters). Just wanted to get everyone elses opinion on this. Thanks everyone for all the help i have received so far since coming back, its made my coming back really awesome.

Of course everyone has their own opinion, so what I'd suggest is for the time being keep your silks and learn how to make bags - use the bags as an income source. Next as you can hunt TDS collect relic fragments they have increased in price due to heavy need and low volume now that few hunt there. I'd still use trader when your not online. Another area which is overlooked for cash is dropped collectibles. Individual pieces often sell for 50 to 100K With a full collection going as high as a million on my server for the value added. Trade skill items are also going to continue to increase in value due to the new pressure put on the system by those working on either artisans aug or leveling up their trade skills. Look for rare to semi rare items which come from lower zones as well. Ice of velious for example you could have one FTP toon in a low level zone just trying to farm that, again it's value sits between 50 and 100k depending. Hope some of the ideas help.

Thx for the info man, if I had a Krono layin around I would use it on one of my benched accounts for trader use to make some play, sadly it will have to wait lol. For now I think I'm going to setup a room to use as a trader when I can, and just fill his inventory and bank with stuff to sell, I need to clean out my banks anyway I just dread doing it hehe.

not sure on your server but on mine the extraplanar silks for the tradeskill bags are becoming rare. The silks used to sell for 300-600 with the bags in the 1k-1.5k range. Since EoK, silks are in the 2-5k range, with bags in the 20-35k range. (drop in the House of Thule zones so, can potentially XP your dudes while farming cash crops!)

The various purity augs have gone up as well, with everyone upgrading armor left and right. They sit on my trader for less then a day before someone cleans me out. I am up to about 10k in prices for the 25 purity ones.

And of course there is ye old gem farming. I make roughly 300-600k a night in just diamond/blue diamond farming, along with the various merchant fodder items.

And always keep an eye out for rare drops, if you are in CotF or newer expansions. CotF rares have been going to 500k-1m pp on my server.
------------

I have been making new batched of lowbie toons and leveling them for a friend (isn't that always the case... heh) and simply been leveling them to 75, then grouping them with a 105 in a CotF zone. I spend roughly 300-400k in spells/tomes, don't worry about gear till they are 100+, then deck them out in Latent (CotF tier 1, non prestigious) and maybe farm some named/run missions to finish out the gear. It is not the best, but it gets them a geared enough they don't keel over when the mob sneezes =)

Why Latent? Now that TDS is FTP everyone should have access to Castaway gear (TDS Tier 1) from the bazaar. On my server it's not that expensive. I also find from your comments that our economy is very different from yours... CoTF rares basically never sell anymore, unless it's a weapon, and even then you'd be LUCKY to get 500k. I've dropped all my CoTF rares from 1-2mil down to 500k-800k hoping to unload them and they're mostly still languishing on my trader. I also stopped even selling the 25 purity augs because no one was buying them. I'd let them sit on mobs or I'd unload them to a merchant for a 1 silver or whatever just to make someone's day. Even the +35 purity augs from EOK are down to 300k on my server as of last night.

For me it is because I have a few hundred thousand marks on various toons, it is literally costing me nothing to put them in latent (unless you view it as potentially lost revenue from not turning the marks into latent and selling, but the market has been soft) TDS is still very popular, with most of the decent camps one can get to with out progression occupied. The gear still sells decent, since it is about the best you can get with out buying a ton of remnants (which are selling for roughly 30k per 1000, and while I just woke up if I recall rightly 1 augment is 1250, need 2 augments per piece of armor so 2500... 2.5X30 = 75k or so per piece) But aye, every servers economy is different =)

The latent is just a stop gap until farming TBM. With CotF for instance I am using a 105 ranger, the rest of the group of new toons. With TDS or TBM, I would have to increase the amount of 105's, as well as use a real tank.

Right now I am shooting for getting as many to 105 and then near max AA as possible before worrying about gear really, as I can park and forget the ranger while I play my real group. When I go gear hunting, will have to pay closer attention, or use geared/leveled toons and do a lot of switching.... which again I would have to pay closer attention =) It sounded like he was looking for a "set and forget" type on set up to level and make cash at... and CotF is doing exactly that for me. Every other day or so I empty all the merchant fodder stuff onto one of the new toons, port them to the library, sell everything... buy new spells, parcel the extra cash my main accounts... port back to camp and go about my business. The camp pays for itself and then some. It aint fast like what Raz can do, but it works for me. His accounts for room for 1-2 more toons on each account, in the meantime I set him up with 4-5 toons on each account whose 105 with near max AA, and made some 4m pp or so.
---------------------------------------
The silks I noticed because I like to have at least 1 TS bag on every toon. If you put it as bag 1, it filters out the TS stuff (until the bag/bags are full) thus, I watching the prices somewhat. The prices are going up because HoT zones are not being used to level toons as much, now that the hot zones have changed.

IF it was me, I would sell my kidney and buy them all EoK, the t1 gear from EoK will change everything about how you play and how fast you can farm even older content for things like silks and diamonds! EoK is the way to go, even if you stay FTP the gear is SO worth it!

Yea but until taxes I just can't afford it no matter how much I want it :( .. unless your spottin me Raz ;) joking of course, but yea trust me I can't wait until I have eok :(
