From the official forums. Kinda bummer to hear this at Christmas but I wish him all the best.

Hello,

Absor here.

I just wanted to pop in and let you all know that I am retiring from Daybreak, from working entirely I guess, at the end of the year.

I’ve been working at Daybreak, and the many previous names we’ve had, for 25 years. Over that time, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some amazing coworkers and for some great customers. But it’s time for me to get to relaxing full time.

I’ve worked with hundreds of great folks and there’s no way to thank them all properly. I’d love to give them all props individually, but that’s just not possible, and I’d certainly miss some important folks.

Even so, I definitely want to thank Brad McQuaid for hiring me in the first place. Not a leap of faith I would have made. Mike Hutchins for making me feel welcome when I first started. I was terrified about leaving a cozy, if boring, government job to work in a volatile industry like video games. Mike made me feel welcome. I really want to thank Charles Flock for trusting me and letting me help with testing on Tanarus, since that was the starting point for all of this for me. I probably didn’t thank them enough when they were here with us, but they say it’s never too late.

There are hundreds more that have made this experience great. Just read all the credits for EverQuest and you’ll have an idea of who they are. Thanks to all of you.

Some of you players have been a true pain in the ass, and that’s great. I appreciate the passion you all bring to the game. I want to especially thank all of you that pop in to help beta test every year. I have had the pleasure of working with some fantastic folks over the years, and especially raid guilds. Thanks to all of you for your help. Do me a favor and keep doing what you’ve been doing.

Enough of that. There are just too many people that helped make the last 25 years fun and functional. Remember Woody and all the other cartoonists? All the folks that ran/run the sites that made gathering information about the game a bit of a game of its own?

I know, I know, you’re all worried that things will fall apart without me here to smash stuff into shape. Well, I’m not. The current team is as good as any that came before, better in many ways. They have all the passion and skill you’d want to keep the legacy of EverQuest and move it forward. I am certain that I leave you all in good hands.

It’s been a fraught and fun journey from community manager to whatever the heck my title is now, but it’s time for me to take up some full-time hobbies and whatever else retired folks get up to.

Goodbye Heroes.

Alan

Enjoy your retirement!

One less member of the "no fun allowed" team. Hoping Aristo and Ngreth follow suit.
