IRL - Returning Player

Hey Norrathians,

Returning player here looking to get a group up and running. I am not entirely sure where to start so I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction of which helpful videos are most important!

I'd probably start with watching some of @SicVid on YouTube to understand how the whole MQ thing works. It took me a couple weeks but I was able to figure out what he was doing to get a few toons moving, then I was able to work my way up to a full group. Definitely start with some of the basic guides and build on the foundational skills. Also, you're going to need to get Level 2 access using the RedCents (Store is in the top right of the website) before you are going to be able to get the launcher and read most of the guides.

Melee or caster preference? All gold or autogrant and a krono of grinding aa?

Tank, heal, cc - 3x dps of your choice.

I’m partial to SK, SHM, BrD, Rog, zerk, bst

SK, Clr, BrD, mag, nec, BST.

Learn to crawl before you walk, learn to walk before you run. The best thing about boxing is you can go at your own pace. Because of that, all classes are viable as long as you try and include the Holy Trinity (Tank, Healer, CC).

SK seems to be a popular tank option, but I know Pally and warrior are viable too.

I've split my two groups into melee and caster focused.

Main group is: SK, Shm, Brd, Rng, Zerk x2. I want to replace a Zerk with either Rog or Monk.

Not sure how long you were gone but if it was more than say, 8-10 years then first thing is do a quick run thru the tutorial in the game itself. Even if you are a slow reader it should not take more than 15 minutes to do just the quests in the middle and it will give you a good idea of what has changed. You can make any character and even use a free account.

Your group should be which ever you want to play. For example, I dislike clerics and warriors so I would never use either. I like ranger, enchanter and beastlord with mercs

It is really hard to advise you since we are not sure if you are starting anew or just stopped playing last year.

But, as mentioned above, it would help you to get into the Red Cent thing. It is kinda hard at first cause you have to be level 2 to give them out but it looks like you have enough already. Level 2 is just 50 Red Cents in the store.


This is what level 2 will get you:

Very Vanilla, the ultimate multi-boxing utility. Works on official servers & test server.
Support for any issue you run across.
The largest macro and Lua collection for EverQuest on the internet.
Can give "RedCents" to other users
KissAssist - the quickest and easiest Everquest boxing macro.

Start Slow. I would suggest running 3 toons with mercs. Then add classes once you get the hang on things.

I just returned after a very long hiatus myself and did more or less what others suggested:

I Started a new character and ran through the tutorial zone, then fired up my original character and got a few levels of merc+soloing under my belt to get a grasp of things, and then finally planning out a group to box and running through the guides on how to fire everything up and get it configured.

I advise taking the time to get the autojoins, macros for starting kissassist, and a little automation going sooner than later, so you can easily get going every play session. You can refine things as you go - but for myself - I never really got looting set up and so here I am basically mid-way through leveling and I still just manually loot like a dummy.

I only had one character gold, and the rest were f2p for quite some time and only until recently did I buy each a krono to get some auto assigned aa.

Congratulations you have one month of level 2 access. After that you'll want to buy it yourself. Start with the RGMercs Lua and if you have the cash to spare the very best way to box in my opinion is with the CTWN Plugins. But you're going to want to maintain your level two access because this is where the goodies are. And it's a bargain.

If you are a melee person, Sk, Shm, Brd, Rog, and 2 other DPS classes.

If you are a caster person, Sk, Shm, Brd, Mag, Enc, Nec is how I would go.

Remember, play what you like, or you will not keep playing.

Pally and Zerk will slot in fine. SHM, rog bst and brd as a melee group may suit you
