Ya know, I'm in this same boat. Oddly, it works locally on my laptop I two box from, but not on my main machine. The come to me button works though and I have just been using that as a workaround. They'll chase me if I don't stop and let them get too close. Same thing with /afollow. Works...

There were numerous times I've been summoned under the world because of this issue. The worst place was PoG. Couldnt kill anything because I was constantly summoned to the depths below.

Hah great suggestion! that thought (ports) crossed my mind too, but with how everything is so interconnected these days and the guild hall, that was a bit lower on my list. We're I on a TLP though, druid or wiz would be a surefire thing!
