Question - Which TS automation

Since both of the TS automation programs I'm interested are tier 2, I want to make sure i pick the right one.
My goal is primarily to raise my TS which are all over 300 to 350 so as to get max bene from the AP.
Secondary goal of far less importance is to work skills to 300 on new characters.

Can I get any advise from users of one or both programs, the macro and the Lua? Is one clearly better and why?

Of the two main ones, I would do TCN. You will get the most bang for your buck as the other is highly specialized and designed around one goal - AP. Which, IMHO, and might be the unpopular opinion, is not going to make or break you or improve your QoL any.

I went with TCN just last month. It automatically plows through all the newbie TS quests. Not sure how useful that is with level 100 Heroic Chars starting at 150 tradeskills.... but it was easy to click a button and go watch Netflix while it knocked those out. I suspect it learns a few recipes that help down the road.

Second nice thing about TCN is it will do all the trophy quests too.

I've used TCN for leveling a number of characters / skills to 300. You basically need to create sets of batch executions for yourself if you want a repeatable process, but it worked quite smoothly once I create the batches. I ran 16 characters through to 300 this way.

One flaw is that a particular batch will stop only when it executes the total number of combines in the batch. I always have to 'pad' the number of combines and waste tradeskill materials as a result. It would be nice to have it stop if you reach a trivial point as well.

The speed of combines is slower than using the native interface, so leveling up a skill is way slower. However, you can automate a batch and just watch it run ... which is far better than running around buying crap and doing manual combines

As a previous comment mentioned, the trophy automation is also wonderful. It wouldn't work for a level 100 heroic though since you start with 150 skill.

I haven't used the competing product, but I definitely don't regret buying TCN for second. It also comes with a 20 year license which is great! The creator has also been very responsive to requests and fixing things, and TCN is actively maintained.

Next up for me is raising the skills to 350. Can't comment on this since I haven't done it.

Just as a notice: Batch is meant to pump out mass quantities of items, it is not intended as a skill up. Standard crafting is best suited for that task albeit not batch.

Yes, I realize I'm not using the batch as intended. You can use standard crafting for skill ups as you indicated. The problem with that is that you can't queue up things and just let them run in sequence for standard crafting. For levelling up to 300 for a bunch of characters it was much easier for me to just queue things up in batches and let them run. I've included an example of a batch I used so you can see what I was doing. This batch will take your jewelry making to 202 (or thereabouts depending on the RNG) using only vendor materials. The downside is that it will not stop a batch if you reach the trivial, but that's ok since I don't mind wasting a few plat for simplicity.

I usually skill up on 4 or less to get to 300, but hey.. free will is what is great about one's decision making.

I skilled up on a lot fewer recipes with other TS, but this was the first batch file I did, and was more of a learning experience. With the harder TS a lot depends on what TS materials I have on hand or what I can buy in the bazaar for the least outrageous prices. In some cases I've just used one recipe if I have enough to blast through to 300. <shrug>
