Question - War vs Pal for one-group raid team

I'm currently building a 5-box (maybe 6-box eventually) in Frostreaver. My goal in each expansion is to be able to do the hardest raid content with just this one group (again, max 6 toons).

Currently, running War/Sham/Brd/Cle/Mnk. The War's defensive disc definitely helps in Velious in smoothing out damage, especially because I'm not automating anything at this time and my reaction times are slower as a result.

I feel like I've seen posts from experienced small group raiders that say that Paladin is perhaps an even better option than Warrior for later xpacs for this goal of small-manning raid content specifically. Maybe for group heals and better group-wide sustain? I'm assuming that those benefits need to outweigh the WAR's better mitigation and defensive discs.

Can anyone speak to the tradeoff in later xpacs? Ideally if you've tackled the harder content before with one or both tank types.

Gear dependency is always the tradeoff with knights vs warriors. A BIS knight can tank anything a warrior can, but a warrior in T1 group gear is sufficient for tanking raid bosses.
If you've got the plat/krono for the gear, the knight is the better option. If you plan on farming all the gear yourself, warrior is probably the better choice

There are some Paladin's in end game that are tanking the raid mobs not many it really depends on how well you know the class.. Splash heals are a big agro conductor and can really help when the cleric or shaman cant get a heal off on you... mainly all i ever see tanking endgame raid mobs past like ToV is Warrior and Shadowknight.. How deep are you into the game with the warrior? if you dont wanna worry about releveling then stick with warrior or might have to make paladin and then sit them in group til they catch up with war and then rotate out .. and you currently are running 2 healers (Technically) unless your using a dps loadout on shaman?

Warrior is max level in Velious (60), but leveling a Pally to 60 is trivial on Frostreaver. In a one group setting, I'm not sure what fights would require a pally's larger toolbox to succeed where a warrior would be insufficient.

I guess that's my question -- are there fights like that where only a PAL tank could enable the team to succeed? To be very clear, I only care about one-group raid targets, so loot bucket 3 in-era, or maybe loot bucket 2 in one xpac past.

I dont think that content that early is going to make a huge difference... If it were me id stick to war cause they are solid even to end game and its all gonna come down to preference.. if you like the whole solid defense of warrior then stick with it... i started paladin and he did well for a while then i just started finding content the paladin couldnt suceed in so i went to shadowknight... ever since i have raid tanked even things in ToB and some SoR

I would stick with War due to larger HP pool and mitigation. Also warriors hit AC cap and crit percent rate earlier and can focus on str and sta earlier. Pal tanks do shine vs undead raid targets, but there are a higher ratio of living raid targets. War would be a better choice overall rather than seeking a niche raid target that a War would still be able to tank. This is coming from someone that loves Knights over War. I have seen how my War can just survive as long as someone is healing. It is pretty wild.
