Hello!

I'm mostly posting this because I had googled to try to find the solution, and couldn't find one, so hoping google will find this thread, and it'll pop up for other people!

I had quit for about a year, and when I came back, I updated macroquest, and got "internal compiler error" complaints repeatedly in the same place (I think it was in auto login). After poking a few things (re-downloads of mq), I eventually was going to uninstall visual studio and reinstall it, but found an "update install" button in the visual studio installer. It turns out, my compiler was about 2 years out of date, and updating the compiler got mq to compile.

So yeah, returning people, do that first :)

Solution
just to reiterate, any time you see an "internal compiler error" message, you hit a compiler bug. whenever you see this always check for updates.
