Very Vanilla MQ (Test Server)

Vanilla - Very Vanilla MQ (Test Server) (9 Viewers) 3.1.52472.1

No permission to download
I'm new to playing on Test. RG is still showing patch day unavailable message from last week, is this usual for the true up patch?
What to expect on patch days?
When eq patches MQ has to be rebuilt. (you also have to patch EQ --- this way you avoid "Version Mismatch" issues)

once mq is built RG can build - we now have an automated system that rebuilds RG as soon as it is updated - which means our previous method of "let's give it a quick test" is no longer there, and sometimes there ends up being another smaller patch later to correct if something got missed - so re-check on patch days if you are having issues.

eq could change literally anything and it would require the way MQ interacts with that portion of EQ to be completely reworked. It is normally just offsets, sometimes struct changes --- with the large changes eq has been making over the past few months (updates and backend improvements) there are more things than just offset changes that are happening, so it can certainly be a lot of work for the devs.

Curious when Very Vanilla will be updated?
You'll get a web notification (if we have permission), site notification, and email (optional)

MacroQuest for Live servers:
MacroQuest for Test server

EQ patches go like this: (in theory)
2nd* tue/wed = test "real" patch
3rd* wed = live patch
4th* tue/wed = test "true up

the tue over the wed is a more recent thing (I suspect klanderso has more to do with that, and having time to ensure working stuff before the weekend and upset people - klanderso is pretty awesome)
* holidays subject to cause shifts in days or even week

test is notorious for being like "oops we forgot the 'dont crash plz' file, gotta patch again", or "woops we added +1 to crashing, we meant -1", so "on paper" it is double the patches, but very frequently ends up being more than double the work (i imagine, I'm not doing the work - I'd love to learn enough at some point to help facilitate doing so, however)

Mq itself is open source and by volunteer(s) - RG which builds and distributes that is obviously paid for.

To strictly answer the question, going by the last (many months), no, it is not "usual".
Thank you, was just trying to manage my expectations. I appreciate the hard work from the Devs.
sometimes "just a true-up" isn't actually that, and they revert or add changes
sometimes brainiac is tied up with stuff or in the middle of other stuff

as a full time and long time test player i am fully aware of the downtime at times due to getting a build up and running. i am by no means an expert and i am usually the one telling people to put on their patience pants and wait lol. i try and donate monthly for all the fun you all bring to my free time when i am not at work. please don't consider this in anyway me being pushy or demanding. i am just curious if anyone has any updates on test getting a build? were there more changes to this true up that made it not be a real "true" up and if so are you just going to wait until the next test patch to mess with it?

as always thank you all for the time you put into keeping EQ fun for myself and everyone else here in the best boxing community in Norrath!

cheers

(again no ill will intended here =) )

Thinking back over the past year or so, it feels like I can remember there being a handful of times where test took almost 2 weeks to come back. Test definitely tests our patience 😂

Yeah, I'm being patient, but I'm also fiending like a drugless druggy... not gonna lie

I can't speak for brainiac, but i do speak *with* brainiac.

test update will come soon, a lot of brain's extra time has been spent on the anti-detection methods (and conversations), unfortunately brainiac is the one who does *all* of the updates and does the lion's share of recent additions/updates/RE

just know, it isn't forgotten and ya'll are appreciated.

I can assume that "waiting a couple extra days here and there resulting in fewer baspends" is a trade any of us would make

I totally get that Test is not the priority and Brain is a very busy guy. From what I understand, without him, there is no MQ.

However, I think if it's going to be down for what might be considered longer than an "average" amount of time, a message as simple as "do not expect a build in the next X amount of days would be well received.

*edit as I wrote this before I saw Sic's comment.

I appreciate everyone's hard work. :)

mq is open source, anyone has the access to submit an update. while i get your point, i don't think brainiac is required to tell redguides or the broader mq community.

Some folks (not saying you, but i just want to clarify) get things a little mixedup/twisted with mq/rg/etc

mq is open source, by volunteers
rg is a company that packages and provides "one-stop shop" for MQ itself, as well as a repository for resources (macros, luas, plugins), not to mention the support and guides etc

me, representing RG communicates things as i get them, and I generally try not to be a pita to the primary MQ devs, because they are volunteers who do things on their free time.

Today i msg'd brain and asked if there was an eta that i could communicate, and he said "... soon" and mentioned he's been deep in anti-detection stuff.

I've been doing stuff for RG for a few years at this point, and usually when brainiac knows there will be a delay, or comes to a hiccup that is going to make a delay, he'll let someone know - but it isn't always going to be something known ahead of time.

I make it a priority to communicate things as things are known, and i appreciate the patience about it

thank you for the build brain and Co. on behalf of the test players its much appreciated! is the rg bot compiler out of batteries or diesel? usually by now it auto compiles =)

I hit the button and will get with red why it didn't autobuild

Test caught the monthly patch today. Seems to me like its a week early. Just a heads up for those surprised they can't log in.

amid all the greatness there is to playing on test the one thing all test players should accept before making it your pixel home is that the downtime will be much higher than any other. patience is a must and understanding the amount of work the rg devs put into making it fun for us all is also needed. also be sure to tip the devs on ocassion. consider it like buying someone a pint or a slice now and then!

looks like we got a build! but the clockworks inside the RG auto-updater seem to be in sleep mode! hope they wake up soon hah

thanks RG for keeping norrath fun its always worth the wait

believe it or not, that isn't helpful for anyone.

instead of trying to fix it, i'm spending additional time making this reply

Yay, thank you. Was curious if it was going to be immediately broken with another random patch today.

yes, if they're re-patching and update the .exe, it will be down until it is updated for the new patch.

are they taking test down again today?

I apologize it was a joke on the fact that EQ is typically patched the day I have the time to play.

I uninstalled the realtek audio stuff on my computer and it logged right in. Don't know what updated with it since it worked just fine pre-patch and pre-mq test update. *shrug* probably some auto-update nonsense

**EDIT**
it only worked on time for one character. still getting the same mq crashes.

**EDIT 2**
uninstalled wavelink 2.0 (elgato software) and it seems to be working for now
also unplugged the wave xlr

Reinstalled a previous version of wavelink to see if I would still get crashes. I'm still getting crashes. (I've re-uninstalled wavelink and will self manage my mic and stuff) Was there any update to the test build in how it uses/makes sounds? I have no crashes when MQ is not loaded.

Kept messing around with it. Ended up reinstalling windows. Some google searches lead me to believe that it was a windows error. Some weird drivers issue.

test came down for a patch tonight with some fixes to the architect raid and some changes to mortal coil among other things. figured id update here so the ice cream cone can be turned over before people start asking what happened to test =P

putting my patience pants on

cheers everyone
