I'm transitioning five accounts from gold to F2P. I have several months of gold left to do this. I'm assuming max AA and max level make sense. I'm also assuming transition of gear (an easy to follow guide for 120?). I'm assuming I'll need the DB coin to buy RKII how much are they? What other things need to be accounted for when doing this? Limitations to expect?

I made this transition last year. Here would be my top suggestion:
- Get the best non-prestige gear drops and AA"s for whatever expansion you're up to.
- Make sure you have a group with the right balance/utility for your playstyle. EX: While it's awesome to have sk/zerk/zerk/bard/bst/shammie...that group melts stuff dps wise...but once you drop to non-prestige play it sticks out like you wouldn't believe. Mages (when paired) are just as deadly as berzerkers in FTP...and are lot less noticeable. Also friendly to travel with
- Remember a lot of your l33t clickies/gear won't work...so you won't be able to squeak by on raid gear anymore. Make sure you have a well (non-prestige) tank, enchanter, and cleric...
- Get rid of all the prestige augs and find replaceable non-prestige ones that still allow you to maximize HDEX. HINT...whatever you're going for your class

My recommended built that's optimal for FTP is:
- War or SK, Mage, Mage, Bard, Enc, Cleric...pretty beefy/tankalicious...no stress with adds.

Welcome to the FTP world!

I have a very similar line up as you describe optimal. Thank you!
750 DB cash. I have been trying to find this item for quite some time. It's not viewable from a Gold account. I looked on a FTP and it shows up.
That will be easy to save up on each account. Thank you!

@an_image my F2P zerker outpaces my F2P mage by a lot. Especially with 2.0 so you can hit the upper ranges of crit rate with your shitty TBM non prestige type 5s. This is burst and sustained BUT with a bst and BRD in group so your mileage may vary

Mileage may vary of course...if you put effort into gearing up, epics, anguish, etc. I'm positive the Zerker could win. My focus wasn't necessarily in a true class comparison of the two classes (form); but more focused on function. A circling axe swinging zerker draws a ton more attention that 2-3 mages assisting quietly on their mounts at different intervals.

At the end of day...if the world breaks I'm pretty sure you'll still be able to multibroadcast 2-3 socials to a mage team and continue to box...whereas the same isn't true for melee classes (except rangers)

My recommendation if using 1 mage is to use 2... then use SK, then Enc... lot more pets hitting mob = more RS damage by mages... least I think that's how it works
I do not know anything on FTP melee though, so I have no good frame of reference.

Yup...you're right you'd be essentially doing a pet/alliance hit build. Maximize number of pets, get multiple alliance hits from mages off each other

You could just cancel your sub and do a /testcopy and play for free on the test server if I am not mistaken.

Not sure how you were paying....cc or Krono? But it has been verified many times that if you use Krono on your account then when you stop paying it will revert to Silver 98.5% of the time. But I also am not sure if it had to be Krono all along or if you can just switch to it for the last payment.

Not sure what Silver would help lol.

.....oh I remember now - Silver allows you to be in General chat. F2P is only newplayerchat.

I refer to these folks over at EQShadowknight for all hard work they put in this. Maybe there are some aug or armor ideas you can use.

You have me thinking a bit so I did a quick look at crap I have on stashed/on toons/baz mule......At a quick glance the non-visible items from ToL (named) are not prestige. This applies to weapons as well. Also, ToV/CoV/ToL T1 gear are not prestige.

This might not be such a bad idea. Would still have to buy expansions yearly though or just fall behind and play it when it becomes free.

I saw this as well and am thinking tol t1, Max AA, max level. Expansion each yearly when it goes on sale, August or September ish?, on sale and kick in kronos ahead of the expansion buy and get the discount on the expansions and month of AA grind.

That's not a bad plan, I'm basically doing the same. Also have a mule or two to save worthwhile loot to sell during your krono month to possibly get another krono or two worth of plat. Depending on what you are farming/looting, you can always sell in General during the non-krono months.

FTP style is awesome guys...it brings back some of the elements of risk and surprise you usually overcome w/ gear. I mean my FTP Tanks are in TOV Snowbound all around and can own and tank everyone up to TBL raid...pretty awesome way to kill time and it's totally free (beyond krono popping for aa's)...just make sure you have a plan and strategy...once you start building teams...you can lose your life quick

For enjoyment i always build a core: Tank, Enc, Cleric...then a bunch of support chars I can swap in the middle.

I have 6 accounts and 4 are ftp. I subbed them one month to get the free AAs and I am currently working on CoV content. It sounds like you already have ToL gear so I have no doubt you could continue in ToL content if needed / wanted. You do need to be ready for the HUGE downgrade on type 5 augs. You will be limited to TBM type 5's and yes they suck, but are easy for you to get. You don't need to get the upgraded rk spells if you don't want, but I am sure it would be useful. Just know that it is per toon not per account, so if you plan on running a few toons per account you will have to buy it multiple times. You said 5 accounts are going to ftp so I am assuming you will have one that will remain gold, i would make sure that it is your tank. Also keep in mind that you can always sub them to redo AAs when you need.

Agree, if you do it right it may make sense to sub the tank...but even that is unnecessary if you use CWTN Enc & Cleric. Just pop a Krono on each char on the core (tank/enc/cleric) and max aa's and they will own everything you throw at them even w/ shitty mercs...maybe a 4th mage or zerker depending on how you roll

All five finished in to the temple a few days ago.
Got several months before the accounts renew. So the DB coins will be "free". I'm going to max AA and build complete sets of the best non prestige gear while I let the subs burn out. I won't get the next expansion or spend a Kronos until next December's expansion goes on sale.

How did this go for you? Any updates or reviews looking back from starting your journey to now?

Well. It's going well. As planned. Was ahead of schedule due to good fortune. Then disaster. But just lost time is all.
Ah sorry to hear about the setback. I am looking to do something similar as well, but I wanted to follow along with how your path went to avoid a steep learning curve if possible.

Adapting to light blue and green con camps is difficult. That's if you go pure f2p from level 1. Some of my new team has to be leveled and completely separate from my other groups.

The other gold tunes are max AA and dipping toes in to see what the H2O feels like. Still feels red hot to me. Full sets of non prestige gear are also pretty much done So the big toys are idle while the little toys level themselves.

Did this transition, and honestly it went much smoother than I thought it would. But that could be because I am keeping my SK tank gold via krono.

Team is SK, CLR, BRD, BER, BER, BST. All level 120 with max AA. When each sub ran out I just swapped them to ToL T1 gear. It is all non-prestige and there is something for every slot. Got the zerkers some TBL type 5's and everyone rebought their type 3's (which I was surprised to find are not prestige), but no type 7's or weapon augs to speak of. DPS is down some (from maybe 2M to 1.6-1.7M) but not that bad, and they can still mow through ToL content without missing a beat. I now wonder why I was paying for subs in the first place.

I started an alternate FTP team from scratch after the ban scares. This one is SK, ENC, CLR, MAG, MAG, BST. All are now 120 and working on AAs using a 30-day krono grant (I broke down and bought expacs). The SK will likely remain gold, with everyone else just going back to silver. This team is surprisingly good, and every bit as survivable as my mains. I am thinking the chanter is providing better CC.

So, come on in. The water is fine. Chasing max AC / DPS used to matter to me. Now I realize it isn't required, and can do almost everything as FTP, but free. Thank you DPG for the push. But still miffed that they made the ToV earring prestige. Quest stuff like that should not be.

Did you figure out the type 7 augs? The type 5 augs are the ones bought with TBL currency at the vendor? The playing card looking ones?

Starting F2P can be tough, as others mentioned, at the very least krono the tank 110-115 ish and get the AAs, that will help immensely. The build you use for the other members of the team will be more impactful, I just switched from SK/Cler/ENC/Zerk/Rog/BST all gold to SK/Cler/ENC/Mag x3 with the SK being the only gold. With reliable alliance procs the dps hasn't dropped a whole ton for me as long as I'm fighting things higher than the decap/assassinate cap.

I use kissassist, all level 110, the zerker was a bit wild sitting 120-300k dps with big bursts over 800k. Rogue was a reliable 150-200k dps with 400k bursts and the BST sat around 140k, 250-300k bursts. All geared in ToV tier 1 max AA and TBM type 5s

With the 3 magicians, new burn set up they average 150k dps each right now (my manual sustained was 190-200k)max 110 AAs in conflagrant gear, no augs, no RK 2's. with 100-200k spikes for whoever gets the alliance proc. I still need to figure out their burn, but i've been tweaking my triggers for the alliance casts.

Overall, expect a drop in DPS, especially if you don't plan to krono for AAs. If you already got the AAs, that is going to be the difference maker.

Not really. The last XPAC with non-prestige type 7's is TBM. Started to camp them, but honestly they are not significant enough to be worth the effort.

The raidloot search does not show them, but there are several new type 7's that magicians can summon via Cauldron of Endless Abundance. Can fill 5 slots with these.

I screwed my BER over with this being hidden from gold view. Thought I had excess DBC, so I bought him the EQ dress-up pack. Whoops, now I need another month of gold to grab his rkII...

Nice add!

I started moving gear around, buying raid weps for alts and test copying last night. Ill be joining ya Sifter! - I am playing casually and just cant keep up with the 10m per krono so doesnt make any sense.. Cant enjoy other things outside EQ when i know i have a pile of kronos burning.

TBM has some F2p Weapon augs that drop from names.

If you scribe rk2 or rk3 spells while on Krono sub, will those still be usable after the Krono expires?

Bonus question: if you scribe a RK2 spell and dont have the RK1 before that, after dropping to FTP can you still cast the RK1 version? Or do you have to buy the RK1 then?

if you drop to non-active sub status without the rk2 unlocker, all of your rk2 or rk3 spells will still work, they just cast the equivalent of the rk1 version or rk2 if you have the unlocker from the DB store. Most of my boxes never purchased the rk1 spells, I used the rk2 that I had on my main from hunters and missions so I didn't waste the plat. All of their spells work fine even though they didn't purchase rk1 and don't have the unlocker.
