This guide is written primarily for druids but anyone could benefit from its content.
For many everquest players killing a dragon is a landmark, whether you do it in a big raid or as a solo performance. Hey, what do you say here, killing dragons solo? Sure, for some classes this is not a big deal anymore and for the class closest to my heart, the druid class, killing a dragon is almost like a walk in the park, that is if you choose the right dragon. The right dragon in this case, a wonderful dragon to learn on, is Yeldema.
Yeldema, something fun to kill on a rainy day
Yeldema is a level 52 warrior dragon in western wastes with about 24000 hit points. She has no area effect and doesn't dispel witch will make this adventure a lot easier. She will hit for around 219 damage and will enrage so be careful at the end of the fight. She is slowable, since we are going to do this the druid way we don't care about that, as well as snareable.
Needed to follow this guide is:
• Druid, other classes can use the info aswell
• Call of Karana or better charm spell
• Heal spell, preferable Tunares renewal or better
• Snare
• Dots
• Egress, just for safety reason
To get this adventure started you first have to get to Western wastes(WW) on Velious. The road there shouldn't be any trouble for a druid since we can egress threw Sirens grotto(SG). Once arrived in WW we go and check if Yeldema is up, her nest is in north west direction from the SG entrance at location:
• Positive 1095
• Negative 2928
When you have confirmed she is up and that no one else is there killing her, start tracking for a velium hound, the hound is going to be you partner in crime. When you have found the hound aggro it with glamour of Tunare DO NOT SNARE IT at this time since you probably have to run some to get back to the nest. Kite the angry hound to Yeldema and root it close by and thereafter snare it. Now we got all we need to kill a dragon.
At this stage its time to scout out the environment, there is a roamer called Glati that we have to make sure is far away. Yeldema is easy, Glati is doable but Yeldema and Glati together is probably to hard solo.
When you are sure that Glati is not on the way to Yeldemas nest charm the hound. Thereafter you start to buff it up with pet haste, damage shield etc. as you probably always do when having a pet. At this time you root should probably break, as soon as it does, re-charm the hound. Now the action begins.
Tell your pet to attack Yeldema while you stand back just in healing range, watch how the hound tears threw the dragon. when he got the dragon down to about 90% you start to dot with your best dots. Of course keep your pet alive with your heals, something I shouldn't have to remind you of. Don't use nukes at this point since you do not want to over-aggro you pet. Your pet will get summoned by Yeldema so be sure you are not out of range when healing.
After a few CH's on your pet Yeldema will be down to about 30%, now its time to snare. If you don't snare she might start walking towards other dragons and you might get into trouble. When Yeldema starts to run, just nuke her down.
CONGRATULATIONS You have killed your first dragon solo!!!
As soon as Yeldema is down, walk away some with your pet and tell him to stay, this is just safe distance in case of charm breaking.
Loot up and start to brag :-)
What can go wrong?
Well of course you could get that annoying Glati add, if you see Glati coming closer just egress, there is no reason to try to be a hero. Also charm might as always break, if so egress, there is no reason to try and re charm since you will be summoned by Yeldema and have 2 mobs on you and charm is to slow to cast.
What do we get when we succeed?
Well the wonderful feeling of solo a dragon for one but you will also get some loot. Remember, this is a Velious mob so the loot is not of the standard we are used of today. Still the loot can make some people happy since spells like Nature Walkers Behest is a pretty common drop.
• Dragon Meat, nice for tradeskillers
• Heavy Dragonhorn Boots
• Matchless Dragonhorn Boots
• Peerless Dragonhorn Boots
• Reinforced Dragonhorn Boots
• Worked Dragonhorn Boots
• Spell: Aegolism
• Spell: Burnout IV
• Spell: Cannibalize IV
• Spell: Divine Strength
• Spell: Gift of Insight
• Spell: Nature Walkers Behest
• Yeldema's Talisman
Good luck with your adventures and be careful out there.
Regards
Fuzzy Feet
