As the title says. Returning after a layoff and my screen freezes and I can't see anything but the frozen frame. But when I click on a command it executes it.

I run CTWN plugins (mage wiz chanter) and nothing else really. Just the normal very vanilla. Lowest background frame rate possible and lowest settings. Only trying to box 3. Didn't get a crash message I just end up terminating the process cause nothing happens.

Latest windows on a newer ASUS Zenbook laptop

this isn't much information to go by

when does it freeze?

i wonder if you did somethign weird with your framelimiter

are you running framelimiter, if so what settings? if you for some reason, limited your foreground settings to super low, you wouldn't see anything but be able to click on stuff.

if you did that you'll probably need to open your macroquest.ini in your config folder and delete/adjust the section for framelimiter - or if you are using per character, go into the servershortname_toonname.ini and delete/adjust there

other than that i would check the following:
- AV exceptions for your mq/eq/rg folder (you dont want it quarantining or scanning your files over and over)
- up to date drivers
- that your laptop is running on a *video card* and not some weird built-in vid device, my laptop recently did that after a windows / nvidia update, it actually took me a bit to figure it out, I was getting like 5 frames
- no conflicting overlays (nahimic, afterburner, overwolf, xbox overlay, discord overlay --- etc all have potential for conflicting behavior)
- you don't have ginormous log files

Thanks Sic for your answer.
It freezes at random intervals — sometimes after 20 minutes, sometimes after 2. Sometimes it’s the background guys, sometimes the front one.
The background frame limiter is set to 30 and the foreground to 60. I didn’t change it, that’s just where it’s at. I tried to change the background to 10, but it kept going back to 30.
I went into Windows Defender and gave permissions to both the Redguide folder and the EQ folder.
My laptop is pretty basic, doesn't have a dedicated video card, but I’ll check.
I closed Discord completely, and there might still be some Windows overlay stuff I need to shut down.
I’ll keep working on it and see if I eventually get a crash message.

I got it to work yesterday. There were some HDR settings that were on that I turned off, and it seems to have done the trick. I’m on my phone now, but I’ll get the exact settings and post it later today 🙏
