I've seen people float this idea a lot about a "RG Emu" and wanted to make a post to gauge interest.

A few things to keep in mind...

-Emu database is currently up to OoW. They are working on Dragons of Norrath, but due to systems changes this has been a substantial amount of work. The last update was in 2021 more or less saying they were working on it. They have been working on it since 2017, so take that as you will.
-Some features you're used to on Live are not part of Emu. No Advloot system, no new key/illusion ring system, no achievements, AA overhauls not in place.
-Game operates on Rain of Fear client, which released in 2012. So there are some limitations on what the client does versus what you may be used to.

That out of the way, knowing the above, would you still play on an OoW locked server if you were allowed free use of MQ?

How many would you play? (Important for hosting requirements)

Would there be changes to the Classic-OoW experience you'd want to see? Think along the lines of adding instances for non-instanced content (AoC), not heavily changing the game or content design.

I'm already moved across to Project Lazarus now, so far having alot of fun, like the way they've customised the world
Laz is fun. I like the fact that the content is scaled down and there's a bit more options for character progression with AAs. The decap buff is pretty fun, and it's a nice fresh take. Enjoy! It's a fun server.

What is the content up to? Seems like I read OoW is the highest on any Emu? Is that correct or do some have more?

-Taz
OoW for "legit" servers. There are custom servers that are way off the trail from live that use other zones for their custom content. Not many of those servers last very long, but there are a few long-standing emu servers with heavily customized content.

If I ever lose my main 6 from 1999-2000 era, yes I would and will. I think I rather like EQ too much to pretend I don't. DBG may not like the way I want to play (or at least the Police Players do not), but I do like the game and story originally created so long ago, that still captivates my attention. 🥰

I would definitely have a go on such a server playing 6 toons max.
That not very important that features are not implemented up to live.
The server community will be more enjoyable than live one.

Hey gang. Just to throw some fun ideas out there. Project Laza is a super fun server. The server owner is very friendly and a good friend of mine. He does allow any form of mq2 as long as no afk or warping which is not allowed and result in a perma ban.

My server is also another choice which is fully RG supported. The thing with my server is if players want to warp go at it I have my own instancing system so people do not upset others bypassing them. Do you find it enjoying to afk farm while you sleep or work? Cool have it we have a instancing system that will allow this. When it comes to everquest I have always said I will not stop players from playing the way they enjoy playing so for that my server is a free for all no box limit server. As long as you are in a instance you are perfectly fine to do what ever you wish. I do have zone pull clickies and zone repop clickies and much more QOL items. Check either of these 2 servers out you will have a blast!

I'm several days into being on Project Lazarus, had a lot of fun so far, even had a great ingame event that was actually a lot of fun, GM visited me to see how I was finding the server, really super nice players

Profusion was great time for me.

Guizmo is an absolute legend imo, keeping plugins up to date that work with RG, s/he is fantastic.

Community is a bunch of cool folks goofing around.

When I played last Eris always had awesome events going on and actively encouraged participation.

She would even come pick people up, she wanted players to come join so badly.

As mentioned by others, owner let's a lot slide but being AFK is kinda the line in the sand.

I was AFK once, fell asleep, and got in trouble. Owner was cool but stern about the situation. No permanent ban or anything, but did give a suspension for a out a week. It was fair, I was a weenie for not following the rules, and served the time.

Yeah I like the attitude they have, tbh we all know AFKing is naughty and shouldn't be done, I also like the 6 box limit, so no 54 box armies running rampant
I also like the 6 box limit + 1 bazaar vendor.

On Profusion I could box as many toons as I wanted. So I did. 4 full groups. It became less fun for me because instead of playing EverQuest, I was playing some weird management sim non stop.

I have no self control and did it because I could.

Now here I am, doing it on Test server.

Sadly Guismo is no longer working on the project he has a ton going on in real life which takes nearly all of his time. =( So I'm back riding the solo train running and building content. hah He was more of a back end server guy more so than anything else. I believe he just pulled RG plugins and redesigned those to work on fusion. We had a custom redguide build just for our server he would work on.

His warp plugin was a phenomenal help. Definitely not RG approved, and it was just pretty neat to use it on a server that allowed it. Hope he is doing well, and maybe comes back to visit from time to time.

Any plans for RG team to build an emu server themselves? Asking for a friend :P
Really the intent of this post was to gauge interest in how many would want a server like this. I know how to get a server up and running and make the adjustments for at least the PEQ database and some basic things. However, based on the replies there doesn't appear to be much interest. I wanted to ask the question about interest, while also providing some of the limitations people may not have known about the emulated servers overall.

I wasn't looking to make an RG backed or built server. But would have considered at least spinning one up on PEQ database, making slight adjustments, and paying for hosting in the event of enough interest. There are some other good servers available though as some have posted in this thread that RG Emu build works fine on. MQ use, in general, is tolerated and even encouraged on a good chunk of the servers. Warp, and especially AFK play, are really where the line starts to be drawn.

It tech is approved i had permission from redbot that if we kept it updated it could be released to the public. We just never kept it going as the server demanded more of our time than we expected. I had to go to mule and redbot to ensure they were ok with us doing the plugin. I did not want to step on toes or create issues. It def is a big help though and a nice qol fun feature.
