Ever since the last patch one of my computers has the reset device error. Everyday I have to delete the eqclient.ini to be able to log in. Anyone know of a way to fix this other then throw the pc out the window or stay logged in 24/7. Also shooting it id not acceptable answer though wouldn’t take much to convince me.

try installling dx9 and make sure graphics card drivers are up to date.

often the reset device thing, is because of screen savers or screen powering down, or if you have usb headset or speakers, and switching around with them, that really fucks up eq.

100% this is a frequent issue with things that go to sleep,.or get unplugged. Eq issue

Very frustrating have tried everything and nothing helps both computers are identical and only affects one which makes it even more puzzling worked fine until daybreak did last patch and does regardless of wether MQ running or not so definitely and EQ issue

There is a actively tracked bug report on the official forums about this, and ways to fix it (in most cases).

Just fyi - live is on dx11 so this does nothing. Actually I’m suprised because the whole reset device issue was dx9 specific…

Try a full EQ reinstall? Just copy over the toon ini files. Sometimes EQ likes to totally bugger updates. Awhile back I had constant crashes, nothing fixed it. Reinstalled EQ and ran like silk. Go figure.

DX11 Device Reset is when the video driver crashes or the PC thinks the video card is removed. Make sure your card is pushed all the way into its slot well. Have you run some sort of overclocking software on your video card? Nvidia App -> Automatically Profile card, or third party apps like MSI Afterburner, Gigabyte GPU Tweak/Armor Crate, EVGA Precision, etc....If so you could have a bad overclock maybe? Those tuners are pretty reliable but not perfect. Just another idea to check. AMD has similar but I don't know what it's called.

Might also save a copy of eqclient.ini from the good PC and compare it to the one on the bad PC after a crash and see what the difference is between the two files maybe? Maybe bad PC is crashing in the middle of a file write or something similar?

Nope.

ResetDevice is a dx9 concept. DX11 handles it completely differently. You get a ResetDevice error in dx9 if you attempt to use a device after it has been lost. This happens when you do things like change resolution. If the graphics card was loose the fuckin pc wouldn't boot. This is some sort of shim/compatibility layer that EQ has ontop of dx11 as part of their dx9 wrapper.

Knowing the actual error would be more useful, but its probably related to outdated drivers, or its attempting to use something like an integrated graphics card that has no drivers installed.

is this of any help?

I have had seen issues occur with one or both of the following

1) GeForce Experience. Uninstall it. Don't need it, and you don't want it interfering with anything. Update the driver only (and do not install GeForce Experience) from nVidia. Also, make sure windows update isn't updating your graphics card. I believe you can tell windows not to install optional updates which include those drivers. Sometimes the windows driver will overwrite what currently works from nVidia. If you cannot stop windows from doing this, then make sure peridically you check for the up to date driver directly from nVidia. Don't use the auto update software tools and all that. Do a direct download from the site and update drivers that way.

2) Antivirus. I have seen AV suddenly decide to start borking files from MQ. Make sure to add exclusions for your MQ, EQ and RG folders. After you add exclusions, try re-installing it all after to restore any tampered files.

ok I have finally found the culprit. So if I open the ini before I start and switch Fullscreen to 0 it loads, if I leave it 1 it gives me the failure. Make the file Read Only as suggested finally fixed itl Thanks Red
