Since we seem to have a general interest in our EQ EMU server here's the deal. We have mapped out and estimated a 1 year commitment to an EQ EMU server. If we are going to do this we are going to do it right. Yes things actually do cost money.

Our estimated cost per year is about $1250.00
  • $500.00 for the server hosting cost
  • $750.00 for admin and development -We have a person lined up that we will be paying monthly to administrator the server. This way we can boss them around and they will responsible for, updates, preventing outside hacking of the actual server, etc. We are talking to our developer about programming of an private login server as well.

To see if we have a true interest in the project to we are asking for donations to cover the base server hosting cost a year which is $300.00.

  1. If we raise this amount through donations we will proceed with the setup and 1 year commitment to our EQ EMU Server.
  2. If we fail to raise that amount we will assume there is not enough real interest in the project and we will refund all the donations or apply it your notaddicted subscription your choice.

Our EMU server outline.
  1. The wild west with 1 major rule. No Harassing other players
  2. Allows Macroquest2
  3. PVE Player vs Enviroment
  4. A Specific NotAddicted compile for it with active hacks.
  5. A tailored KissAssist macro version for it
  6. People are free to experiment with their own modules, hacks and macros (No crashing the server lol)
  7. 6 accounts per NotAddicted member
  8. Reduced spawn timers and increased spawn rate for named mobs
  9. See rule #1

Requirements active NotAddicted subscription
A specific older Everquest Expansion estimated cost $20. We will have more information on what expansion and where it is available at a later date.

Anychance the EXP rate will be more like ZEK and less like other live servers?

Is there a plan for what expansion this will go up to yet?

As I understand the plan it will be as close to standard server as possible through the underfoot expansion.
 
Right now we are looking at Hot Zones for Bonus Exp and I believe the EQ EMU is up to Underfoot

Losing my raid geared warrior is going to be a tough enough pill to swallow, but I will have to manage. Starting entirely over on 6 toons finding spells/discs with no plat, a limited bazaar, and tiny player base could prove extremely frustrating. Any idea what server customization you are leaning towards or what is even available? Or is that a can of worms you dont want to open publicly right now? Lol
 
Customization will be minimal at first. We plan to have a slight accelerated xp bonus maybe 25% and also hot zones. Greater chance on named spawning and accelerated spawn times. The rest will be player driven this is a learning and evolving process.

I just learned that EQEmus do not have Mercs they have bots. i am still exploring the full impact of that.

I have jumped onto a few EQemus and saw things I liked. EQTitan for instance has npc classes like chanters, shammys, and druids in the guild lobby you can request buffs from. I really liked that idea. So as the sever evolves time will tell but we are trying to keep it from getting to crazy so those that want to write macros like myself for the live servers can still do so.
 
Just an update:
I have leased and setup the web server and domain name we will be using.

A test emulator has been setup and we are testing that.now. When the bugs are worked out we will be moving it to the web server.
The process right now is slow due to work and holidays so please bear with us. I don't have a ETA right now of when it will be up and running but hopefully soon as in the nest week or 2. I will keep you updated.
 
Any chance at all for something like SOE's Head Start Character, where you could start a character at a given level, 51 for Sony, with all spells and skills? Honestly, the thought of the amount of time one would spend running around to even find the most basic spells and constantly updating macros. I'm one of many I'm sure who would be using all 6 available accounts, and I just feel like this would take a ton of time. Getting started at level 1 just seems a very daunting task at first or maybe I'm just worrying too much.
 
I was wondering ... how popular would using FV style loot rules be?. I honestly never understood the need for so many things to be no drop.

I am definitely going to explore having all vendor spells available in PoK

All items tradable is a possibility.
 
FV rules + some mods, maybe all spells are automatically added to chars? (head start type templates) would be a big benefit with low population.

I fully support FV rules for no trade items.

I support "loot only" and "faction required" spells availible on POK or perhaps Abysmal Sea vender. A little effort to get spells isn't terrible bad. Or at least a significant increase in research drops to make tradeskilling easier.

One of the problems I have with live EQ is the idea of rare items or spawns. That concept probable cuases a large amount of the griefing in the game. Seems to me mobs and items that everyone wants / needs should be availible to everyone - not just the lucky few.
