Hi Everyone,

I am another random player that returned after 10 years, i didnt box before, and even i did, i manual it all the way...so i am a true n00b to EQ and to Box.

Watching these helper make me have the guts to get back (more human friendly to play around, just my 2cp)...and i am thinking to make a little box army with 3-4 chars around.

After reading some guides, i am planning to roll a SK, Bard, Bst and maybe zerker...

1) Is this a good combo, travelling seem to be an issue and healer would only comes from merc ... Will these become a real issue, i am planning to do those group tasks of old content, and maybe some old raid...

2) I am currently level 1, is the very vanilla will require a monthly subscription and it will include all the related support right ? (except some custom made helper with the price tag).

3) Is this very vanilla enough to support to run these group to xp and aa while i am in front of the computer on and off (work problem!)

4) Is there any mac around that could help leveling up the toons at earlier level as well, i tried to search but no luck, please share some keyboards if you have resolved for you ;)

Seem getting so much questions here, thanks very much for your patience and reading to here, hehe.

welcome back and to redguides!
1. aye good start - imo you really want real deal toons for the holy-trinity - tank, heals dps --- do you have sk and bard --- toss a cleric of shm in there and golden. keep in mind enjoying your crew is way more important than anything else like min-maxing or what is the flavor of the month

2. aye lvl 2 will allow you to download the VV compile and all the VV goodness

3. yes absolutely, we don't recommend or support AFK gaming as this is a very big no-no from dbg's perspective, but plenty are dual tasking like working or doin other stuff

4, aye, many - things like ihc or kissassist, or muleassist or the premium cwtn plugins all start at lvl 1 - kissassist is something many folks are familiar with, and its a real good place to start getting involved as there are so many folks who are familiar with it and able to get you assistance as needed.

Definitely stop by our discord several of us are there all around the clock just hanging out, talking eq/boxing, and doing all things VV

@Sic as always, nailed this one.

1. They’ve recently changed the healer merc mechanics. I believe they know use their remedy spells and more level appropriate spell lineups, so they might be more useful now. Id love to hear from someone who has tested them in action

Most already covered, but a few additional things to note.

Traveling without a porting class is really not as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Bard has fastest run speed for entire group and mq2 makes follow commands that actually work very well. Once you get into relatively new zones, at most you're only a handful of zones over from guild hall ports (or PoK).

Healer mercs can get you through all of the group content in the game, save for some specific achievements. They're not the best at it, but they can get you through - That being said, you mentioned wanting to do older raids. Pretty much all modern raids are instances and mercs are not allowed inside raid instances. So that's something to keep in mind when considering whether you want merc to cover all your heals.

I'm new here myself, but I'm basically kicking myself for not getting level 2 a long time ago now that I have it. If you're on the fence, try one month no subscription (it's what I did, paid with a krono). I will not be letting my level 2 lapse for the foreseeable future.

Thanks all for your swift reply, and so i could have 2 clr as healer when i takes on some task for progression, and that should not be problem.

Do they cure everything like a regular clr too pls?

Bummer...that mean i need to roll some real healer, even though i think i could roll it with the new level and gear...
I could probably use some heal still....might needed to box up to 5 or 6 crew then...i really wanted to play some plate class and pet class (as i never did before)....

Keep in mind the difference people talk about with mercs. They are great at lower levels. When you get around level 85 you really need to go All Access to get the best merc - THE J5 - simple quest in Feerrot.

My healer merc does well in Frontier Mountains against named as does my tank merc but I think a lot of players find them not as useful in levels higher than 110.

My biggest complaint is they won't battle rez so I carry tokens of resurection I get from loyalty merchant. But I really dislike playing healers like clerics or druids so most of my healer characters sit unused.

I think the sound of your line up is good.

Thanks, that help explained a bit, I was a little worried when they said raid don’t allow merc, so how they classify raid if I am going back to potime today with My over 90 lv toons. Is it still consider as a raid?

Also, what is the token of Rez and loyalty merchant pls? Is it an experience Rez that can be done by everyone, like that dragon stick from casino, it is very expensive isn’t it?

@Ceci0724 welcome to redguides, welcome back to EQ, and welcome to world of assisted boxing!

I see you mention ideas of: "SK, Bard, Bst and maybe zerker. "

Let me recap a basic for you.

On your own, there is you - solo.
A solo player, can have a merc accompany them. A tank? A Healer? A DPS? Your choice, of depending on your main character. That gets branded as "molo", or "moloing"

If you rememer EQ of old, a group can be up to six characters.
You could duo, with two player characters (PC) and two mercs, then to group limit of 3 PC 3 mercs.
Or, drop merc and go with 4 PC, drop another merc for 5 PC, drop all merc and have 6 PC.

Another ballpark figure people use as a guide, is for each PC to run on the computer you need about 1GB of ram.
If you are running windows 10 and the computer has 8GB of ram, then you can run a 6 PC box group with VV / MQ2. (cpu/gpu also factor a bit, but memory can be the first constraint).

Now that the scene is set, on one computer you can run a whole group.
You drive a character of your choice, and the other 5 characters are boxed with VV/MQ2 in the background to work as a team.
DPS will assist at your defined % of mob hp. CC will try and mez. Healers try and keep characters alive. Tanks try to hold aggro etc.
Characters will also do things like buffs, respawn pets if they are lost too.

As mentioned by the guys in above posts, there are the views of core group - tank, healer, dps.
You need to think over what character class you like to play the most, what race do you want to look at on screen. Then start adding to that, with a compliment of others. To whch we are recommending you have a tank, healer and dps covered as player characters; even if you are thinking of playing an enchanter or a bard etc yourself. ( playing yourself, as in, the EQ window that is in the foreground, that you will be playing - moving the character around and interacting with the game world, assisted by your boxed VV characters. Issuing orders to the group from ).

The last things that come to mind would be, try it out, just do it.
If something isnt quite working how you would like, change it up, until you find what works best for you.

The forums are here to find answers to questions you have.

Regards and Best Wishes

As far as raids go - mercs are not allowed on them but any of the old world raids are fairly easy now days. I solo Anguish to help people get their epic parts. All you need for that one is 6 people - offline is ok, alts are ok, any level is ok so long as not trying to get into the zone. I don't have a healer for that one at all other than my ranger heals. So I would say up to the last 3 expansions you can raid ok but the more recent ones are harder.

The Token of Rez is a rez coin anyone can use, anytime and it will 96% rez your target. You can buy them with loyalty tokens - about 85 tokens. There are two loyalty merchants, one in POK and one in Sunrise Hills.

You earn loyalty automatically. Once your account is a year old you will earn the most for the type of account you have. All Access and Silver accounts earn 120 tokens a week. F2P earns 30. It caps at 5760 for All Access/Silver and 1440 for F2P. You cannot earn partial amounts or more than your cap. So if your at 5700 and you earn 120 then you will not get the award for that week since it would put you over.

That is another reason people try to recover old accounts. Those accounts will have max earning.

Thanks, all these explained, maybe i should try to deal with the CS then...these tokens are really amazing...

While you soloéd Anguish with only Rng heal also amazed me... WOW

HI All

Some small update again, so i moved to test to try out my setting, the autologin is something i must gives it a thumb up, well thought good product!
I got following questions...some maybe too simple, too basic for all of you, these are the real questions that i encountered and need your input....
Really appreciate the tips from all experienced user here...

**Edit all toons are using the lv 25 ini from the KA resources**

1) How do you all do the invite before the game start?
2) is the Kissassist saved, or i have to input that every time for every toon?
3) i tried to do the come to me/follow button in the group window, but it is not responding, anyway, the /follow seem working better now with MQ.
4) ***big problem*** the pull works fine but my sk (set as tank) is not tagging the target from the group, and not doing anything, while when i manually target the it hit and kill the same mob till its dead...and standstill....while there are 2-3 mobs at the camp!

And then i wiped...lol and kind of losing morale to do the running again (i bound all char at pok, while some pop back at pok, some pop back at CR (why!!?))

Yeah, thats my eq tour before the Saturday, guess i will do better in Saturday after reading more guide and your feedback!

Feel free to jump in and teach me!

Thanks!

If its not working you are not connected to eqbc, did you start the server?
check out the eqbc video there

Thanks, things work MUCH MUCH better after watching the eqbc and KA ini video...

The speed was pretty slow at the start, which i found out is the due to the dru and clr keep spending their mana on buffing. ***careful here, as dry and clear buff overwrite each other, they will keep bugging and spent all their mana!!***

Also, the efficiency become much better after i fill the 5th and 6th slot with merc.

They got killa power.

Now my teams leveled from 25 to 40 in 3 hours! superb speed compare to the old days! (leveling in blight till 40 and now moved to Mesa...with the lv 25 gear still lol)
***stick to those hot ones turnout Mesa XP worse than blight***
Just where can you find the weapon for these low level toons?
POK have a NPC selling some low level gear but all are ring, neck or cloak...i think weapon should be the most important part here?

For the lower levels defiant weapons are probably your best choice. You can try the bazaar for some if you have any pp otherwise it will be the luck of the draw on what drops.

OKay some update again as it maybe useful for others one day.

So i leveled from 25 till 44 in blight, moving between cat, bees and skele
Then i gear up and buy spell for next few level with /mac scribe 46 60 in pok (prepare very big bag if you are leveling dru and wiz)

And then i move to Acrylia forest, the cave to zone into the Acrylia Cave, the outer part are crazy, mobs will all rush to you, so any camp will works just fine.
Around level 52 i moved into it and leveled till 58, then i get into the inner sanctum, camping the main room, its can be reached through a small room at the southern most of the room, and you can find the guide at almar guide.
The inner sanctum is actually easier than outer part, mobs aggro range are MUCH MUCH smaller, just you may run out of mobs, so you will need to make some change on the ini to extend the camp.
The MQ2NAV is amazing here!

Then i stick till around 63...and gearup again and moved to Baston of thunder, levelup in the top floor, killing everything till 68 and then moved to Dragonscale hill for the farm....its VERY easy, i could level up to 80 here...

And now i am kind of struck again, as i have another level Wiz that can help me murder anything, it is killing mob under 2-3 cast, i dono how to setup properly for the leveling.

If i move to high level area, bad pull may get my crew killed cept the wiz,

If i stick to low level area, the pull isnt very as efficient as farm.

Any thought to share please, folk?

Get to 75, then start running gribbles dead hills tasks. It’s mind numbingly boring but the absolute best gearing and levelling path all the way to 100. I believe there’s a macro somewhere here that will run them for you.

Alternately you could get to 80 and farm OMMs to gear and level up (also pretty decent plat, unless they have nerfed it) you get 2k plat per run per chararacter. You can run each task in under 30 mins and there are three tasks. Check out the link below for more info

After you’re done with OMMs, you can move into HoT and gear up to the next gear level there.

You can also hit the daily franklin teek hot zones for some good places to farm and a decent hit to exp (jewel of atiki is a rocking lesson burn zone when it’s the hot zone at 75 btw) teeks brother also gives you heroic daily tasks from (I think) 75 plus that are very beneficial for an exp and currency boost. You can find both teek brothers just outside the guild lobby entrance in pok.

One thing is for sure though, whichever path you choose, you’re going to have to get on top of the gear curve to continue on.
