Hey folks,
I’m pretty new around here and just starting to mess around with MQ. Been playing EverQuest off and on since 98, but finally decided it was time to see what this side of the game is all about. I’m still learning the ropes, so any tips or tricks are welcome. Mostly just happy that EverQuest still exists and I can check out MQ. Currently levelSHD, MNK, SHM, BER, BST and BRD.

Mod edit: please don't post easy ways for people to find you in game

You'll need level two to use the goodies like the CTWN Plugins or RGMercs Lua. Are you running a free group or paid?

Welcome!

Once you buy your subscription to RedGuides, you can see all th tools you will have at your disposal, plus the great MQ compile they use here. MQ itself is FREE, non connected to RedGuides, but its also quite a pain to self compile, plus is NOT the VeryVanilla version used with all the RedGuides awesome sauce. If you are hesitant, I suggest try a one month sub. You can access all level 2 things. You can then choose to see what you like/dislike and if you want to move on to some paid tools not included with normal Sub. No extra paid service is needed, they are just player created tools that are very nice, but RG provides everything you need/want built in. Give it a shot. The forums will open up a world of new info as well, with level 2. I was very hesitant to make the choice, but now kick myself in the butt for not having done it sooner.

So, You're new/returning to RedGuides/VeryVanilla and MQ?

New to all of this. What's the difference between MQ 2 and very vanilla?

MQ2, MacroQuest2, was/is the name of the older no longer used version. Very Vanilla is a 'flavor', customized version of Macroquest for RedGuides only. It has better safety protocols and major hacks removed (such as warping as an example). The Redguides members and staff have since a while now created a better version called MacroQuest or just MQ. Occasionally you will see it referred to as Next or MQ Next..just its older nickname.

A majority of the users come to RedGuides and subscribe so they can use the RedGuides launcher and their "build" of MQ (the software platform that helps add QoL features) called VeryVanilla. They have builds for EMU, Live, and TEST.

The VeryVanilla build comes with a bunch of plugins that extend MQ even further and provide automation functions.

RGMercs is one of those plugins that help your boxed toons automate things, like moving, pulling, buffing, healing, ect.

Dude thanks so much for the understanding

Thank you for your input. It's crazy to think this has been around for so long and I'm just now seeing it.

I've been using Redguides\Kissassist for a short little while now and didn't know about RGMercs (I actually thought it was some sort of extended controls for mercs based on the name 😅 ) - one question in that regard; does it supplant kissassist and the configurations I've made via those individual kissassist ini files? looking at the RGMercs Lua config files and the screenshots it does seem like that's possibly the case.

all the various automation suites are independent - rgmercs config has nothing to do with kiss, etc

RGMercs has built-in default class configs, you use a combination of toggle settings to control what those configs do or don't use, and have the option to make a copy of those files for customization if the defaults don't suit. Config entries are based on spell lists that automatically update as you scribe new spells.

It is a wholly separate system, as Sic stated.
