EQ Emulator Server List

  • Meets Redbot's guidelines (MQ-friendly, box-limits, afk, social content (intended or designed for more than one person, teaming up is a goal). No active hacks (e.g, warp).
    • Project Lazarus - OoW with heavy custom endgame content. 6-box. Raids tuned for 4-6 groups at release. Active Development.
    • EQ Might - DoN+ with heavy custom content... solo, duo, and group progression paths. 12-box limit, but 1-6 accounts are all viable. Some endgame content tuned for 18-24. Active Development.
    • Ascendant - Solo/Duo friendly server, 3-box max, cross-class AA. Incentivized grouping with higher end raid content more accessible with groups.

  • No AFK/Warp
    • EQ Titan - Customized OoW era. Most seem to box 5+ groups.
    • EZ Server - Customized, no exact era. Boxing server, most running 18+ characters.
    • The Dark Exile - GoD - 6+ box. MQ recommended.
    • The Hidden Forest - Customized, no exact era. 24-box. Likely doable with 6-12 nowadays. No development noted in some time.

  • AFK, No Warp:
    • Aegis of Norrath - PoP era. No box limit. Rebalanced customish content/progression.

  • Anything goes (AFK allowed, some actives like warp may be allowed):
    • EQ ProFusion - No box limit, but solo-friendly. Custom Content. Warping only allowed for travel. Active Development.
    • Convergence - Rebalanced Legit. Custom Itemization. Raid Progression tuned for 54 (Cap: 72). Most seem to play 36-54. Active Development.

Algarnote: This is a wiki post, but I am happy to update if you can provide enough details to categorize something! There are definitely a few missing.

Mod note: RG as a company/entity do not have plans to host/own/run an EMU server, but we are happy to recommend/support/encourage EMU servers that promote MQ/RG usage

ProjectEQ lets you box up to 54 - AFK/Warping/NoDelay/Etc. is against their rules and so is any version of MQ besides the one they provide with E3 which is like KA in some ways. No enhanced map with NPCs on that MQ

Project Lazarus lets you box 6 - AFK/Warping/NoDelay/Etc. is against their rules. Most use the MQ with E3 from ProjectEQ but they allow CWTN and our Emu MQ.

I think a RG Emu would be a great idea at some point given how DB has recently swung the hammer and announced they would continue to do so. Perhaps one day getting an emulation of EQ up to FTP expansion offerings!

I highly recommend if you want to 54x+ box on EMU to setup your own server. It will save so many headaches when you actually want to raid kill something.

The best AFK server you'll find is one you setup yourself using the latest PEQ Build available on Emu. You can set your own server up. That will be live equivalent through Omens. The client is RoF2 if you use it, but that doesn't include NPC data or everything through ROF. That's built through the database which is what they are working on with PEQ. It's moving to DoN next. You can make your own tweaks to NPC strength, drop rates, whatever, to make this fit what you're looking for. If you're feeling ambitious you can create your own spawns and such, or even thematically change a zone. Example, an old emu server I used to help with I turned Plane of Growth into a half half faction war between followers of Tunare and Innoruuk. There's a lot you can edit with the database so you're really only limited by your creativity (and time, and interest in learning).

One thing to note with Emu is the popular flavor of MQ2 is the E3 variant. Many of these servers will have discussions and resources surrounding E3 usage and in my experience users with CWTN or Kiss are rare. E3 is a great alternative and makes sense, but requires some massaging of ini files and is not as load and play as RG is.

I've tried most of these servers.

Enine's - Fun custom server, 6 box is effectively what you'd want to get the most out of it.

Lazarus - Omens legit, kind of. This server allows a lot of out of era spells and AA and has some custom ones. Decap, for example, is available even though the cap isn't 80s. It's a buff that adds a big proc. Content tuned for 2-3 groups in raids. So this is a great option for seeing through Omens with 6 with some added player power. It is free trade but gear past Luclin is attunable. This is probably the best middle ground between legit and custom by emulating a live like environment with plenty of QoL. If you're into the Omens lock this would be if you don't mind some customization. MQ2 is fine except AFK.

Dark Exile - Kind of an 8 Box TLP, you're progression locked through GoD. This is a challenging server and will take some time. It's got some QoL, but not as customized. MQ is fine.

EZ Server - Very heavily customized, this is not relatable to live. But is fun on its own right. MQ2 is a necessity on this server but it does have restrictions. No AFK, Warp etc. GM is active and they do monitor exploits. Solid community. Server is very grind oriented and if you're a spreadsheet and grind person this is the server you want. 12-18 boxing is honestly a must if you want to effectively progress past the middle tiers, in my opinion.

Hidden Forest - Heavily customized, and has some fun raid tiers. MQ is allowed, but no AFK or Warp. This server is great if you want to hit some nostalgic targets then move into more customized content later. T8+ breaks the mold of using old EQ raids and introduces more unique things to this server. Most of the zones used are PoP or lower. This server is somewhat pay to win as it has an extensive donor system that can really adjust your player power and QoL. If you want to box heavy and see custom content don't let the stagnancy or the population dissuade you. It's fun to work through for the first time and it will all be new to you.

Imperium - 2 Box, no MQ (you don't need it). Tuned for two, lots of custom content. Has bots (emu version of mercs, requires a bit of a learning curve). Fun to work through the content here and has a good community. IS Boxer is fine. The 2 box limit is IP enforced similar to truebox on live.

Shards - Heavy custom, no MQ, very toned down version of the game in terms of stats and numbers. Introduces a lot of its own systems that hold up decently. Has leaderboards. Just started doing seasonal content, which really just translates to it's iteration of the live TLP relating to their content.

Dreadbox - Boxable (maybe an IP limit) but doable solo. MQ fine, allows warp even. Can do this server with some classes without boxing at all. Heavy custom server and still releasing new tiers. Easy to work through quickly.

Plenty of others. But just providing some additional to a few on your list that I can think of off the top of my head.

Edits - Lots of typos, autocorrects from phone.

I'd love a RG emu server. I thought there was one once upon a time called Red Planet.

Could give RG more opportunity to test and tweak it's emu compile in an environment all it own, without the risk of breaking another servers rules.

I've become rather fond of Wayfarer's Haven. Great community there. They don't allow MQ2, but that's fine. I've tried ixiquest and didn't really like it. Tried PEQ and was able to level insanely fast and then learned that there were people boxing 50+ toons at once to do things and that kinda killed it for me. I don't mind boxing, but it should be limited based on the population of the server.

Great thread !

I like to box and I am not going to do it with just Alt-Tab, MQ-RedGuides is a must for me.

I am going to try some of these for sure.

Thanks people ....

Dark Exile: Like L8erGator said, its 8 box.
Works well with cwtn's because no big modifications on spells, but you cant box 8 because you whould need raid delegate assist and that doesent work until 18 ppl in the raid.
Content tuning to 1 group is really well done.

I would like to add EqMight to the list. Features.
It is a 6 or 9 box server that built around completing raids at that size.
There is solo challenges as well. With it's own currency system.

Quillmane Server is a TLP style boxing friendly (and MQ2) server with Agent of Changes and bosses with Mitigation of the Mighty, just launched like 4-5 days ago so can still get the goodies like Guise of the Deceiver and stuff.

I started leveling there with the Redguides Emu version and kiss. Works great. Got to level 10 on the first day!

Can 6 box right now but looks like it may get increased in a few weeks to 12 - think it will scale up gradually.

turns out you don't need too much to spin up your own server, I did that, now I write scripts to automate the gameplay for myself. it's fun.

if you see it up ever, grok is a server that you are free to afk play, do whatever on. I just don't keep the server up often.

MQ Allowed, AFK Allowed, No warp - Aegis of Norrath - Up to 18box, Velious expansion for a while longer (legacy items still active), up to PoP eventually - AAs from future expansions are available which gives a nice power boost, some QoL improvements (Ectunnel hub, with some translocations, more info in Discord)

What is the highest level you can get to on an emu server ?
It depends on the server. The highest "live equivalent" expansion currently is Dragons of Norrath, so 70. But there are servers with custom level ranges that include custom spells where the max may be higher or lower. But strictly mirroring EQ Live, 70.

Did anyone mention Convergence? It may be one of the best options and where I would start if I played EMU.
I was actually coming here to do just that. I have been playing on Convergence for about 2 weeks after switching from might. I am boxing 3 groups right now and plan on doing more as i can create accounts i. Dont believe there is an IP limit, and you can fully AFK, in fact everyone there will help you get set up if you arent. Lots of old folks from Ragefire/Lockjaw there too

That is correct, no limit on boxes on Convergence, multiple people running 54. A few running 72, and many more running between 6 and 30.

All forms of MQ is accepted. Active hacks, including warp, are not policed if that’s your cup of tea. We do however reserve the right to call you a big fat noob if you use actives.

Instances of most leveling zones and all raid zones are in, revamped to raids through VP are completed, including challenge mode VP. Velious release in the near future.

I never really understood things like warping. At that point are you even playing a game to enjoy it?

This one has bee updated to 24 box, and PoP is out now. Also it is good to note, leveling in a raid is just fine.

Looks like @eqtrader74 isn't updating this list. My server RNGP is MQ & AFK Friendly with no box limit, just FYI. :hfive:

I've heard great things about Shelter Of The Banned.
This server gets better everyday. Its just old fashioned EQ but with MQ and some tasteful convenience items added. There's no crazy mechanics, no easy mode, I am a big fan. I would recommend this server to anyone looking for a live-like experience but with MQ!

Shelter Of The Banned. Name is spot on!

if you run your own server how are you getting redguides or mq2 in general to work with it? sorry if a stupid question. im just looking for an alternative to test since it doesnt get updated like live does.

btw.... dont flame me.... im headed to the emu server section to start learning

There is an emu flavor of Redguide's Very Vanilla.

You should always check the emu server's rules to make sure that they are good with MQ and don't have any rules against our brand of MQ. For example, The Heroes' Journey incorporates some of their own MQ features into their build but they don't allow anything more. Very Vanilla won't work with that emu server and you'll get no help here in trying to get it to work.

On the other end, Project Lazarus and Shelter of the Banned are good with MQ and Very Vanilla Emu works great on those ones. Of course, mileage may vary depending on which emu server interests you.

Updated the top post with some of the stuff people have mentioned, but, I am not great at manipulating lists with this forum thingie. Doesn't seem to like my attempts at spacing/etc.

Also its a wiki post so we can do the thing

Edit: Also removed server pop counts as you can find that at eqemulator.org server list whenever, those numbers were a couple years out of date I think.

There's probably some liability for RedGuides if they ran their own emu server. I'd imagine the copyright thing for emu is somewhat of a grey area but since RG is a for profit enterprise, DBG would have a juicy target to make an example of if they wanted. Considering that this is a hub of filthy MQ users and on the associated site, RMT... they'd likely get giant hard ons at the idea of suing RG into oblivion.

Totally understandable why RG doesn't officially want its own emu. This is for the greater good!

Just play on existing emu servers and be happy with that ;)
