This is a good question.. I recently transferred a char to another account (clean account) and ran into the same problem. I'm hoping DBG isn't forcing us to set SQA now.

I recently few weeks ago created four new accounts and did not set a security question. After a few days I could not log into without a requirement for setting they SQ. I was able to go back to the original e-mail they sent when I first created the account and by clicking that link to verify e-mail address avoid the SQ requirement. I tried later to create an account without giving an email address even but was unable to do so.
Eek, I hope they don't do this to existing accounts. I don't really know what I set all the emails to on several of my box accounts.

So I went and made an account, I was able to make an account with a throwaway email @ https://www.guerrillamail.com and I didnt have to set secret question/answer but you cant change the email again without setting the secret question. So I guess for new clean accounts the cleanest you will get them is by making gmail accounts to go along with the account?
I create them all the time CLEAN but no way in hell I am posting that in level 1, the entire internet can see level 1....
You can do it, I did it just 2 days ago, clean. You just have to follow certain steps..... Not steps I will speak of in level 1 though

Lol, um, you are missing the point. He said it was 'public' on the intarwebz. Anything we can keep close to our chest the longer it takes DB to nerf it... And it's good to point out that there is level 2, and that it contains things that make upgrading worth it. If you yourself are not level 2, than this was nothing more than a waah.
Please understand that if something is open to the web that it greatly increases the likelihood of a nerf, sorry I don't want to be a pain and I am sure not an elitist. But if you are reading this and you are not level 2 then you are here to leach and not support this site. If everyone did that then there would be no site at all for you to leech off of. I am happy and proud to support this site on a game that is 16 years old and still running! Level 2 is not Elitist, its safer. I will actually start a thread in level 2 about how to do this exact thing so that I am sharing with the people. Thanks...

In my experience if you use the patcher you're prompted every time. If you go to log in through the way isboxer does it, you're never prompted.

I have always done your method 1. First time through patcher, then rest through isboxer.
In my personal experience if you make the account and then wait a few days to login you're prompted to verify the email instead of with "I agree". If you make the account and immediately go through the patcher you're gold. Sometimes when I am making a new 6 box i wont login until I make all the accounts, so the first two I made get logged in 3 days later, which usually gets me the prompt.

If you verify the email address but never set the SQ/A, add a name, or use a CC is the account still considered CLEAN?

i just made a bunch of new accounts and they are as clean as i have ever made them
literally all you have to do from the launcher is hit accept. i didnt even press play on the launcher after i hit accept. i hit accept then opened up a wineq client and went right in.
before i hit accept i tried logging in straight from wineq after account creation and it was giving me some bogus message "This login requires a valid EverQuest Subscription. Please make sure you have signed up for this via the billing option".

I've been doing it slightly differently because generally speaking(not EQ but any website) unverified accounts are considered the riskiest for the site owner and would be first to go in any kind of purge.
I have a range of domains that I use to autoforward e-mail to my real e-mail.
So what I do is this:
1. Fill out the bare minimum to register account including random name @ e-mail forwarder
2. Click on Verify link from the e-mail that DBG sends (this works about 95% of time, if Verify link does not arrive within 60 seconds, asking for it again will trigger Secret Question setting, so might as well make a new account)
3. Log in through Launcher, make newbie
From then on bypass Launcher with WinEQ, so my accounts have a verified and valid e-mail that is unique, but no SQ set.
I did not know that using any kind of key would let you bypass Launcher completely, nice tip!
PS Do not forget about the 2 new accounts per IP per day limit.

Just FYI: I tried to log into an account I had created clean and this evening it wont let me access it without verifying the email addy. At acct creation I had just entered a bogus gmail since it wouldn't let me create the account without at least putting something in the email box.
I'm gonna have to go back, put in a new throw away email, and verify it. Which I can't do without setting SQ/A. Argh I just lost a heroic acct!
Now, it turns out, and this could be my problem, get this, the bogus addy I made up actually exists. I found out when I tried to create it for real tonight.

Has anyone figured out hot to get TBM while maintaining a 'clean' account?
Without keys, any method of obtaining TBM through DB requires SQ/A and CC. Yeah you could do a 'gift' card, but even that will dirty the account.
I've got a bunch of toons stuck at lvl 100. I thought I would at least be able to get the AA's and EXP while I figured it out but nope, they be stuck. I wonder if krono-ing them would allow me to advance without TBM...

Please refresh my memory; I tried to buy TBM from a gold acct that already had it last night and no where in the selection process was there an option to buy basic TBM since I already had it. Only thing I could see was 'upgrading' my version of it (i.e. Collectors Edition etc). I read a post (DB Forums) where someone said the option to gift or buy key was at the bottom, but I never found it. Another post pasted a response from DB where they claimed 'gifting' was not an option and they suggested simply giving your friend the money to buy it haha, I almost choked on that one.
WTS Clean account, 100 war, not geared, not 105, not AA'd, but I will give you the money to buy TBM lolol.

Using kronos will allow you to gain AA's just like a paid account, but only while the kronos is active, ei 30 days. I've no idea how it might effect a clean account. I've been buying kronos from ourplat.com with no problems, even during the recent ban fiasco.
Ok So here is what I see, they temporarily removed the ability to buy Gift Keys from the main website. They invalidated all steam keys BUT if you have any of the original BETA keys they still work. I just made a fresh clean account and put TBM on it with a beta key and it worked perfect. Sad thing is I only have 2 more beta keys and then those are all gone....
