I have been off-and-on with Live for the better part of 25 years and have never considered a TLP until Frostreaver went live. So, I have a 3 box and holy moly I forgot how incredibly fun and also incredibly stressful those first few years were! Anyway, I have a PAL/DRU/BRD I started and up to level 20 and struggling to source attainable gear without having to buy Krono and buy gear from the farmers. What is the take here on simply what's available options for tanks? Are there any level 20-40 quests with worthy tank gear to supplement until I can get smithing and jewel crafting maxed? Those are both plat sinks ... was considering buying Krono to sell to feed my tradeskilling nut not sure if that is even worth it.

Thanks!

I think in classic thats fine plate range, and then the jewelry to top it off.

Rather than hunt specifically for that (or the plat to buy/make it) I’d look for some niche items that your group can take on that sells

My first tank wore banded (self-crafted) until 60, except for whatever random drops I got along the way. It was also a paladin with a druid as healer, but I did have a full group.

Keep in mind that random loot means you can just find any named camp wherever you want to level and you have a chance at loot from similar level named in the same era. That's all I did to get the occasional upgrades along the way, but my group was still mostly naked by the time I hit 60.

Tradeskills are going to be a huge money sink for very little benefit. If you're planning to raid, the HPs/Resist jewelry is nice, but you just don't need any of it the for the group game. There are people with a 2 month head start on you in tradeskilling, so you have very little chance of making your money back. Only do it for fun, knowing that it'll never pay off.

IF you're going to spend real money, I think you'd be better off spending krono on subs to fill out your group instead of selling it for plat. You level so fast with a full group that you'll be 60 before the first month is up, and you'll still have time to farm for more krono or whatever.

If you don't want to spend any money, just switch the bard for an enchanter. Enchanter on TLP is a win button. It'll still be slower than a full group, but enchanter charm will carry a 3 box to max level np.
