I will start off by saying, this is a very hard thing to do, i do it at lvl 30 and still have a hard time.

1. Buy plenty of SoW and Invis potions.
2. Run to Umbral Plaines.
3. Proceed to the wolf camp in the left wall past Tawro cave. (Vah Kerrah Remains) Get a feel for where it is.
4. Continue to the back wall and aggroe 3 or 4 Shak Dathors w/ your "throw pebble" skill.
5. Double back to the Vah Kerrah Remains Camp.
6. Run in circles while the wolves kill all the shaks. As long as you do 1 point of damage you get all of the exp and Loot.

This is an amazing way of camping Dathor Great Hammers. I got about 20 of them by the time i was 50. It takes alot of practice to learn how to avoid the see invis skeletons and everything. An easy way is to always follow the wall way up as high as u can go.

Another Tip: The giant earth elementals and Rumblecrush will be attacked by these wolves. A clever mage can solo rumblecrush with this method.

he will aggroe the invulnerable skeleton and build up enough aggroe after a while that he will stick to it and mage pets dont pull aggroe toward yourself.

this bug has been around since luclin launched. and i havnt told a soul since.

This is not worth an emergency patch, but it will be fixed I am sure.
Though given Sony's efficiency I give it a month or two. :)

I remember when people used to do something similar in Plane of Tactics pit it took a while for Sony to wise up.

the pit of tactics one is completely different. this one requires no charming, no spells to be cast from mob to mob right after charm breaks or anything. just straight up these mobs kill, u do 1 pt of damage you get exp.

Having trouble even getting past the see invis in ME at the umbral tunnel... any tricks?

Also, turns out this is fairly useless to classes that can't use Throw Stone as, if you're a lower level caster as i'm trying it with (30 wizard), you can't do ANY damage to it so you get no experience.

Unless someone has an idea where I can do damage to something 25 levels higher than myself.

i did it on a bard most recently, at 30 i had to pull and get lucky with a melee hit while it was fighting the wolf. if you can single them w/o anything else chasing you then you can time your attack right after they hit the wolf and u get a brief opportunity to try.. its difficult as caster classes though.

also, with the mobs at the UP zone.. two ways to get in, both risky, 1 go in range just enough to aggroe them with a spell and run in a large circle away and back into the UP zone. stay out of casting range.
Second, walk up to the top of the cave opening, drop down and run like hell.

ps. load MQ2rezzy. you will thank yourself for it.

Would I be better off using this method, or powerleveling my bard in CoM with a 73 necro.

I have been shrouding with my 36 bard to a 35 elemental that can throw stone, and it seems when I am in shroud form I take quite an exp hit but I am not posative on this...

Any thoughts?

Am I missing something?

UMBRAL PLAINS

I went to this zone and can't find any wolf or any umbral toilers.

They are not even listed on allah for this zone. Am I in the wrong area?

Umbral Toilers are near the undead houses. the ones that drop the Elysian Armor. the wolves arent named "wolves" just look for Vah Kerrath Remains, its easy to find, along the wall.

here is a map.. crude.. but youll get the picture
my.php

It's because they aren't called Umbral Toilers, they are called Shak Dathor or some such.

oh god, mistake on my part =/ sorry im thinking of maidens eye. they are the same exact model!

the wolves have "guardian " in their name. I went there with a lvl 4 mage last night and only died once. Im lvl 19 after about an hour. Hardest part is finding a close by Shak Dathor.

If you are a pet class just send the pet. You dont get full exp but you get majority.

This didn't seem too useful for me. 35 bard tried this and died trying to pull the Shak guys....

All of that other stuff sees invis so how do you pull the Shak guys without getting aggro and dieing?

as for the bard, try any single target song, just 1 pulse would be all thats needed.

I shrouded and am using throw stone so it's not a problem pulling.

Problem is getting to them and finding enough without catching aggro... That place is crawling with baddies..

Maybe I had a bad run I will try some time later.

Tried this out on my 51 warrior. Was an easy 9 AA's for a about 3 hours of work. I'll believe the 20 or so DGH's if I even see 1 SDW spawn though.. lol

i get 1 SDW for every 40 or so shak dathors. and a helm drops lie 5 or 6 times for every war hammer.

anyway you cant complain 3 AA's an hour at 51 solo as a warrior cant be bad ;)

ps if u box 2 chars one a high lvl.. for instance i had a lowbie caster i was plvling, so i shrouded, stood up on the wall and pulled w/ a 70 bard. could cream the shit out of them and keep the lowbie completely safe.

It's great XP. Alas by warrior is on my same account as bard. So that X's out the best pull possible... I can try with a cleric on the other account, but it would be just as effective as doing it solo with the warrior.
What I am going is just rounding up as many mobs as I can (living or otherwise) and getting as large of a train as I can the zigzagging back to the spirits, there is usually 50 mobs total per pull. Once all the Shaks are dead scout one more time to see if I missed any, if I did I round them up again with that trrain still on me. If I got them all first pull I just train the remaing back to ME and zone back in giving adequate time for respawns.
At first I died a lot, lost about ~ 15% XP. The key at these low levels and large pulls is not to look back making sure you got the pull.

There is better XP to be made PL'ing a warrior I'll admit, but since I do not have a ES, I want that hammer. Been trying to farm it with my main for ages with no luck. The kill ratio on this is close to the same as my main toons, but they get very little XP, so I'll be doing it with the warrior in the mean time to soak in mass XP :)

On the off note, I tried it with fabled j-boots on a real low level alt (7). Even constantly sow'ed, he cant out run the assasins. So I figure this would be something to try once you reach level 20 or higher only if you are interested in the hammer.

massive stone guardian - 1
a guardian spirit - 0

HEH... I pulled the whole earth duders to the wolves to see whatd happen.. yep they got pwnt was funny till they killed my Lowbie I was tryna PL off it :o

had 1 Warlord spawn in 2 hours of killing (And i mean serious fast clearing)

no Hammer :(

Just an idea. Do think this will work in devastation? havent tried it but same type of idea.

On a side note i loved pulling the whole zone and haveing the factions fight lol

Woundering .. Could this be used in a GD with the giants and wolfs? You know near the ZI of Thurgadin. Havnt been on EQ for coulple weeks so cant test.

Does the UP still work? Im restarting all fresh and think this would be a quick way to lvl

This still works, I did it today with my 35 monk, 5.5% exp per kill, wasn't that difficult, got a quick half a level. Had a few scary moments though, the rest of the mobs agro when you pull a Dath so you need to either FD, Fade, or zone to clear agro eventually, or be very careful how you pull.

btw dont let the assassins (the robe duders) touch you or get too close to you.. they will snare you and snare for the newb PLee means death less you are fortunate to have FD work

Did it with a level 3 rogue, just bought some throwing knives and sow potions. Amazing, thanks for the tip.

By the way, I can confirm that you don't need to do any damage to them to get exp. I throw one knife and miss and that's good enough. So if you are a low level and buying throwing items, you don't have to waste them trying to get a point of damage.

Not fastest enough exp on a 46ish level character, by then just chain killing things solo if you're twinked with DS potions is the same exp....albeit a bit more repetitive though.

Fun to run around with so many mobs chasing you in UP however.
