So we all know Al'Kabor is stuck in PoP and now its FREE! Well google EQMac 7z and you will find the "hacked" windows client for Al'Kabor. Only a couple things don't work on it, mainly the bazaar which no one uses anyhow. Its freaking awesome!

For those incredibly lazy here is the google search. (P.S. Didn't link torrent or any pirated software as its against forum rules.)

wow too cool, I am going to have to check it out. Is it well populated?

Yup, its seen a huge population boom since it went free to play and also this client surfaced. The client originated from a user on the Fires of Heaven forums. Hobart EQ Macs lead developer at SoE also has a Windows based client that he connects to Al'kabor. I'll keep seeding the download if you guys want.

Teichou there are definitely some safe and working torrents out there as well as pretty detailed instructions for set up. Feel free to PM me if you're interested.

There are some small downsides to playing from PC (cant use bazaar search) but the server is a blast for those nostalgic for an older era of EQ. Population is not HUGE but is growing every day--have been enjoying it quite a bit myself.

Sleeper's Tomb was reset this evening by the developer (Hobart) who continues to maintain (as best he can) Al`Kabor. He also said that the PC client will inadvertently break in the future, not because he wants it to, but because of updates to the client.

If anyone knows how to contact Secrets, I encourage you to do so and see if he's up to the challenge of updating his client.

Secrets openly regrets leaking her hack to the public, and only did so because SOE announced it would be closing eqmac down. I doubt she does it again.

Her feelings toward it might change if she learned that the developer who maintains EQMac, Hobart, doesn't seem to oppose it, maybe?

I think Secrets is well aware of Hobart's stance (she's still active in eqmac to some extent), but also respects the wishes of the community. Hobart doesn't approve of it necessarily either, otherwise he would have released his own launcher for PC (It is well known that he connects to eqmac via PC). Though he probably can't officially approve of it since that would ostensibly lose SOE some money. Hobart really listens to his eqmac community and the general consensus seems to be that the PC client is a blight on eqmac and can only be used for evil or cause horrible repercussions on the tight-knit community.

That being said, I'm sure there will be PC clients for eqmac in the future if the security hole allowing this one to work gets closed. There's always a way. Personally, I started playing on a mac because I got hooked on xcode...

Yeah think I will just build a hackintosh - save any dramas on waiting for a new PC version to be patched.

I guess this kind of closes the door on building a compile for the PC eqmac then.

If Hobart's stance was anything but supportive, he would purposefully break the PC hack. However, he took a rough poll re: who uses the hack to play and I'm assuming an overwhelming number of members responded.

EQMac had virtually no population until the PC hack went live, and thusfar, the only members to have been banned that I'm aware of were Mac users.

It's not the general consensus that PC hack is a blight, HOWEVER, a certain few individuals feel it is. That said, anytime you increase the population, you're increasing the chances of trash. As always, with the good come the bad. Most agree, though, that the PC hack has done more good than bad. And you'll always have the extremist or Mac purist or "elderly" who openly opposes it, but they aren't the majority.

Which lends to the argument if we offered an MQ2 compile for the PC EQMac it would probably destroy the server by overpopulating it with asshats just like it did on the Progression servers which led to the Hack Detections SOE implemented with the release of VOA.

Playing on Al'Kabor with a PC client is not permitted. I'm not going to support it unless asked to by management. I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm in the server, however, I recommend playing one of the progression servers on the main PC Client. They are fun, I've played them personally. They are probably about 80% of the classic feel as Al'Kabor.

This is Hobart's current stance on Everquest Mac Forum.

He also mentioned previously that EQMac PC Client will not be working, unintentionally due to the updates...
