DoN Tradeskill Quest Bug

Not sure how much use this will be to anyone, but I thought it interesting nonethe less.
There's a few missions/quests about that require you to kill xx denizens of xx zone. For example, one of the DON cultural quests called Scouring the Isles requires you to kill 120 denizens of Thundercrest. This may take some time unless you go over to Ocean of Tears and kill the goblins on goblin isle (isle directly opposite the port in dock). Killing these dudes updates the quest for some reason. Also, as these guys spawn faster than rabbits on a carrot farm, 120 kills can be done with very quick. Dumb SOE must have used some bad code here or something. Would be interesting to see if this error exists in any other quests.
Anyway, this is the first bug I've ever found by myself so there :p

Sounds like the quest for the DoN Cultural Tradeskills. If this works it would make the lives of people making that armor somewhat easier, but not all that useful for many else. IIRC there is no exp, crystals, or plat for the quest. But if it is some other quest, or works with something else might be more interesting.

It is for the DON cultural tradeskills quest, and the comments minen made were correct. Having said that, this error may occur within other quests.

Do you still need to loot the 80 claws in Thundercrest though? Or whatever your particular quest might be.

I would say that is part of another update to the quest.

but the 120 kills thing is interesting. that was a quite a pain to do. taking time away from raiding =)

Well I am sure that it would exist in other areas as well. I have allready found that there are diffrent tasks with the the same name that are for diffrent levels and have slightly diffrent requirements dependent on level. Of course this interferes a little bit with advtasking but I am sure if they have failed to make Unique tasks then the flags can be kicked off by other occurances for example maybe the 80 claws in Thundercrest could be picked up off a diffrent mob that drops claws? Just a thought. Purely hypothetical speculation but I think the hypothosis is valid.

this is a pure guess.....
but isnt it possible that say you have to kill 20 goblins in say thundercrest.... couldnt you kill 20 goblins in another zone and still get credit as long as they have the same names?
or does it still have to be a DoN zone or maybe like Learningcurve said if you have to loot say 20 drake claws... would it be possible that you could loot 20 a drake claws from somwhere else? just a thought...... but it would be worth it if you could find a standing glitch for collection quests

id imagine. its like farming orc scalps in crushbone(this is way old school mind you) and turning them in in HPH. the lvl 10 mobs were easier to kill then the lvl 20 ones and you could get your faction maxed lol. im to old...

Well, there's only 1 or 2 Goblins in Thundercrest, and they don't have the same name as the ones in OOT. What I think it is, is that many mobs in Thundercrest are 'An Isle xxxx'. The goblins in OOT are 'An Isle Goblin xxxxxx'. So, it must be the 'An Isle' part that it's picking up.

And for the ultra-lazy people who dont want to run around the isle for 30-45 mins, if you have a pet you can stand in the middle of the isle and use something like this:

in the case of the dark elf GM quest i get updates for killing any lavaspinner spiders... but i still have to loot the silks in the specific instanced zone only. so while its true that i get quest updates if i kill spiders in lavastorm, but since i still have to get an instance and loot the drops anyways it becomes moot.

well if you had to kill 200 and only loot like 10 could be easier to get your 200 off a lowbie mob, and if there is not a loot cycle involved , hey your golden

Say you had to loot 80 silks. You get the mission and go to the zone. Then do something like the 69.1 mission. Give the Eye 4 silks, kill, loot, rinse repeat. Would that work?

No, they nerfed that very shortly after DoN came out.

I have done this on both my main toons. I have gotten the tradeskill tasks then did DoN missions for creator/blackwing. I loot for mission then split afterwards, so all the drake claws needed for task I loot updates my task. However, I havent found a way to kill the 80 stillmoon creatures without actually killing junk in stillmoon unless Im doing a mission with "stillmoon" creatures in it.

What does this command in your code do besides target the next npc:

Squelch just keeps it from reporting to the mq window everytime it tries to target. Its not absolutely necessary to use, just cuts down a lot of spam when it doesnt find a mob to target.
 
I tried the Eye of Zomm thing for the loot 80 xxxx part and it did not work. I had to actually be in the proper instance and loot the item from one of the zone mobs to get the quest to update.

However, you can shroud down to make the avg party level lower making the mobs much easier to kill quickly. I did that for a few of my DON tradeskill quest sessions :)
