Had a GM chilling near me when I was running MQ just today... pretty sure it's due to the fact I used the map, and was getting nameds. They may have a way to detect it without you using any add ons, etc!

What did the Gm do ?
Pretty sure if your not using any active hacks ie warp etc that MQ can not be detected.
Should have taken a screeny not seen a GM for literally years ).

Nah. Had nothing to do with MQ unless you were using active hacks or doing something obvious and got reported.

We've been through this argument many times, but the basics is simple. As long as you are not using any plugins that send information to sony's servers then the GM's and other players will not be able to know you are running MQ2. This is because of the memory check detours as well as many of the other detours that are in the basic MQ2 build. Without these detours not only would they know if you were running MQ2, but EQ2 would crap out on you because certain memory spaces have been or are being changed.
Without running active plugins, no there is no real way for a GM to know if you are running MQ2.

I have noticed a few more guides on recently and a GM-Admin hanging around alot. I have stopped using all active hacks because I have seen the GM-Admin in the same zone as me twice now since Monday March 16, Last time was in Steppes when I saw him again last night. GM-Admin: Name is Sepki 80 Enchanter (Gnome) The only thing I really been using is the autopuller mac and I am always sitting right at the computer so when I see someone enter the zone I endmac and take over. The hud I use lets me see how many are in the zone, how many adds I have. Just be carefull because they are showing up, at least on my server, lately.

Fact is, there is always a risk, however, if they are detecting anything specific, it could be through mobkill algorythms. Very simple concept, think they used it back when advghost was active. Basically, check what mobs have been downed... and if say, if named mobs are the only ones in a specific zone to be targeted, then why not check it up eh? All they would have to do is add a separate program to sniff out mob deaths, if thy dont have a log already builtinto the server.

either way, i have had MQ up TALKING to a gm standing next to him, dancing, running around, and nothing. If you are doing anything, think about the socio-game side of things instead of the play-game side of things. Remember, most of the people that have been banned using this program were ratted out, not caught... unless they are just... well...

"LETS GET RETARDED!!! LETS GET RETARDED IN HERE!!!!"

you get my point. no flamage, just general idiocy on the users part. If you cover all your bases, you should be fine.

Mobkill algorithm's don't work though, especially if you have a bard or monk puller, they can pull everything but the named, run them around till the group kills the named, let them evac however they want then fade/fd.

There was a "GM facts" post at one time, I can't seem to find it now but several good points were stated there about what a GM is capable of seeing and doing to catch MQ2ers.

A GM can be in the zone and totally invisible to you and your HUD. I had this happen one time in Seb, he came running up as a froglok looking NPC and bonked me on the head, my HUD didn't show any GM in the zone. He continued to become invisible and just did some silly stuff then gave me some rare food and drink then left. (I assume he left) I unloaded MQ just to be safe. :P

I believe this post also brought up the point that a GM could go as far as using a "Bind sight" on you and see what you see thru your screen, ie: map targets and any windows that are showing MQ spam or coding.

Bottom line: MQ2 is a "use at your own risk" program. Use common sense.

If anyone can find that post, would be great to sticky it again. Might be a couple things have changed but for the most part it was basics.

Luckily this is not the case. The map functionality and everything like it is more of a Client Side UI addon. It shows what it shows by reading incoming packets and telling you what's in them. There's no way a GM could see that by using Bind Sight. They would have to be sitting at your keyboard in order to see what you're seeing. Now, if they have you targeted and you start targeting mobs across the zone, they may start asking questions.

That may have been something I heard or it was in that post regarding what GM's could and couldn't do. Good to know tho, I've been hiding all my MQ windows and very careful what hotkeys I have displayed on my screen. That'll take some stress off me at least. :p

I concur with JMO. Bind Sight will give the GM everything the server thinks you are seeing. The client doesn't even know that you have extra blips on your map only the macroquest.exe does.

I the five years that I have been using MQ i have never heard of anyone getting banned for client side plugins, only misuse of them e.g. targeting mobs across the zone.

Being a new user of MQ2, and to further this discussion.. to prevent ban, what tips do people have? (fragmented sentence i know, stfu =P)

*cross zone targetting.
*warping (duh)
...?

one that i see and i've heard of people reporting is having an almost "ranger like sense" and have no ranger in group.
IE

named pops across zone. you run straight to it and pull it.

Lol kinda funny I watch the map and see people in fos do it all the time, cant be much more obvious without warping to it.

I like to use stick ALOT and without some kinda distance argument like /stick 16 you can be caught because everyone know how well follow works.... Normal stick puts you at guessing a distance of maybe 10, much closer than normal.

Can we let this thread die? Keeps coming back up every few weeks and we all know MQ2 passive is undetectable.
