Wasn't sure where to post this, but heads up if you have a group running on CT(or any server) in Bro Island. https://forums.station.sony.com/eq/...land-for-afk-bot-group-on-your-server.219490/ Not sure if anyone really reads the EQ forums but this is some bad press and hopefully there isn't a big enough stink made for DBG to actually do something about botting in general.

If this is the wrong place for this mods please move. I just wanted to keep it level 2.

Only a fool would BOT in Brothers Island. People pass through that zone all the time to get to the other T2 zone and to T3 zones.

I am that that fool I bot all the time on brothers island not on Cazic though. Also I don't camp any named. Its the main place I test Kiss on my high level toons. You are right though there are always like 3 groups in sight of me. They are camping named and another 2 groups usually doing progression quests.

:D

Let them train me. I box at the keys in Bro Island on a couple servers and I would lol at them for the free pulls.

I used to do some AFK boxing in BI, camping the flower and ape named with a small radius of trash, usually in late hours (12 AM - 7 AM). One night a guildy was passing through and they saw the Ape named up and that my group was standing around. They sent a tell asking if I was going to kill it. I obviously didn't respond back for like an hour or two b/c I wasn't there. After that lil incident I didn't wanna press my luck and only do the camp if I'm semi-present like cooking dinner or Netflix binging. My /tell AT goes off and I can just hop up and respond.

Being in a raid guild and in good standing in general with the population (I think lol)... not worth causing suspicion for me.

When I get off my ass and finish flagging some alts I'm gonna start working on some low profile TDS T3 camps and see how that goes.

But yeah... I wish everyone good luck and be safe if you do camp BI. I hate seeing fellow users get screwed over by people who have nothing better to do but complain. Although, given the CS reduction I see very little chance of retribution. That's speculation of course but they're so bare-bones now I don't see them putting forth much effort to quash some botters because someone made a forum post.

I am willing to bet half the cry babies that are posting on that are using programs. I have found that 90% the ones that cry wolf are the ones doing it

People are always afk botting here on my server... Sometimes groups get angry at each other and it is just a nuisance to try and exp there. I do like using it to test some macs. I was testing the new charm mac on Brothers. Like most said, just don't leave.

If you had a GM or a Guide pop into an instance they had your name an was looking for you.

I had a GM come into an instance back in 2007 and warn me.

These days DBG is quite shorthanded, they only have one or two GMs for all the servers.

I figure they will do the bannings in one big wave by some automation(going by logs or something) instead of picking us off one by one.

I'm thinking at this point if they do mass bannings they'll hurt themselves a lot more than if they just succeeded the point. By quantity of accounts....we be a lotta people.

I'd have to agree with Infadel. Also I am really surprised at the response on the forums, I really expected a bigger shit storm. Instead it's pretty much one guy being angry and the rest not really caring a whole lot.

If you get player reported you will probably get banned if a GM/Guide witnesses it. I've been banned 3 times and 2 were from player reports, the other I was afk macro warp killing (not the brightest thing to do, but man is the exp great cutting out that whole pulling thing...) These days no one really uses active hacks and I really don't thing DBG cares too much about the MQ2 scene as long as the community doesn't make a stink about it.

I bet it was years ago though right?

folks are getting sloppy, if you bring attention and enough folks complain they have to do something. if you stay low key and act like they could be watching at any moment you will usually be fine. afk farming in newest expansion usually was a seriously dumb move anyways.
if you are afk why worry about latest expac its not like you cant get exp in older less traveled zones where less a chance to piss folks off.

This is from the EQ Forum referenced above.

There are botters on Xegony. I watched for quite some time over the course of a few days. Their tank has a behavior that is always instantaneous, which is something that is impossible for a player to do. I observed a few things.

1) When a mob is pulled into camp, the tank will be facing one direction, and immediately flip the exact amount of degrees to face the mob, and run up to it, and immediately stop without having to correct itself. So if their tank is sitting down, facing north, and a mob comes in from the southwest, it will turn 135 degrees to the left, and run to the mob. It stops precisely where the mob is, and doesn't need to adjust itself in case you run too far. You know how if you are tanking something being pulled, game lag might display the mob running to you a certain distance away, but when you catch up to the server, it turns out you're now a couple feet behind the mob? This botting program does not account for that.

2) When adds come, the tank will again instantly turn directly towards the add to gain enough hate. The tank does not take time to turn with movement keys or mouse movement. In a fraction of a moment, it will go from facing one direction to the other.

I decided to do some more testing. I sat near their mob, and pulled myself a gorilla to kill. Once it got into its botting range, or whatever you want to call it, the entire bot group was on it. The tank, with its superhuman reaction time, grabbed my gorilla and proceeded to kill it. Once the gorilla was dead, most of its group would path back to their campfire, and sit. I tried this again, this time pulling two mobs. It would display the same behavior as I described in points 1 and 2. It is plain as day to tell the difference between a player tanking and a bot tanking - no one can face exactly the direction they want to without having to actually move your field of view with your mouse or keyboard. I can say, with 100% certainty, that this group was botting.

This particular bot group on Xegony camps at the bottom of the hill that leads up to the quest NPCs on Brother Isle. They have been there, at the exact spot, with this exact same behavior, for a few days now. Their names are:

Casten <Evolution Dawns>
Jutaisu <Smuffy's Heroes>
Beafcake <Iratus Lepus>
Acedesxx
Wishdoctah <Iratus Lepus>
Tecmmo <Iratus Lepus>

If they are still there, go and watch what a botting group looks like. I repeatedly tried to communicate with them for a few days, and they did not respond to me, or to anyone else. The only interaction you can get is if you fight a mob near them - they will take your mob, since their program thinks they pulled it.

This kind of upsets me. Either someone is not using KA or they are using an Old Version. Stealing other groups mobs was fixed in KA 8.1.3 or 4.

Vapula
Plumeria
Lezebel
Crusifex
Darleene
Lelia
All but one of these toons are <Veteran Crew>

Another group was called out on CT server in that same post as well. If these are your people or you know them... might wanna watch out.

Possible they may be using a non-RG version that doesn't have KA? If it is KA and they haven't updated then who knows.

I logged in my SK last night on Tunare to check something. He just happened to be camped in Brother's and some arse was oocing "hey why aren't you responding to tells". So obviously the idiots are out in force.

Meh, apparently my deep dark hole was not deep enough. I received some vigilante justice hah. I would recommend folks lay low for the weekend at least.

Time to work tradeskills, hehe?

Think it's just time for everyone to act like they have an ounce of sense. 24/7 AFK botting in open world heavy traffic zone with no insurance policy is just mind boggling.

Or just stay off brothers island lol

^That x100. And the other insanely obvious spots.

I saw someone (assuming a bot group based on their behaviour, 24/7 play, and knowing MQ2 somewhat) get steamrolled in CH multiple times the past few days. This was another spot specifically mentioned in the SOE/DBG forum thread. Hate to be a bitch but if you don't use any of the safeguards the community has come up with for self preservation you kindof deserve to get F'd. I rather lose 1 corpse or a camp for a few hours instead of being smacked by the hand of vigilantes but that's just me lol

Maybe I'm just more uppity about it though because I semi-AFK and sometimes really AFK-bot with my main.

Yeah last ban was 2008

Right. Nobody gets banned anymore. First they get a warning. Then, they get a warning. Then, they get a 3-5 day suspension. Then, they get a 10 day.
Unless you criticize a forum moderator and call them out for their lies. THEN they ban you from the forums.

But I saw the same thing happen in POK last night. :-)

DBG let posts with people's names stay up? They never allowed that before.

Semi-unrelated note but they *did* just ban a number of people who exploited the Station Cash bug on Test server last week. Items were on sale for 1 cent, including account wide rewards (heroics, LON junk, etc.). So, they do still do some bans but it's unrelated to the type of cheating we're talking about. I don't agree with account banning but in this case, I can see where they were coming from - people could get 100s of dollars worth of LON cards, year subs, and so on for pennies.

That thread has fallen off the first page now. I'd say another week or so and things will be back to 'normal'. I just hope this whole ordeal has instilled some sense in people that weren't using precautionary measures when doing 24/7 AFK.
