i was tinkering w/ my mage ini, as one does, and then watching him to see if he was following his ini.
at some point, his dps routine started breaking down and he was just tossing spells haphazardly. i started tinkering w/ his ini more ...
eventually, i was down to just using this:
i usually roll w/ interval to 0 but i tried this with both 0, 1, and 2. for science!
the results were the same: in long fights, where he had to cast his 'rotation' more than 5(ish) times, he'd eventually start to skip spells that were available to him. it wasn't always the same spell either, which is baffling.
also, for these tests, i commented out all his mana recovery spells, which i have in buffs and have conditions on to not cast in combat, but i commented them out just the same in case that was part of the issue. it wasn't. and a preemptive answer: his mana was never low enough to cause him to have to skip a spell.
for a final step before i came here hat in hand, i tried this and pulled a named:
it seemed to be going well. i thought to myself, is this the answer? i can make this work. on the 15th 'rotation' the mage started skipping barrage. did that for 5 'rotations' of his dps lineup but followed the rest. and then he fell apart completely, casting chaotic and spear(s) only until the mob was dead. he emoted a /grin at me at the end of the fight too. pretty sure he did, at least.
any thoughts other than the obv kill things faster? =p
